There were some high points-salad dressing was fantastic, calamari pretty good and tempura was delicious. The worm/caterpillar in my tempura udon wasn’t a deal breaker even. It was how it was handled that was awkward. At that point I would have preferred no replacement. Everyone was done whe mine came out.

It was ok. I love sushi and a lot of the time, price will dictate quality. The sushi was fine but for the price, it did not add up. I sat at the sushi bar and was bothered by the smell and cleanliness of the entrance going into the kitchen. Could use a little elbow grease to get it cleaned up. Not sure I would go back. I’ll try other places first.

This is my favorite sushi places in Binghamton. It’s actually good and very fresh. They’re not stingy with portions either. I love it! If Binghamton did not have Fuji San, I would never eat sushi here. Definitely go try it out! I would recommend the any of the sashimi or sushi lunches or dinners, the fried rice is pretty good, the bento boxes as well! I’ve never had the hibachi though but the sushi is excellent for Binghamton!

Ordered a sashimi special, and two rolls. The rolls were decent. The rice was well flavored, and the rolls were well made. The sashimi left some things to be desired. There was only 4 types of fish included. Two were good, two were lacking. For the high price I would have expected a lot better $ 42 for this dinner.

It’s not often that I write reviews on Unilocal, only unless a place is truly amazing, or if the place is absolutely horrible. In this case, the food was amazing. I didn’t order much; I ordered the Philadelphia roll, eel avocado roll, and spicy crunchy yellowtail roll, all of which were remarkable. The meat to rice ratio was absolutely perfect and the fish was very fresh. I ordered for delivery and the service was much quicker than expected. Great job and reasonably priced for the quality!

after having two bad sushi experiences in the area, i came to fuji san with realistic expectations… and they were pleasantly met! the fish was good quality and the rolls were just the right size. The service was quick, with lots of water and tea refills. my friends had the hibachi entrees and were as equally pleased with their meals. ambience is nothing to write home about, BUT they do have mints at the door(always a ++++ in my book)… a good pick for sushi in the area!

We never got a chance to eat here last night. We had reservations and waited for about 40 minutes for the hibachi. There were other reservations waiting as well. We really wanted to go to Kampai, but they were full. So we decided to try this place. Well… the hostess/server was beyond rude. She was very short with respect to how she treated all of the customers that were waiting for the hibachi. Now, I understand having a bad day… I understand it being super busy… but there was absolutely no reason for this person to be just out and out rude. Miss Congeniality award winner she was not!!! As I mentioned before… never got to eat here because after she was rude to my mother in law… it was a wrap. She told us it was going to be another hour after our reservation. Don’t waste your time… go to Kampai… NOSTARSFORTHEREVIEW… but I have to give it a one star rating. We even told the hotel clerk to not refer guests to that restaurant.

I’ve only done take out so I can’t review the restaurant itself. I should have known that the sushi wasn’t going to be good but honestly it was vile. Only ordering cooked food if I order from here again.

One of our go to places for good hibachi. The atmosphere isn’t the greatest but the quality of food makes up for it. Highly recommended especially for lunch to get some decent prices.

While the steak, salad, and soup were amazing, the shrimp, chicken, and vegis were rubbery, at best. The spicy tuna crunch was surprisingly good for the location. And the hibachi sauces were missing the typical robust ginger flavor I’m used to. It’s good… just not amazing! That’s my opinion as a schmo from DC.

Mediocre Japanese is the best way to describe our experience in March at this restaurant. Three of us stopped by for a quick work meal and had sushi and the Tempura Udon. The service was a little disjointed and slow. I received my order prior to the other people getting their sushi. The Udon was hot and had a nice flavor and the tempura was not too greasy. The others said the sushi was good..

Came for lunch, ordered the sashimi. Portions were good and fish seemed fresh. Service was a bit slow and the place was completely empty. Worth stopping in if you area in the area.

Very mediocre quality food. Ordered take out including chicken fried rice with miso soup and chicken hibachi with onion soup. We were told ten minutes but ended up getting there about twenty minutes later. Good thing we didn’t rush because our food wasn’t ready. The total came to $ 36. What the? Very very expensive for the quality and quantity. After waiting a little while we were told they were out of onion soup. Why someone didn’t tell us that when we called in the order a half hour before I don’t know, but, no worries, miso soup was fine by me. The chicken fried rice was salty which my sister liked she even added spicy mayo. Not for me. My chicken hibachi was very salty and just okay. The excess thick goopy sauce that remained in the container once I finished eating the contents grossed me out. The soup was just broth with a teeny piece of seaweed. The food didn’t leave me saying can’t wait to go back, but it also didn’t scream yuck. It was just bleh and could have been made better.

I love it here. The restaurant changed hands some time ago, so I do miss the folks that ran the place before. The prices have incased since and the amount of food you get has decreased! The hibachi is fun and the chef lets you know all of the ingredients he’s using as he adds it to the hibachi. I enjoy the Sashimi and Sushi, I have always had fresh fish and never been disappointed with order. I will return, for dinner and Saki

Pros: Clean restaurant, friendly staff, open for lunch. Cons: I’ve been three times — one was a decent experience and the other two were not great. The nori on the sushi was chewy and difficult to eat, the salmon in the Philly Roll tasted old. I really wanted to like this restaurant, but I guess it wasn’t meant to be!

Fuji san is a highly over-priced, Chinese-owned and operated Japanese-American place. Fish is frozen so it’s relatively«fresh» but not really… it doesn’t smell like the sea, it smells like… nothing…til it goes off. The hot food is solid though, and this place is probably the number one«comfort food splurge» I can remember from my two year hell that was BU on-campus housing. It wasn’t curry ramen selected off of a vending machine(I love you, Tokyo) but i mean it’s not Industrial Sodexho Meat. Binghamton has limited options, you need to learn to settle… .And yo, a thirty dollar meal+tax/tip is a big deal when your average daily budget is about $ 2.40…

Everyone reviewing this restaurant is probably a Binghamton University student/affiliate or a friend of one, because it seemed to be one of very few Japanese choices in the [rather social-scenically and culinarily challenged] collegetown. The green tea tempura fried ice cream.

In my years of eating at Fuji San — and ordering out from them as well — I have never been let down. No, not the most authentic or best in the world, but it gets the job done. Sushi rolls are more than adequate and I loved the seafood udon soup lunch special. I admit, the sashimi offerings are probably not stellar. You’ll want to stick to very common and«safe» fish choices. Service has always been decent. I’ve gone with groups and just BF. Delivery is prompt and reliable — an absolute godsend when you’re a BU student so sick of dining hall food or crappy chain restaurants that you want to hurl yourself face first into the Susquehanna. I agree that they have gotten a bit overpriced in the past couple of years, Audrey K.
