Found his doctor online and because of the positive reviews (most of them) called the office to make an appointment. My first question was «Does he take new patients?». The answer was «Yes». Noël, the receptionist, asked some general questions about my health, concerns, and took insurance info with the promise to call back after verifying my coverage.
She called me back and told me that doctor «feels that he can not help me». What the heck??? He never saw me, and I wanted to be seen for my menopause, in which he claims to be a specialist, and somehow «he can not help me»???
After pointless conversation with the receptionist, some other woman called me back, maybe the office manager. He first words were «after reviewing your APPLICATION…» AN APPLICATION? Jesus Christ!!! Had no idea that now you have to «apply» for the appointment. I was not applying for anything, I just wanted to see a doctor. She also told me that at this time he does not take new patients, and that was the first question I asked when I called this office.
Sad, very sad… seems like a very unprofessional people work there.

Menopause expert!
RUN, don’t walk to see Dr. Kaplan!
He only one of two doctors in the area who has been decorated with a most sought after, certification of excellence in menopause health! He is a menopause expert!
How important is that???
He has given me back the use of my sexuality after hitting menopause at the age of 40, 13 years ago! And ladies, I don’t need to tell you how important that is!
So, if you need to be re-​introuduced to having your ladies parts working, Dr. Kaplan has so many options available, make the appointment! You’ll be so happy you did! :)

my name is Noël I am employed by Dr Kaplan. The best three years of my life. As a matter of fact sept marks three years I’ve been his receptionist. There are no words to explain how Dr Kaplan treats his patients. He is full of knowledge, compassionate, thorough in what he does. God has blessed me that I’m able to work with Dr Kaplan. You will walk in our office smiling walk out knowing you are in the best of hands. Our patients are our priority their well being is important. The best care you will receive from Dr Kaplan. It starts right when u walk in through the door you will be greeted by Karen and I. Then you will see the heart of hearts Sarah our wonderful medial assistant always has a smile welcoming heart. Dr. Alan Kaplan is simply the best! He is an expert in his field. He has been my doctor for 30 years and has helped me with everything from birth control to menopause and anything else that came up in between. Dr. Kaplan is not only a top rated doctor but is a great person and truly cares about his patients, as does his staff. He is extremely thorough, knowledgeable, gentle, caring and easy to talk to. I feel very fortunate to have him as my doctor and I highly recommend him.

I called Dr. Kaplan shocked only to find I couldn’t make an appointment because doesn’t take my insurance and won’t accept self pay! Never had a Dr. refuse cash before.

It’s been 4 years and I’m still 100% on Team Kaplan. He was awesome when I first started going to him and he’s even more awesome today.
Every time I go in for my check ups, it’s like walking in to a friends house. I love it! Everyone is very friendly and welcoming. What I love most about Dr. Kaplan is that he has my best interest at heart at all times. I trust him 100% with my «girl» business.
I would recommend him to any/​all of my friends in a heartbeat.

I have to update my review because I’m so impressed with the way Dr. Kaplan has responded to my complaints.
My phone was stolen a week and a half ago, so when Dr. Kaplan initially tried to contact me, he couldn’t. Instead, he called my mother, my emergency contact, and asked her to tell me he was sorry that I had to wait so long, that I was billed for these visits by mistake, and that he hopes to keep me as a patient. It was thoughtful of him to make this effort himself and to keep trying until he got hold of someone.
Then, today, I received a letter, handwritten by Dr. Kaplan, to apologize again for the billing mix up and encourage me to talk to him about any medical concerns. He also included a refund check for my visits.
I really appreciate Dr. Kaplan’s efforts to make amends and his warmth toward me, even after a negative review. Not only he a great doctor, but he’s a pretty good guy, too.

I still find this office to be fantastic. If you are looking for a new doctor, come give this place a shot. I am a medical professional and am very discerning when it comes to doctors and participating in my care. I have colleagues and their families that have also mentioned how much they love Dr. Kaplan and use him for their personal care. Dr. Kaplan is a quality doctor, and a lot of us love him.
I would also be weary of the other negative reviews on here. Who sends other Unilocal reviewers creepy messages defending their bad reviews? AWKWARD!!! I say people have problems beyond any office’s control and I wouldn’t take them to heart. Keep your personal problems to yourself and don’t try to defend your issues to complete strangers. Do you really need to vent your drama online for the world to see? That should give you a red flag that it isn’t really the office and it is something personal going on. I wish there was a way to block emotionally unstable people on here.

