Been here a few times mainly to sample their canolis, although I can also vouch for many of their pastries and baked goods being top notch. No clue about the pizza, and frankly I found it somewhat odd to find pizza here, but live and let live. What I can recommend definitively are the canolis, which were very good, whereas the Canoli balls were beyond very good and straight into heavenly territory. I’ve taken to buying a few at time and freezing the others, and can also say that nibbling on one cold is also a great option(although warm and soft is still tops). Try these guys whenever you’re in the neighborhood.

Quaint and old-fashioned bread and pastry bakery. DiPaolo’s is always a great place for fresh French and Italian bread and rolls, pastries ranging from Italian specialties to standards like apple turnovers, donuts, and cookies. This is a small bakery, and there are maybe four small tables/chairs if you’d like to have a little coffee and enjoy your dessert on the spot. Traditional holiday breads and desserts are available at those times of year. DiPaolo’s also makes a limited selection of breakfast/lunch sandwiches and mini-pizzas. A nice, local-owned business that’s been at this location for decades.

Coffee cake for 80 cents! Must try. Their coffee is folgers but they price it like it’s decent coffee. Woman who works the counter could be friendlier but whatever.

If you don’t love this place than you don’t know nothing about real Italian food. This place is a gorgeous piece of the old country. I saw some other review crying about his Wall Street cake — that guy is likely the same jerk that took a bail out for messing up our economy. Here’s a fact — you want good Italian pastry, this is your place — period! I’d travel across the country to have a cannoli here, and likely I will in the near future. Don’t change a thing Di Paolo’s. Let the people who know real food come appreciate your culinary arts.

If I could give zero stars I would. To say I was disappointed with the cake I ordered recently is an understatement. The owner took the order from me in person for a cake design to represent the bull and bear of Wall Street. He assured me it would be well done. We looked at pictures together and I was promised a BRONZE colored bull and bear– a frontal view of a bull, and a bear climbing a rock made of other little cakes. He promised it would be tastefully done and I left feeling confident that the art wasn’t too complicated. The cake they sent was bright orange. The bull and bear were a maroon red/orange color. What I assume we’re supposed to be the rocks we discussed looked like deer droppings under their bloody heads. The«bear» was mistaken all evening for a wolf, a rat, and a possum. Although the taste(strawberry shortcake) was delightful, it was by far the most UNSIGHTLY fail of a cake design. People were confused. I was mortified, not to mention upset about the amount of money I paid for this embarrassment. Over $ 200. When I wrote to the owner about my disappointment, I got no response. Such a horrible, unprofessional business. All I was looking for was an acknowledgment — not a refund. Worst bakery experience EVER.

I wanted to love this place after moving to the area recently, but I’ll have to find another place to buy my cakes. I consider myself a cake snob and have high standards when it comes to cake. Unfortunately this place(and Calandra’s) just don’t cut it for me. I can’t give an honest review of their cookies or pastries because I have not tried them.

Nice bakery with your typical Italian Bread, rolls, pastries etc… very large, clean with an huge amount of selection… Not really crazy about their bread at all as it is and always has been just OK. Pastries very good. What really stands out here is their small little Pizza’s and stuffed breads. Their 7 inch individual pizzas depending on their day are really quite good and we usually take their special 6 for $ 12.00 with us to our Sunday Tailgates. Their Long stuffed breads Pepperoni, or Sausage or Spinach are also top notch and worth the trip all by themselves. All and all solid but I go for the Pizza and the stuffed breads. for rolls, breads and or pastries. there are better options in the area but NO Knocks super nice people.

The bread is ok. The small pizzas are fine. The pastries are typical. The people mean well. What bugs me most about this place is on the outside. The tangled, ripped up American flag hanging above plastic flowers stuck in dirt filled pots. How much time does it take to replace the American flag or simply take it down? to plant real flowers? The care and pride you show on the outside says a lot about the quality of your product on the inside.

