Food was good. Waitstaff was great, habachi chef was amazing, but management and communication need major improvements. Wife, DD3, and I are from out of town, so wife wanted to find a nice hinachi restaurant as a treat for our DD3. She looked online and Shogun was featuring a few deals: Sunday-Thursday Happy hour(equates to $ 2 off ALL sushi rolls) between 5pm and 7pm. And Sunday-Thursday Early Bird Special(equates to 10% off bill if seated between 5pm and 6pm). We showed up at 5:45pm and asked the hostess if the 2 specials were still going on. She said yes, and seated us immediately. Wife ordered the spicy california roll as an appetizer, and we both ordered off the hibachi menu(she ordered chicken and I ordered sukiyaki steak). DD3 «shared» off of our plates for a small fee of $ 3 as described on the menu. The sushi was ok, nothing to write home about, but what you’d expect a california roll to taste like. The hibachi chicken and steak was ok too. The hibachi chef was the highlight of the meal, and took his time to make sure all orders work cooked as specified and that everyone was happy. He was very entertaining. When the bill came, it had a bunch of upcharges and mistakes. When I asked the waiter for clarfification, he didn’t even know about any specials despite 2 large signs being posted outside of the main entrance describing them in detail, the website advertisements, and a few plackards on the tables themselves. The first thing we noticed is that they charged us $ 3 for rice to go with the hibachi. We were never given an option to decline rice or anything, but was made with and at the same time as everyone else’s food. We presumed, like at other hibachi restaurants, that rice came with the entrée. I was a little irked at that, but didnt find that the biggest issue. The next issue is that they changed full price for the sushi roll. Again, the waiter appeared that he had no idea what we were talking about. I had to pull up their website and show him the deal that it was $ 2 off ALL sushi rolls, to which he replied that he only worked there and the call to not honor the promotion was not his to make; he stated that the manager said the spicy california roll«did not count» and nonchalantly said«that’s how they get you.» The third issue was the $ 3 child share the plate charge was now on the bill as $ 5. This was ultimately corrected after a minor back and forth… the waiter checking with management and an appology by the waiter when he returned for«hitting the wrong button.» Finally, they did not include the early bird discount on the bill. This would have amounted to another upcharge of $ 6 had we not caught it. Again, after a brief back and forth explaining when we had been seated versus when the waiter put our order in the system was probably the issue(it was), this was ultimately corrected without further issue. The waiter even retroactively applied the discount to the other parties at our table. I can easily excuse a bill mistake here and there, but 4 things on one bill seemed extreme to me, expesially when management gave pushback. I’m not one to quibble over a 2 or 3 bucks differnce, but when it happens 4 times on one bill, this is how they can end up getting an extra $ 12 or $ 15. Ultimately, they only corrected the share plate charge and the 10%. We still eneded up paying for the overage on the rice and the non-happy hour price on the sushi. This turned an otherwise good meal sour. My wife commented that she would not have ordered the sushi had it not been included in the happy hour special. Next time we’re in town, we’re going to skip this one. Shame, because the food was ok and the chef was one of the best we’ve experienced.

Wanted to try a new sushi and hibachi restaurant… should have stuck with what I knew. Less than typical plaza hibachi. Didn’t taste that great, slightly over cooked and there were still veins in my shrimp. Mushroom a lá Japanese soup lol mediocre and salad was poor. The structure itself eh. shattered glass so be carfeul and it smells like it’s been closed up.

Was excited to visit Shogun based on most of the positive reviews on Unilocal.I was terribly disappointed… For me, Teppanyaki restaurants aka Hibachi. are 50% show and 50% food. Unfortunately, Shogun didn’t deliver in either case. Our chef was quiet, lacked skill, and his show consisted of cracking a couple eggs and an onion volcano. I did see another chef do what I would expect to see considering the cost($ 90 including tip) for two meals. But that was not our chef… now to the food. I had a seafood combo(lobster tail, scallops, and shrimp) with fried rice. I watched this chef overcook it all… and the fried rice was definitely not as good as I’ve had for much, much less. It was extremely disappointing and not worth what appeared to be a long wait… weak soup, bland salad… I wish I could write the glowing reviews some of the others had but it is not possible. I don’t recommend coming here if you want to get your money’s worth… If you do decide to go… I hope you have an amazing time…

Excellent service! We went in for hibachi dinner and they were able to accommodate gluten free! The chef made my food separate from the others and it was equally delicious. I brought my own soy sauce and they gladly used it. Would absolutely go back!

