So sad they closed! Went there for the first time a day before they closed. Best torta I’ve ever had!

Warning, cash only. I tend to forget. Many rave about their burritos, but I personally love the half-order of nachos. The perfectionist in me is giddy that each nacho has an even amount of cheese and beans and for only $ 4.25 it is a deal for lunch. I cover it in verde sauce so that it’s swimming and top it with the all you can eat peppers, which I love that I can I pick out the carrots and only get peppers. I went yesterday and very tempted to go again today.

Make sure you have cash before coming here. The food is pretty good and authentic. Beef tacos and Sopes are available here. The Horchata is delicious and has free refills. Food comes out in a timely fashion and is made to order.

This place was one of my favorite places to eat when I originally moved to vernon hills, it’s the worst for me now. First off the women who takes the orders is rude. They use to accept credit cards and now it only cash– that’s fine– minus that once I placed my order went to pay she was like cash only and began to speak which she cuts me off theres there’s an ATM.(Btw the fee for the ATM is $ 2.50) i can understand cash only but put a sign up stating that and also don’t be rude about it. Secondly the food has gone down hill since the last time I’ve been there. It’s really greasy, stains your fingers, clothes exc. and the tables are always sticky. I will never be returning to el famous again. Worst experience.

Definitely not a destination restaurant. The burritos are not bad and are definitely plenty of food(but not the size of a football). I also enjoyed the nachos. I just felt like everything needed something… I’m sure I’ll be back at some point, but I’m in no rush.

El Famous Burrito has become one of my go-to taco shops. Their food is delicious, quick, and fresh. The el pastor is amazing! Bring cash or you’ll be hitting up the high fee ATM near the register. Enjoy!

I was a little annoyed at first that this place is cash only, but, if you decide to give in and bring some cash, you won’t be disappointed. There is an ATM, but i assume there’s a fee to use it. Their burritos are nothing to take lightly. They are NOT the size of a football like some comments suggest, but it’s bigger than your average burrito, they don’t skimp on the meat, and the price is good too. I couldn’t finish mine. It probably won’t reheat well since I got lettuce and sour cream on it, so I guess I’ll try a round 2 on this beast!

Fast service and good food. I enjoy their steak tacos and in the warmer months they have a nice outdoor seating area. I recommend it.

After moving from Chicago, we were in desperate search for a great, authentic Mexican restaurant, and we found it! El Famous Burrito is a perfect example of this. We ordered a torta and a chile relleno burrito. Both were excellent. Not to mention the HORCHATA. I could drink horchata for the rest of my life and be completely content. The only thing I don’t like about this place is that it’s cash only. We didn’t know this, and the sign was not as clear as it could’ve been so my husband had to run across the street to our bank ATM to avoid paying a ridiculous ATM fee. Other than that, our food was excellent and we’ve been repeat customers since then! Highly recommend this place!

This is a great place for takeout(they do have seating as well but it’s counter service). The ingredients they use are quality and authentic. The portions are huge. A often get the junior burrito the full size is literally football size. I think there food is much better than most of the sit-down table service places in the area. And more traditional than say a chipotle but equally as affordable. If you feel like eating there they do have a little patio which is a nice option in summer although not very scenic as its located in a strip mall. But hey it’s outdoor seating. I have been coming here for over 10 years and definitely need to come back again soon.

I love El Famous! I have been coming to El Famous since I was a child and my order has never changed because it’s that good! The steak tacos and steak tostadas with avocado are amazing and you can’t beat the prices… But make sure you have cash. Don’t worry, they have an ATM inside. I personally don’t believe in paying to take your own money out, so I make sure to be prepared. You can have 2 steak tacos and a steak tostada with avocado(extra charge) and a small drink for under $ 10. I have been to nicer Mexican restaurants with an extensive menu, but the taste is not there. I enjoy that El famous isn’t an over the top Mexican restaurant, because they can concentrate on food versus décor. The people working behind the counter are friendly, quick, and give generous portions. This place can’t be beat. It hits the spot every time.

As far as I’m concerned this place should be retitled El Famous Taco. Picture — freshly warmed corn tortillas holding a bouquet of savory goodness, be it pulled chicken or diced portions of flavorful steak, all topped with a layer of crispness that the lettuce and tomato deliver, these pockets of wonder are the ones to beat. The service is efficient and the cost minimal. While I’d say most people do take-out, El Famous does offer plenty of seating, despite how small the place may appear from the outside. And the space is nicely lit, regardless of the downcast shade that the tint of the windows conveys from the outside. I must say that I’m pretty ashamed that I just tried this place for the first time a few days ago despite how many times I have driven by and dismissed it. I definitely can’t wait to be back to try their football-sized burritos, their namesake!

The regular pork burrito is huge and is always good. My wife added sour cream which I don’t like. I can’t even image eating one of the football size burritos. My son always orders fires because they always make them fresh.

Really, there is no going wrong here. Everything is authentic and reasonable priced. I usually get the tacos, which are made with corn tortillas, cheese, tomato, and lettuce. I’d prefer the authentic tortilla/onions/cilantro/lime though, but still for less than $ 2, you can’t really complain. The nachos here are interesting. I got the chorizo nachos and instead of a big pile of chips/toppings, each chips was individually covered with all the toppings and then heated up. So there were like 12 — 14 chips, but it is surprisingly filling since they are really covered with a few layers of toppings. They are known for their burritos, but I haven’t tried that yet. Also, they only accept cash, which is sort of a pain to remember.

Wow, I’m impressed with the tacos and I cannot believe that I’ve lived in Vernon Hills so long without trying them! My boyfriend brought them home last week since he was too tired to cook. And, I was pleasantly surprised. I tried the chicken, pork and steak. The steak tasted the best to me and was the most flavorful. The chicken was good and I felt like the pork was kind of bland. Also, the prices are great — we got one burrito and four tacos for about $ 15. I’ve never dined in and don’t really plan on it since the look of the location does not appeal to me. If you are ever craving tacos in the VH area, try this place!