WOW! More evidence of what it is like to deal with this office. I just picked up a message from someone named Tammy. I believe she is in billing for Dr. Kaplan. She left a message about 3 – 4 minutes in length, laden with threats.
I have received several statements for an invoice that had already been paid, on time, back in October 2011. I informed them on more than one occasion that this had already been paid and asked them to stop sending me these statements.
Evidently they sent me an invoice for another visit for $ 70+. The only correspondence I have received from that office are 3 statements for the old balance that had already been paid. So obviously they have my correct address. If they had sent a bill I would have just paid it. I would never let a bill go unpaid. I didn’t even know I had another bill. Even if I did know but didn’t receive one I would have assumed they didn’t charge me because my experience was so horrendous. That is what companies do when their services don’t live up to the expectations of the consumer.
In her message Tammy claims that they sent that bill and her proof is that she has a record of it. That may be true, but just because she has a record of sending it doesn’t mean they did. Then she continues with her tirade threatening to take me to collections and to contact my insurance company to report that I don’t fulfill my obligations. She also threatened to contact others about me. I contacted my insurer about this threat and they said it has no impact whatsoever on my insurance. Her reason for that threat wasn’t clear to me. I think she just wanted to make sure I was suitably intimidated by their office. This is not surprising.
So, once again, they just continue to validate my experience. Not everyone has the same experience as is clear by the other posts. However, do you really want to chance it when there are so many fine doctors in the area that do not use threats and intimidation?
As a consumer I always look at both the negative and positive reviews to get a clear picture of what I am getting into. Hopefully my reviews present another side that you can take into consideration when choosing a doctor.

Dr Kaplan saved my life, I had a cyst that had ruptured in his office and he worried about me and called to check on me at home, When he found out I had a fever he insisted I get to the ER immediately. He kept calling the ER to see if I was there yet several times. Long story short I had septicemia and was admitted to the Hospital that moment. Had emergency surgery the following morning to remove the toxic cyst. It was as big as an orange. I think he is a great doctor but never felt he treated his staff with respect. Every time I went there the whole staff had changed. Some Doctors are great doctors but not very good human beings. IF you can get past the constant flow of staff members he is the doctor to go to. He can joke around a lot but at the hospital when he gave an order it got done. His care was above the normal.

I called Dr. Kaplan office and was told he no longer delivers babies. His wife (i’m assuming) picked up the phone and was such a doll! She asked me questions and gave me 3 names and numbers of other Doctors and explained what makes each one different. I am new to the area and changing Dr. s in the middle of my pregnancy, so her friendliness and suggests was really needed! What a gem! Thank You Linda Kaplan!

I was a patient of Dr. Kaplan’s for about 5 years. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Dr. Kaplan. He has a great sense of humor, and has a magical way of making you feel relaxed and at ease.
Not only is he the doctor in his practice, but he actually cares. He even calls to follow up! And don’t get started on the level of respect the staff at John Muir has for him. He gives an order, and it’s done like yesterday.
The reason I am no longer a patient of Dr. Kaplan is his staff. His wife runs the office, and let me say, she is no peach. She looks and treats patients like children, or like they are less than her (I am not the only one who has felt this way, including my own mother). To sum it up, she is snobby and rude. On top of it all, they can’t even keep a steady office staff because of how poorly they treat their own staff. They talk down to them in front of patients! talk about uncomfortable!
Never the less, Dr Kaplan is a FANTASTIC OBGYN.

I’ve been procrastinating forever on Dr. Kaplan’s Unilocal review … because he’s so fantastic and I’ve had so many reasons to praise him that i just never knew where to start .
Dr. K was referred to me by Dr. Toby Lustig, a fab pediatrician that I will also be Unilocaling shortly. I was in my early 20s, and the trend amongst my friends was to choose a midwife or female OB under the assumption that she would be more «compassionate». But what I wanted was a good old-​fashioned old school doctor with tons of experience and a calm, gentle demeanor. Dr. K is all that and so much more. I probably have hundreds of examples of Dr. K’s awesomeness, but i’ll just list a few:
– I’ve had dozens and dozens of appointments with Dr. K, and never once have i had to wait more than 15 minutes. I can only remember a single instance when he had to reschedule because of a baby delivery, and his office called to let me know before I left the house. I’ve always found this amazing. how does a guy have a chance to deliver thousands of babies and STILL keep his appointments running so smoothly?
– I’ve never seen anyone so genuinely excited about a baby belly. I remember one day when I was feeling especially fat and ugly and hormonal, i stopped by his office and his eyes absolutely lit up when he saw my belly. he told me how fantastic I looked and he even sounded like he meant it! Made my day. Seriously.
– I had a ridiculously long labor with my 2^nd daughter, and when the nurses were still pushing me to turn my big huge pregnant self every which way to attempt a vaginal delivery, Dr. K knew just when to call it quits. I ended up having an emergency c/​section, which I was scared to death of… but I am eternally grateful that Dr. K let me go as long as I possibly could and then took charge when the going got tough. My husband tells me that Dr. K saved my life that day (my BP was through the roof)… but all I can remember is holding my big beautiful baby girl, and babbling «thank you thank you thank you doctor kaplan» until I was whisked into recovery.
– My 3^rd daughter was a completely smooth scheduled c/​section. Dr. K took such good care of me during my pregnancy that I had no complications whatsoever. Perfect.
– When I got pregnant for the 4^th time, I called Dr. K the day I got a BFP… and I nearly cried when told me that he had retired from baby delivering. BUT he referred me to another awesome doctor, and promised to visit me in the hospital. which he DID. Despite the fact that he had a very pitiful head cold, he stopped by and popped his head into my recovery room just to see baby and me.
– My mirena IUD: Even after delivering 4 babies, I was still crazy scared of how much it would hurt to have an IUD put in. I’d heard horror stories from my girlfriends about how painful and uncomfortable the insertion was, but Dr. K pulled it off with minimal discomfort.
And, finally, the true sign of a Doc with a fab bedside manner — he actually thanked ME for being his patient. Well this is one happy customer! I give him and his wonderful staff 5 million stars!

