Felt very overpriced. No good deals and stock was low. Maybe I just went on a bad day.

The Hampton Roads stores are being redesigned as Habitat for Humanity Restores. Great for those renovating their homes. They have minimized their selection of clothes and furniture. The cabinetry and home renovation products are still well priced for great quality items. Bummer for those who need a good deal on clothes and furniture. The store was a blessing to many young families on a budget at the start of a new year and Christmas time. Consider donating your clothes to CHKD Thrift stores or other thrift stores that serve non-profits in our community. Now that the stores stocking policies are different most of the clothes donated to these stores will now be given to other charities in bulk who may not be using them to help citizens in Hampton Roads. Support local charities.

Habitat for Humanity stores are different from most thrift stores in that they specialize in building materials and home improvement and repair items. This one in VB does carry clothing and other standard thrift store stuff, but there are also a lot of light fixtures, doors, windows, toilets, counter tops, you name it. Most of them are used, a few are new. I was in there the other day and I saw outside in the back, for example, boxes upon boxes of tile – all different shapes and sizes. A lot of the boxes had been opened and there was maybe a chipped tile or two in each box. If you were willing to sift through the piles and use a little creativity, you could probably tile a bathroom for next to nothing. And of course all the proceeds benefit Habitat for Humanity, and you can’t argue with that.

Everything AND the kitchen sink I’ve been there. You just got a great new place, need furniture but are seriously strapped for cash. In this case, skip the dumpster diving and curbside couches and hit up the Habitat General Store. An offshoot of Habitat for Humanity, the Habitat General Store has tons of used(some more gently than others) furniture, nice stuff too, to outfit every inch of your new pad. They literally have everything and the kitchen sink(no, I’m not kidding, I saw two kitchen sinks there). Looking to renovate your home on a budget? They’ve got kitchen cabinets, chandeliers, shelves and bureaus too. More than just furniture, Habitat also sells clothes, bikes, televisions, shoes and any other knick-knacks you could think of. Best of all, your money goes to a good cause – supporting Habitat for Humanity’s mission of providing homes for families in need. Spend money = feel good. Not many places can claim that.
