I’ve been coming to the highland games with my dad every year since I was just 2 years old. Now at 19 years old, I can really appreciate just how amazing this place is. There’s nothing better than sitting down under the big tent at the huge community tables among men in kilts drinking beer listening to some good quality(loud!) scottish music. The Wicked Tinkers are my favorite!!! Amazing food, amazing music, great scottish merchandise, and wonderful people. As soon as you walk through the entrance, you basically get to go back in time and watch all of the old games/competitions going on. it’s a good time all around. I look forward to it every year!!!

Didn’t know Unilocal had a category for Festivals. That being said, this is a ‘must attend’ event every June in Vista. It’s hard to believe a great event like this is hidden in Vista. Besides the pipes, drums, and other entertainment, I have to give high marks to Ballast Point’s Piper Down Scottish ale served in the beer gardens. Very refreshing while enjoying a meat pie on a hot day!

Wow, can’t believe I’m the first to review this, given the way everyone at this festival is just lively and into the games here! If you like some awesome Scottish marching bands, all sorts of clan tents where you can get acquainted with family genealogy(and who doesn’t like that, given that everyone’s at least 1⁄365th Scottish), good Celtic music in the form of the Wicked Tinkers, Highland Way and others, some awesome feats of strength with caper throws and such… sheep dog contests and more, this is a pretty fun event to go to. I always enjoy coming here and grabbing a bite to eat at one of the food vendors and then roaming about the weapons vendors and clan stuff before catching one of the wild Wicked Tinkers sets. Good times and it’s coming up this weekend(June 25th and 26th, 2011), so I mean to be there again!
