My favorite area Mexican restaurant. From the time you enter it just feels like an authentic Mexican experience. The staff is friendly and the service is good. They have a full bar so if you want drinks with your meal you’re good to go. I mainly go here for lunch with a buddy or two but have had dinner once. I have never been disappointed in the food or anything else. Every single thing I’ve tried has been perfectly prepared and absolutely delicious. Fajitas, tacos(I always get soft), burritos, enchiladas, etc… I love all of it! I really enjoy the hot delicious rice and beans too along with some top notch guacamole. They start you off with a bowl of chips with salsa and white sauce, I could keep dipping into that delicious white sauce all day. I’m really making myself hungry writing this short review, I’ve got to call my buddy and get back to El Azteca for lunch. There’s plenty of parking in the shopping center lot, the restaurant is clean and comfortable with a casual décor. Don’t waste any more time looking for a favorite Mexican restaurant, this is the one.

We went here and it was just ok. The food was bland Mexican fare that offered no surprises. The margaritas were fluorescent green and tasted kind of like a slurpee margarita if you can imagine. Not the best but not the worst. Prices are kind of lower than some other local Mexican chains but with the $ 2 – 3 less, you get a run down interior and food that is better than Taco Bell but only barely. If there were no other options, I would say it was sufficient but I think that you can easily find much better Mexican food these days in the local area.

This is by far my favorite place to eat in Virginia Beach. Its kind of a hole in the wall, hard to find place, but once you do find it, it is a gem. The food! The food is amazing. My favorite dish is the Chori Pollio. Its grilled chicken, chorizo sausage and onions with queso cheese, and served with rice, beans, and flour tortilas. Perfect amount of heat with the chorizo, and the chicken is always moist. Get it with some sour cream. You will have enough left over to take home. They give you so much food for what you pay and they are by far the fastest service ive ever had. They also have that white dip for the chips that most mexican restaraunts dont have anymore and its delicious. They also have quick take out and a very small bar when you walk in. Skip Plaza Azteca and head to this little beauty because they are amazing.

Sadly, I don’t come here as often as I did prior to having my now 5 yr old(she only likes plain chicken and spinach — lol), but during a rare day with time to myself, I had a hankering for Mexican food and dropped by El Azteca for lunch yesterday. Absolutely delicious. The food here is beyond comforting… comforting Mexican food in a comfortable, down to earth restaurant. The salsa is homemade and fresh(stunningly good) and they bake their own chips… I saw some new faces that I didn’t recognize and for whatever reasons, some of the staff did not look too happy(hope they’re doing ok financially), but regardless, my food came out fast, hot, fresh and more than reasonably priced. The food here is really very good… it’s too bad that my 5 yr old has such a picky palate, because if she didn’t, we would be here all the time!

I love this place! They have the best food: always hot, always fast, always great. They not only give you the standard salsa with the complimentary chips, but they also bring the white sauce too. I really should try other things on the menu, but I have a hard time NOT ordering the Tacos de Carne asada since I tried them years ago. Three corn tacos with grilled steak — cooked perfectly. It comes with this tasty tomatillo sauce and pico, but I always order a side of cheese to make it extra special. This dish also comes with refried beans and I have to say they are the best beans I have had. Seasoned just right. Even during dinner rush, the wait staff is on the ball. No sooner are you seated when there is someone at your table with menus, chips/salsa & sauce. You can tell its a «team effort» kinda thing when someone you have not seen before walks past your table and grabs empties. Casual dining, prices are low, the people are nice, and the food is fabulous.

Coming from Texas, the food is definitely decent for Mexican food. The further north I get from the Rio Grande, the more leary I get of Mexican restaurants. El Azteca did not dissapoint. They start you off with complementary chips and salsa. They served a red salsa and a creamy salsa that tastes like tartar sauce– strange, but I guess that is meant to appeal to the locals. For my entrée, I opted for green enchiladas, that I did enjoy. Service was ok, had to flag them down a couple of times, but overall not great not horrible. Food was fairly cheap, so I guess you get what you pay for.

