Snapper Jack’s Taco Shack

I got the crispy battered fish tacos. Oh man, these were some of the best fish tacos I have had. They have a salsa bar as well. Only downside is I thought I was getting a combo with rice and beans, but then just got chips. So, ~$ 9 for two tacos and some chips seemed a little steep. But then, they were really good. I would come back for sure.

Love the Huevos Rancheros. The Salsa Bar is great. The ice tea taste bad though, like old pipes.

Popped in for a fish taco while walking by. Taco prices were a little high for individual tacos, but the taco was very sizable and tasty. The size of the battered fish was good as well.

I’ve had my fair share of burritos; I ain’t no little dude. Just had the Cancun Burrito. Lemme tell ya, that’s one the best seafood burritos I’ve ever had! They didn’t skimp on the crabmeat or shrimp which is what you sometimes find in these joints. I rarely even order seafood burritos because they’re usually disappointing. Not this time! Recommend this place big time!

3.5 stars=Not bad, but also not that great.
Judging by the crowd inside when I entered, I was excited to try this place for the first time. Menu is pretty basic from other similar restaurants, so I selected from my top 3 things that I normally order. You place your order, then they call out your number for you to pick up at the counter…
The overall layout and décor of the restaurant is cool; very beachy, surfer and tropical. They offer indoor and outdoor seating that is dog-​friendly overlooking Downtown Ventura.
A plus for me, l is that they have a pretty decent salsa bar with different salsas ranging from mild to extra spicy. The Habanero salsa mixed with the green mild is delish!
Our food was ready within 15 minutes of ordering…
The Steak Taco Salad: The taco shell bowl this comes in does not have that much depth, so looks are totally deceiving with this one. The salad included: basic lettuce salad mix with a sour cream and avocado dollop, cheese, rice and pico salsa, plus the steak confetti pieces. The salad lacked «moisture» so be sure to get some of the Shake Sauce and salsas from the bar to spruce it up.
The Potato taco: meh. 2.8 stars. Imagine a shrimp taco with all its fixings but replace shrimp with soft potato squares. It’s something to «try» and then be done with.
The Shrimp taco (crunchy): 4 stars. This was tasty. Would I order this again? Yes. The shrimp is marinated in a cilantro-​lime flavor. Be sure to add more lime juice from the limes at the bar *wink
The Fish taco: Super-​meh. (Maybe .5 stars-​for the quality of the crunchy shell). Other than that… the battered fish is not good, it was soggy and flavorless. Ever adding multiple squeezes of fresh lime juice, the fish still lacked a lot.
For a spur the moment dinner selection, there was nothing too exciting about the food here.

Unbelievable. Great service and excellent food. Portions are quite generous too. I really like the atmosphere and cleanliness of this location.

The portions were pretty decent, but the flavors were lacking. The salsas were really not that full flavored, some were a bit watery. Hate places that have colored corn chips… there were red and green ones along with the corn colored ones. Is this just a Christmas thing?

Amazing!!! This place was so awesome inside! And the food was out of this world! I had the fish tacos, so so good! Might just be our new favorite when visiting Ventura! Five stars for Snapper Jack’s Taco Shack!

What a great place to grab a bite to eat while your walking Main Street. The crispy shell tacos is a staple must have.

Neat place. Great service and Very clean too. My wife and I split a breakfast burrito. Plenty of food and delicious. Can’t wait to come back for lunch or dinner.

We just discovered Snapper Jack’s and love it. It’s our family’s favorite spot now. We’ve only been at the one on Main St.
The food is great and portions are on the bigger side. One of my favorites are the nachos with steak. It’s always been clean and the décor is relaxed beach like. They also have a kids menu for my youngest. She always gets the quesadilla, rice, beans and chocolate milk.

The décor is cute and it has a good atmosphere but the food was not that great:/ The service was fast food acceptable.

Great lunch spot in downtown Ventura. I had a Surfer’s protein bowl; quinoa, pinto beans and grilled chicken and loved it. They have a plethora of fresh salsas; I loved the Aztec and Fruit with cilantro in particular.
Very good prices for good clean healthy food on the fly. Very, very fast service. I got my food inless than 3 minutes!

Order the chicken taco. Get it with the *crispy* shell (vital component!!!). Drizzle a bit of their «Shack Sauce» on it. BAM! There go your eyes into the back of your head. Aaaaaand you’re welcome.

Been coming here 15 years, always good, always great service… best salsa bar, and that Jack sauce so yummy!

Snapper Jacks is a great addition to downtown Ventura. When your spending the day on the beach or looking to walk the town and want something between fast food and having to spend an hour at a table then this is a great fit…
It’s not a far walk from the pier and worth it to have such great food…
You get a solid meal for a good price that will fill you up until your next craving…
So far everyone I have talked to has raved about the shrimp burritos and snapper tacos.
I love the chicken tacos with a crispy flour tortilla.
The secret shack sauce can be a meal in itself…
Worth a try, you won’t be disappointed.

The atmosphere is pretty chill here and gives off a nice surf vibe.

I like to see the fish on top so that I can gauge the value I am getting and also taste the most important part of the taco, the fish.

Love this new location downtown Ventura! It’s a fun place to go for lunch with friends :) The food was incredible. Not a bad thing to say. Will be back often!

If this location is anything like the other in Ventura we are all in for a treat, Cant wait to try it and update my review, great location so far.

This is a brand new Snapper J’s located in beautiful downtown Ventura. It’s a tiny Jack’s…but a very good Jack’s. If you’re familiar with the menu, then you know everything is awesome! If you’re a Snapper Jack’s first timer, well you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu. The salsa bar is to die for.
The new location is great! Just a few steps from my front door. This is excellent news for my tastebuds… no so good for my waistline.
