Ai Pono Maui

This is a residential eating disorder facility that just opened in October in Maui. I was one of the first patients that went there. I had been struggling with anorexia and bulimia since the age of 8, had almost died twice and was very ill when I came to the center. To be quite honest, when I arrived and for the first couple of months, I felt there was no hope in me getting better. I had been in residential at Monte Nido, Radar hospital and also outpatient in Oahu.
I can not express the care and the individualized attention I received from the staff. I have never before experienced such individualized care and unconditional love. The staff (although I wasn’t always crazy happy with them all the time) provided me with the best, high quality, individualized care available. The dietician is amazing (and who says that with an eating disorder??). She provides a very gentle, non aggressive approach with weight restoration and works with each person where they are at.
I NEVER thought I would conquer this eating disorder or did I have much hope in getting better. I moved to Maui just to do the IOP program (from Oahu so only an island away). This place literally SAVED my life. Although still going through outpatient, I am different then I have ever been plus I AM FINALLY LIVING MY LIFE TO THE FULLEST. I love this center and the staff and I think if I can get better, anyone can get better. If your eating disorder has taken over your life and you no longer have control, this is a great and SAFE place to go.
