Pastry was good but the meat on the sandwich was horrible. Roast beef fatty They should use a better product to compliment their product. Obviously Syco… try Boar’s Head

While in Vernon Hills for work, several of my coworkers choose Eloise when we have to meet over coffee, breakfast, or lunch. I’ve always enjoyed it but never reviewed it so here goes! Today for lunch I had the Chicken Pesto ciabatta and added avocado. I chose to add a cup of today’s soup, creamy potato, as well. My sandwich was decent size and featured a hefty portion of pesto(big bonus)! The chicken breast was lean, not too dry, and also good sized. I only found myself wishing the sandwich came with chips or greens but I could have added those. I do wish they offered a melty ciabatta option as that’s also could have made my meal better. My coworker ordered a basic turkey sandwich and got something with roast beef(oops) but he didn’t complain and happily ate it, or I’m quite sure they would have remade it for him. I love that their sandwiches come with a perfectly crunchy and extremely fresh pickle spear AND a mini Andes mint for returning to work with nice breath. I’m only giving four stars for the price and the whoops on the sandwich. If I could do 4.5 I would!

We stopped in about 45 mins before closing with our kids to have a late lunch. Ordered a cheese/broccoli roll for the kiddos to split and a couple of sandwiches and drinks for ourselves. Our sandwiches were just ok especially for the price. I expected more as I’ve had better for the price. The roll was microwaved so hot that I couldn’t even give it to my kids for 10 minutes while it cooled. Then I noticed my kids, who are excellent eaters and not picky at all, wouldn’t eat it after 1 bite each. So, I tasted the roll and it was awful. It was stale and seemed to be sweetened with glaze. It’s obviously listed as a savory roll, I’m not sure why it was so sweet. So, my husband went back to the counter and told the woman we didn’t like it and asked if they could make a grilled cheese. She didn’t ask why it wasn’t liked or what was wrong, simply stated«We don’t have a grill.» Ok, understandable. What’s not understandable is this: If your customer isn’t happy, can you show the slight bit of interest in why? Ask? Maybe apologize? Maybe offer a replacement for the item that clearly had two and a half bites taken from it? So, I step in and ask if they have a toaster to melt the cheese? Nope, no toaster. So I say, «alright, I’m just looking for something quick & kid-friendly» to which I receive a blank stare and she turned to look at her own menu as if to say«well that’s what I have!» I also got stares from two stone-faced women in the kitchen. Nothing. No suggestions. I notice there was PB&J and ask for that. I said can I just have a half sandwich? No reply. So I say again, «I just need one slice of bread… really small not too much on it(my kids are young and don’t eat large portions). I didn’t get a verbal response. However, I thought I got a nod but clearly did not and I paid $ 4.95 Fine. Maybe they don’t do half portions? I have no idea. Great communication. The sandwich comes out with the peanut butter spread on with so much pressure, that it thinned out the bread in the center. Then enough jelly for 6 sandwiches was poured on top(AND I got a whole sandwich). So when I picked it up, the bread split open and all the jelly came out. It’s quite comical, really, that a sandwich shop couldn’t even do PB&J right. I had to scoop out the remaining ridiculous amount of jelly and cut the sandwich into sections in order for it to be held without the bread continuing to split open. What a mess, but I didn’t want to be wasteful and ask for it to be remade. I tasted this sandwich before giving it to my kids this time. It was clearly made with the cheapest PB&J available. I really expected more for a $ 4.95 peanut butter and jelly! We get better PB&J at Potbelly and Panera. How sad. The staff didn’t greet us, never checked on us and didn’t say anything at all as we left. EVEN though my kids both said bye to the woman working at the counter. On the way out, I noticed little flies(fruit flies?) inside the pastry case where the rolls that we ordered were kept. Disgusting! This is the reason for 1 star along with the unfriendly service and barely adequate food. We will not be coming back to this sandwich shop. It was disappointing all around.

I’ve been wearing out my normal lunch spots, which makes it difficult to decide where to eat. That’s where Unilocal came in and helped me find this fine bakery with almost a perfect rating. I’m skeptical of the cinnamon rolls being the best around. We love Cinnabon, but I’m taking a couple home to try out anyway. I’ll update once we try them, but it won’t affect my 5 star rating, unless they’re gross for some reason. I also tried the Monterey Club, and it is really good! The bread is phenomenal! **update! You Unilocalers raving about these cinnamon rolls have obviously never had Cinnabon. The rolls here don’t even come close. I’m sorry. I loved the sandwich though.

I guess they have been here for 28 years. Wow can’t believe it’s my first time here. I feel like I exhausted every eatery in lake county. I do admit tho I’m not a pastry aficionado I lean towards savory. I will come back and perhaps try there lunch. Based on what I had today it was ok. I had a pecan roll that was covered in crispy pecan and a generous drizzle of honey. The dough was a little dense. I ordered a dark roast coffee it was average. Lots of employees to greet you. It was clean light and spacious.