I used to love stopping at this bakery while running errands in Verona. However, it appears that the bakery has changed hands(yes?). The kids from the middle school across the street may not notice the difference, but the selection and quality are not as good as before. Now, when I have a craving for cakes and/or cookies — and the time — I make the trek to Gencarelli’s in Bloomfield.

I can’t believe they received such good reviews. I will say this. I have not tried their cake so perhaps that is their speciality. I have had baked goods and they are not bad. Not the best, but not bad. The reason for the poor review is we decided for some strange reason to have omlette’s, eggs, and coffee here. First off the women behind the counter was annoyed that we even decided to grace her with our presence and ask questions such as does it come with toast and what type of cheese do you have. I felt like i was supposed to eat whatever was back there. About 10 – 15 minutes into the wait for the omlette i was told they were out of america, i then asked for chedder which there was none of and was told it was mozzarella. i received an unevenly cooked omlette that was still raw in spots but clearly dried out in others. there was a little cheese on the inside which made the texture weird, none on top. DRY, DRY, DRY. The coffee was too terrible to make the dry omlette better. My husbands egg sandwich came with no cheese but the women behind the counter told us not to worry he didn’t charge us for cheese. i just ignored it, since it was 20 minutes earlier we paid the bill. Bottom line this place is a bakery. Not a short order deli and they should remain that way. The eggs were terrible. If you want eggs go to the place on pompton ave by kings. They are delicous and come with home fries. They are evenly cooked and take a fraction of the time. Also they are cheper. As for the baked goods. If you have ever been to arthur avenue in the bronx or staten island, do not bother you taste buds for baked goods have been spoiled and this will be just alright to you.

If there were Zero stars I’d give it to them. I hate giving poor reviews and usually do my best to not to because you can be effecting someones livelihood but to sum this up, awful. The pizza that was so good last month couldn’t have been worse. For that big focaccia style pie they say it takes an hour. We picked up the pizza on time and it felt cold but person behind said it was fine. My fault we trusted her. Anyway, bring it home and it looked like a warm Ellio’s frozen pizzas with the cheese melted. The crust seemed barely cooked, the sauce was cold and acidic tasting usually found in under cooked sauce. The only thing that looked remotely hot was melted cheese. Before we ate it we had to put it back in the oven to heat and crisp it up. How can a pizza take an hour and then when you take it out of the box the bottom is soft. I have had my reservations about this place for years. Only went there in an emergency. When I heard about the new pizza they made we gave it try and the first time it was good. The other day, well they should really be embarrassed about what they served. I thought about calling but figured it’s not in my rotation anyway so why bother. It’ll be another 15 years before we go back.

I love the service, and the yummy treats, I had a variety of good from there today, very delicious indeed. Very friendly. Will be going back again soon for the apricot jelly roll things, or the canoli or the REAL scones. *swooN*

they a GREAT canoli birthday cake. However they do not make fondant cakes, and if u ask for one they may tell u they have it, it is not the same thing! there idea of a fondant cake is to cover the cake with a glazed icing similar to what u would get ontop of a pastry. The bakery is one of the few in the area that serve actual food with lunch and dinner specials available, as well as breakfast. excellent italian bread! Not too hard and not too soft or flakey. I have gotten 7 birthday-like cakes there in the past year and 6 of 7 where perfect! another small negative is they do not accept any credit cards, but they are located within just a few steps of a wachovia, chase, investors, and community bank!

WIth the Easter holiday coming up, Di Paolo is already cranking out holiday treats, sush as taralli and Easter pie. Today, I ate a mozzarella en carozza sandwich, made on egg-dipped pane casareccio bread with their made-fresh-daily homemade mozzarella, and stuffed with sausage, onions, and peppers. It felt a little leaden in my stomach afterwards, but tasted really good on the way down. The people that runs this bakery are always very friendly and helpful, and prices are reasonable. My only knock, and it is a minor one, is that the Jewish-style rugalach and hamantaschen aren’t too good. Stick with the Italian specialties here.
