I drove 40 miles to check this restaurant out because a friend suggested it because I liked Peking Duck. Normally I would go to Falls Church and Peking Gourmet Restuarant but was willing to try a new place. Very Very disappointed. Go to Peking Gourmet instead.

Great Peking duck and dishes. Cheaper than Peking Gourmet Inn and no wait. I live right here in Tyson’s and this is probably the best Chinese food close by.

Come for the Peking duck, stay for the other dishes! Located in a strip mall in Tyson’s Corner, China Wok may not look like much from the outside and their interiors may be a bit dated, but they do the best Peking duck in the DC area and all their other dishes are always delicious and on point. Our family and friends always celebrate here for get togethers and special occasions. We just finished a Chinese New Years dinner here, and I’m walking out now super satisfied and content. I’m also the lucky one who gets to go home with all the delicious leftovers!

My first time having legit Peking duck! You can order half or full, but between 6 people we devoured two full ducks! They(i.e. an older gentleman) carve the duck right in front of you and you can take the bones home to make soup out of it if that is the desire of your heart. Meat is really juicy and tender! Really the best duck I’ve had! We also got fish fillet with soy sauce, pan fried noodles and green veggies with garlic. They were all very delicious! Their menu is under the glass part of every table and it’s pretty simple/short.

My family and I have been coming to China Wok for many years now, and it’s always our go-to restaurant for my first night home whenever I visit! Call ahead to make a reservation and pre-order your duck – it can get really busy in here due to recent press coverage in the area. It looks like a little hole in the wall but the dishes are all delicious and the portions are quite generous. Compared to some cheaper take out restaurants in the area, the dishes are a little pricey($ 10-$ 15 a dish is normal).

Went here maybe a year ago to try the Peking Duck since I’m a frequent guest at Peking Gourmet, & hearing the chef cooks here, I had to try. First time(about a year ago) was not bad. Second time I came, today, it was way off. They apparently don’t carve the duck at the table anymore & the portion looks kind of smaller than the usual. The duck didn’t taste great either. I’ll just be going to the original place from now on. Can’t comment on the other food since I didn’t try it out.

Came home for the holidays and found another place in the area for peking duck! I used to go to Peking Gourmet, but that place is always SO crowded and impossible without a reservation. The peking duck at China Wok is a bit cheaper at $ 35/duck(vs. $ 40 at PG) and worth every penny! For our group of 7, we got 2 ducks and 2 veggie dishes. Loved watching the old man in the Nationals cap slice up our ducks. The duck skin was super crispy and everything tasted delicious wrapped up in the pancakes smothered with hoisin sauce. Highly recommend for peking duck, but for other Chinese dishes, there are better options in the area.

New to the area and this place deserves this wonderful 1 star for its craptastic tasting overpriced food. Please don’t waste your time just because they deliver. Go out and drive to a place in Annandale or Falls Church area. I will never spend another $ 56 for rice, chicken, and dumplings.

I had heard about their peking duck and always wanted to try it. This day we ordered Kung Pao chicken and the whole duck. The waitress tried to push the fried rice but we didn’t take it. The chicken had a wierd aftertaste and we called her to say we didn’t like it. «Nobody else complained» said she. «But i didn’t like it» i said«can i order something else?». «Everybody likes it. You want the fried rice?» she said talking away the chicken reluctantly. I had alway put some in my kid’s plate by then. And ordered the beef schechuan. She said it’s more money grudgingly. She came back with the beef and took away the plate while my kid was eating it. My kid had this to say. «I did not like when a person who worked at this place took away my food.» She was sad She had to start all over again with the new dish. The duck howeverwas decent. The table side carving was a good touch to the service though with minimal small talk and no smiles. I liked the crunchy skin but got tired of it aftera while. The meat itself was good and went well with the scallions and the sauce. I wish the sauce were a little more tangy for the rich meat. Giving them a poor tip for the lip service got me more lip service. Don’t think i would go back anytime soon and look for peking duck else where.

I must have passed this place at least a dozen times when going to TJ Max or DSW and I’ve never really given it more than a passing glance except to stereotype that a place named China Wok couldn’t possibly have anything authentic. That’s when the stereotype ends and the unexpected begins. My sister mentioned that she’d heard all these good things about China Wok’s peking duck. Frankly, I was a bit incredulous but we enlisted our folks to come along to try it. The restaurant is somewhat small, with about a dozen tables, most of which can only seat 4 people and even then, there’s not a ton of elbow room. The peking duck comes out browned with the meat tender and the skin perfectly crispy. Our waitress told us the ducks are 6 pounds prior to cooking. Wrap the meat and a piece of crispy duck skin in a Chinese pancake along with some scallions and plum sauce and you enter food heaven. The ducks all seem pretty fresh, likely because of the high turnover. At least 7 other groups also ordered duck while we were there. The famous Peking Duck chef and restaurant co-owner wheels out the duck on a little cart and expertly carves it in front of you. The four of us had no difficulty scarfing down most of a whole duck but if you’re just a group of two, a half duck might make more sense. The other dishes weren’t quite as impressive. The portion sizes are a tad small and our tofu and eggplant dish, while piping hot and flavorful, was mostly eggplant. We actually came back the next day with more family and that duck disappointed, it was pink and not fully cooked. At least the chef didn’t deny that, he clearly noticed it right away when carving the duck. He had a waitress go re-roast the duck but she came back so quickly that I think it’s more likely it was microwaved. It still tasted great but we were slightly chagrined by all that. The salted fish and chicken dish we ordered was really flavorful except — hey, where was the salted fish? The dish certainly tasted of salted fish but we had trouble actually finding it in the dish. The garlic pork chops were also really good, though my mom’s piece was slightly on the dry side. We also got the pork with tofu wrapper, which was good but be aware that the pork is pork belly, so it’s pretty fatty. I’ll take one point off because the seating is a bit cramped and because of the undercooked duck the second time around but overall, our experience here was good and it was great to have Peking Duck again after not having it in years. The other dishes weren’t bad, a little on the small side but still reasonably priced and very flavorful.