We had a really awesome chef and had a fun time even though we sat next to a family who wouldn’t stop talking about irrelevant football things. Would totally come again.

Went here to celebrate my Daughter’s 11th birthday. Was told it would cost $ 7.95 for them to sing to her. Waitress was terrible, she did not smile the entire time and acted like she did not want to be there. She also told me when handing me the check that the 15% tip added to the bill had to be split. Food was OK, I have had better in a mall food court. Portions were small compared to other hibachi steak houses I have been to. Rice was cold by the time the vegetables and chicken was done. Also the chicken was over cooked.

I am surprised by all the good reviews this restaurant received. We went for our daughter’s 11th birthday recently and were very disappointed. The restaurant looked dirty and outdated. Our server was very unfriendly, I don’t think she smiled once while we were there. We asked for some of the«yum yum» sauce which my kids love and she acted like it was an inconvenience to get it. The«performance» by the chef was ok, we have been to restaurants similar where they have done a much better job entertaining the table with their skills. The food was just ok, nothing I would go back for. I am very disappointed with our experience. I wouldn’t go back again.

We came for our friends birthday dinner, and there was about 27 of us. Big party. We had reservations at 630 and were sat about 20 minutes later. I wish they would at least sit you even if your missing 2 people which we were waiting for. It wasn’t like half our party just 2. Oh well. Waitresses were good for how large our party was. I got the sirloin and scallops and the boyfriend got filet, shrimp and chicken. Everything was cooked well and tasted yummy. Typical hibachi place. Solid 3 stars. And as always you go away smelling like cooking oil

We had reservations on a busy holiday evening. When we arrived, the 4 teenagers we were with begged to leave based on the tired, tacky décor. If Chik-Fil-A had been opened we may have ended up there because I agreed. First impressions are important and the first impression here was tired and depressing. Sitting in the waiting area near the bar, I was very fearful for our meal. Fortunately, we stayed and were seated at the hibachi table where the waitress was very attentive and friendly. Petey, our hibachi chef, was engaging and highly entertaining. He created a memorable experience for everyone. The food, while typical Japanese steakhouse, was fresh and cooked well. Not too salty or overdone. The steak was cooked to desired temperature and the scallops perfect! We left very pleased and would return.

The best thing about this place is the service. There are many options for hibachi in the area in fact one other place right across laskin in another shopping center. Shogun is set apart by service. The chefs are extremely entertaining, the servers are always on point and fast with everything and the food is fresh and yummy.

Went and got sushi here with my boyfriend and had minimal expectations. Got a mango mojito and it was the BESTONE I’VEEVERHADINMYLIFE, perfect. I went during happy hour and the rolls were $ 2 off. The sushi was so cheap but quality and it was really great to watch them make the sushi in front of me. It tasted great as well. Staff was very friendly, food was fantastic, they got a great tip from me. If there was anything I’d suggest, music in the sushi bar? It was a little too quiet. But I’d go back again in a heartbeat.

this place freakin sucks. Totally over priced. I went there for hibachi last week. Their micso soup with onion and mushroom… Idk what that was but it wasn’t good. Then the salad that comes with the meal with house ginger dressing taste like thousand island dressing watery and cheap tasting. The show was ok and where the white peanut sauce? I didn’t like getting just another ginger dipping sauce and a spicy ginger sauce. Not worth the money!

This was definitely not the best Japanese Steak House I’ve been to. The food was so so, and the décor could use a bit of a sprucing. The service was good, but for the price… I want the food to be equally good. I think since there is more than one steak house in my area, this particular one, I will probably not be interested in going to again.

This has been my third time attending here for dinner. I went the first time on a Saturday, second on a Friday, and this time was a Monday. All the times I went were about six months apart or so and each time has been a different experience along with being better and better each time. Obivously this past time I went they were not busy because it was a monday night. They have plenty of drinks to choose from if you are into alcohol. My husband loves their sake. We had gotten the only white man who cooks there and he is crazy funny, very talented, and cooks his food to perfection. The food was wonderful and made perfectly. They do however not give you as much rice as other places would, but that really isnt an issue for me since I don’t usually eat all of my food anyways. They don’t give you the white sauce automatically like other places, you have to ask for it and it is called ‘yum-yum’ sauce, but we didn’t get charged for it even after I asked for two of them. The place is a bit smaller than normal cook on the stove in front of you places, but the food is honestly unbeatable. There are only about eight stoves there so if you are crazy hungry, dont go here on a busy night because you will have to wait a long time.