My family has been coming to this place for well over a decade. They’ve watched my kids grow. We’ve gone there way too often because the food is excellent, and the people show that they care about their customers. We feel like we’re visiting friends when we go. There’s no question the food is authentic. They take pride in their restaurant, and it shows in the service and quality of the food. Everything I’ve gotten there has exceeded my expectations. If you want something cooked special, they’re happy to do it. They appreciate their customers.

This is a nice little place. The staff was friendly and efficient, the bathrooms were clean, so why just 3 stars?, I found the food to be a little bland, but I will go back.

I use to frequent this spot back in the pre Unilocal days when I lived in Virginia Beach. The food is good and service is quick every time I went there. On a recent trip I decided to stop there for nostalgic reasons and just as it was years ago the food was good. It came out quickly and with the usual warning«be careful the plate is hot.» This place is right on the corner where a KMart is located and yes there are still KMarts around. Someone said in a previous review that this place looked sketchy. Not true at all. Maybe the fact that there is a bus stop across the street made them scared. Anyway I just ordered the nachos with beef because it was as always my favorite dish. Once I tasted it it reminded me of why it was my favorite dish. Many Mexican restaurants have this dish but this place seems to add a little extra seasoning to the beef and the cheese melted perfectly. A very good experience to enjoy if you are in the area.

El Azteca reminds me of what Plaza used to be before they got fancy and expensive. The portions were huge and the meal was very flavorful. I typically do not like white sauce and opt for the salsa instead, but their’s is different. It’s not so mayo-ish and definitely appeals to my umami taste buds. Unfortunately, some of the dishes we ordered were very salty. Next time we go, we’ll ask the server to tell the cook to go easier on the salt, but all in all, it was a pleasant experience and we’ll definitely be back.

I went for lunch around 11am and the service was reasonably fast. I ordered a taco salad and was very satisfied with my decision. The others I went with also enjoyed their meals and did not have any problems. I did have trouble finding the location at first but it is located directly next to the Kmart near Town Center.

Mexican lunch today for the win. There isn’t much more you can ask for on a cold rainy day than for some hot Mexican. El Azteca, you delivered. I almost went with my usual steak meal but decided to switch it up and go with Tacos de Carne Asada. It was three soft corn tortillas served with pico de gallo, tomatillo sauce and beans. This was certainly new for me but I really liked my choice. The beef was tender and the pico de gallo was a nice add on. Of course, I had to order rice on the side. Note: a side of rice is one helluva serving. Overall, a high three star meal. This place may be tough to find. It’s not along the busy Virginia Beach Blvd. KMart certainly isn’t bringing them any foot traffic. Go off the beaten path, the opposite side of Target or where Kohl’s is at Pembroke Mall and you’ll find this spot.

Hole in a wall spot. It’s on the left corner of the Kmart shopping center in Pembroke. The place seems closed off and sketchy looking but don’t be alarmed, it’s a very home like Mexican establishment. Mi casa su casa kinda feel to it. Came in today on a Friday afternoon for my lunch break. Was craving Mexican and this place popped up on Unilocal though I give it a try. It’s divided into two big sections. Normal restaurant lighting from hanging lights. Booths everywhere and tables for big parties. Two flat screens. Bar where entrance is. What automatically gained my favor was the service here. After I seated myself(forgot to add you choose your own seat) I was quickly greeted with friendly smiles and chips and dip. I felt very welcomed and at home. I took a gander at their lunch menu which is located on the second page. I was in a little rush for lunch since I had to get back to work. At Mexican places I always get fried chimichangas w/chicken. Seeing their $ 6 below prices for lunch I couldn’t say no. It comes with sour cream, guacamole, tomatoes, and your choice of either beans or rice. I chose beans :) My order came out within 10 – 15 mins. Everything was hot and fresh. I took a bite of my chimichanga and it wasn’t bad(taste like every Mexican place I tried) it did the job for me. My server came 3 mins prior and asked me how everything was. I was pleasantly happy to see that the servers genuinely care. He came again another time within 10 mins to ask how I was. I definitely will come back next time to try their drinks and their dinner. Keep up the great service and this will definitely be to go to Mexican joint!