Food is not bad. A good place to try Cantonese style Chinese dishes. Not ideal for Sichuan Spicy experience though. Ask for authentic menus if you want to try food not offered on the main menu. Staff is nice and friendly. Service is very quick. And the price is reasonable. The store is bit small though with limited tables. Probably difficult to serve a big group. Overall, I would recommend the restaurant if you want to grab a quick bite or order take out.

So this place was popping evidentally. We ventured in for dinner during our mini stay-cation in the area and were seated in a very small dining room. We ordered and I swear our food came out in 5 minutes. My daughter ordered orange chicken, the guy ordered General Tso’s chicken and I ordered chicken and broccoli. I know, a lot of chicken. However, we all went with our favorites for a place we’ve never been before. The food was pretty good. The service was very good! The ladies who were on duty didn’t let our glasses get empty at all. I enjoyed my food and there was great service. As I stated, people were coming in requesting reservations for hours in advance. Clearly, this place is known and I didn’t have any complaints myself!

China Wok offers an extensive menu, with good food at great prices. I’ve been here on several occasions while I was in the area and for the most part, my experiences have been ok. There is a hispanic woman who offers excellent service while serving on the restaurant floor. However, I’m not too keen on the owners/mangers who are a bit much for me. To give an example, out of the blue, I had the manager reiterate to not forget the tip. That was just downright rude. First, I never forget to tip, but for someone to damn near stand over me while I signed my credit card receipt I DIDNOTLIKE. Which is why I didn’t leave a tip on my statement, instead I gave a nice tip in cash to the hispanic woman who was doing all the work. Also, the last few times I rolled by, the restaurant was closed. Don’t know what it was all about, but I’m guessing it had to be major in order to be closed on regular business days. That concludes my review of China Wok.

4 stars for the food(especially the Peking Duck which was nicely shaved and the skin was perfectly crispy) and 2.5 stars for the service which is highly inconsistent — I’ve had great dinner service once before, but this last time, the waitress was not as friendly — that yelling in Chinese was actually as it sounded and not mere Chinese folks talking with excitement in a friendly manner! :) The restaurant location is in a strip mall and the inside doesn’t have much more appeal to it. While it’s not a place you would go to for the ambiance, I think currently, it’s one of the better Chinese restaurants for it’s more authentic dishes.

Decent Sichuan style food, especially when compared to the other options in the area. Service is friendly and value is ok. It’s located in the same strip mall as tjmaxx. Came here on a snow saturday night to pick up carryout. Placing my order over the phone was very easy and the person on the other line was very friendly. The place was jam packed and my food was ready on time when I arrived. We ordered the half peking duck, fish hot pot and kung pao shrimp. The duck was OK. It came with the usual pancakes, sauce and scallions. The pancakes were good. They has separated the skin from the meat of the duck which I don’t believe to be usual. The fish hot pot was a little salty for my taste but the flavors were absolutely on point, brining with Mala peppercorns. The fish was well cooked and as a whole this was a very solid dish. The kung pao shrimp was definitely better than your average take-out. I’d definitely order from here again.

I really hesitate to post this review because I am afraid people will overrun this hidden gem and the next time I visit I won’t be able to find a place to sit! The restaurant is extremely small and the leg room is comparable to the cheap budget Asian airlines I’ve been on before. As in, you will not be able to extend your legs at all. I guess this is a small price to pay for authentic and flavorful food. We ordered the beef noodle soup and beef chow foon. The beef chow foon was okay, pretty standard, but the beef noodle soup was incredible. The flavor was so deep and had a very slight but unique numbing spicyness(«ma la» flavor). The noodles were handmade and chewy and the beef was tender. It is so hard to find a good beef noodle soup here with authentic flavor in the broth but this is the best I’ve had in the Metro DC area. It hit just the right spot on a cold wintry day!

The Peking Duck. It’s obviously their specialty — walk into this restaurant and they basically expect you to order one. It’s $ 35 for a whole duck(which I personally think is kind of expensive, but maybe it’s okay?). The duck was roasted well, and carved well — the chef even took the liberty to cut off the really fatty parts. The skin was crispy which my mom really enjoyed, and the meat was tender. It was kind of oily, but I think I’d come back here for the duck. The duck sauce. Far too sweet. Took me a couple of tries but I ended up taking the tiniest drop of the sauce, spreading it thinly over the wrapping skin, and masking the sweetness even more with a hearty helping of the green onions. The wrapping skin. Kind of thick, but okay. The other stuff. The selection of dishes outside of the duck was actually kind of disappointing for a Chinese restaurant. They didn’t even have pea shoots(dou miao)! What kind of Chinese restaurant doesn’t have pea shoots? In fact, the only vegetable they had available was Chinese broccoli. We also tried the 8 treasure tofu hot pot(ba zhen dou fu bao) — it was okay, nothing spectacular — the tofu was good but the chicken in it was kind of dry and tasteless. Anyways. The duck is pretty good.