Dr. Kaplan is an awesome Dr. I was referred to Dr. Kaplan about 8 years ago. I felt comfortable with him right from the beginning. He is caring, kind, compassionate and has a great sense of humor. Dr. Kaplan really listens to my concerns and never makes me feel rushed. He is also very thorough while being very fast and attentive to your needs. I can’t say enough about this wonderful Dr., He’s a rare find these days and I’m glad I found him.

Dr Kaplan is the best! Not only is he an amazing and very intelligent doctor but he is a wonderful person. We met Dr Kaplan when I was pregnant with our daughter and he was our OB for a while until he had to discontinue his OB practice and stick with the gyn portion. Even though a different doctor delivered our baby, I will always see Dr Kaplan for any gynecology needs. I know this sounds crazy, but my husband and I always look forward to seeing him and everyone is the office. Amber, his medical assistant is so sweet and makes you feel so comfortable and his wife Linda always comes out to say hi and takes such good care of us. There is such a great atmosphere of kindness and respect throughout his office and we love everyone. Thank you to Dr. Kaplan, Linda and Amber for taking such good care of me and my family!

Dr. Kaplan is the BEST.
I was referred to Dr. Kaplan by my primary care physician when I got pregnant. He was wonderful throughout the entire process.
On my first appt I was a bit wary of him because he can get pretty silly and makes a lot of jokes. I am all for jokes, but at the end of the day I also need a serious doctor and he is!!! But he is very intuitive and cares about his patient’s feelings. During one appointment he had to deliver news to me that I had Gestational Diabetes and he could tell I was very upset about it, but he was able to make me laugh which I appreciated.
Towards the end of my pregnancy I mentioned to him that I knew I might not get him for my delivery and he said «Chances are very good that you will-I’ve only missed one birth all year» And true to his word, did deliver my baby. His office is right across the street so he came right over when I went into labor. I brought in a birth plan that I gave to the front desk and he and the nurse went over it immediately and he was VERY respectful of my wishes. *Possible TMI Alert: I did not want an episiotomy. During my labor he mentioned to me that he thought it would help, but did not give me one, just as I’d requested. I did wind up with a lot of tearing and asked him if doing one would have prevented that and he said «No, I think it might have made it worse, actually». I really admired his honesty in telling me that. Dr. Kaplan seems to genuinely love his work and was very upbeat and easygoing on the day I had my son and I felt very safe in his capable hands.
Also, as others have said, his staff is an absolutely WONDERFUL group of ladies. They will always remember your name when you go in and you definitely feel very cared for when you go there.

I was referred to Dr. Kaplan by my primary doctor, and I’m so glad I called him. I had a list of three, but some things are just meant to be. I was nervous going in, but he took the time to explain things to me, before and after my physical exam, and while he was «working» I barely had time to think about what was going on because he kept me distracted with chat. But I always felt he was very focused on the task at hand. And any guy who encourages you to discuss things with your friends and source «my vajayjay doctor» is good by me.

Dr. Kaplan might be a great MD, but he is a horrible human being. He has disrespected me has called me not so nice names. Mr. kaplan just because I dont have a PhD next to my name does not mean you can treat people like crap. Yes he is the nicest man ever, duh you just bought him his new car!

Love, love Dr. Kaplan!!! When I was pregnant with my youngest son, he was my obgyn and he was the best, no pain, and it was so quick, I wasn’t sure if he did anything :) He makes an uncomfortable experience pretty painless and quick.

Dr Kaplan is the best OBGYN you can find. Dr Kaplan has the very best bed side manners one can ever find. His office is covered with cards, photos and letters from all his patients thanking him for all he does. This Dr truly care about your health and well-​being and takes a complete approach to your overall health. He is a gem and a rare find!
The office staff is also really wonderful. His office will fit you in, in a hurry if needed and they are extremely accommodating. His wife also helps in the office. This office feels like a wonderful place where people genuinely care about you.
