This place is a tried and true favorite of my family. When in Amish country you MUST order the specialties: mashed potatoes and noodles, chicken dinners etc.

My husband and I have eaten at Der Dutchman for years. It is always good. I have the all white turkey and gravy and David has the broasted chicken. We like the salad bar. The view is amazing from the large windows. They are always busy so expect a wait. It is worth the wait.

My wife had a smoked turkey sandwich(so-so), and I had a chicken pot pie(very good). Huge helpings. Very busy(and large) place, with friendly and prompt service. Nice views of the rolling countryside out of our window seats. Adjacent bakery — you’ve got to check it out when you’re done with dinner.

This is a yummy place with delicious freshly home-cooked food. The peanut butter is the best and they have incredible creamy pies(such as coconut pie or chocolate pie).

GREAT restaurant! Everything was hot & fresh. Salad bar was really good. That peanut butter/AWESOME sauce is PHENOMENAL!!! Prices were reasonable, especially for the amount of food you get. Service & cleanliness were both acceptable.

I’ve been to Der Dutchman dozens, maybe even hundreds, of times over the years. In my opinion, it has long-ago topped out and is going downhill. The food itself is still OK, but the last several times I’ve gotten the chicken, the serving size has gotten smaller, and smaller… and smaller. Same with the roast beef(which is usually pretty dried out lately). This past weekend it was so bad that I actually measured the length of the chicken leg I was served. 2.5 inches. The other pieces were proportional to that tiny leg. It was so bizarre, we actually started laughing. The mashed potatoes are pretty grainy, and most else is pretty average by today’s standards. We’ve decided there are better options than the fake ‘neo-amish’ cooking of Holmes County, Der Dutchman included. It’s now nothing more than a normal family restaurant in a country setting.

This was a excellent choice for lunch. The line was out the door which is a good sign. We only waited about 25 minutes. The line moves quickly. We had roast beef, sweet potato and stuffing and chicken and noodles. Skip the salad bar. There is not that much of a selection.

I had the Amish sampler(turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes with gravy, and green beans), and it was amazing. Their peanut butter and apple butter was amazing, and I ended up buying some before I left. We didn’t have a wait when we came in at 7pm on a Saturday.

Line was crazy long. Greeters weren’t super friendly, had to wait to get table. Food was okay. Server wasn’t good, not absolutely terrible, just not good. Not really friendly or much help. They were out of roast beef and peach pie just to name a few things there were out of. Just not a great experience overall. Have had better experiences at different locations.

Delicious family style food. The fried chicken was the most tender we’ve ever eaten anywhere-including in Indiana Amish country. Yum!

My daughter and I went to Der Dutchman in Walnut Creek last Friday. I was really disappointed in the increase of prices and quality of the pie we had. The pie had more fake whip cream than filling. Very surprised that a one piece chicken dinner with salad bar was nearly 13.00. The prices have doubled and the quality has declined.

Bland and boring. Why people wait in line for their food is surprising to me. Seriously.

Mixed review here. The services was pretty good. We were sat quickly, and the food arrived quickly. The place is clean. I had the roast beef dinner with mashed potatoes and noodles. It was pretty good. My wife had the fried chicken. It was soggy and she said it tasted«off.» My daughter, who loves chili, had the chili and wouldn’t eat it, saying it was too sweet. There are other Amish Restaurants that I would go to before this one.

I love Der Dutchman… SOMUCH! I’ve been to multiple locations lots of times! I live in Columbus, so Plain City location is closer. I always enjoy coming here though when I’m up in Amish Country. Lots of really amazing home-cooked meals to choose from! Buffet doesn’t start until 3:00 p.m.(on most days from what I know) When ordering from the menu, my recommendation: the sampler. You can choose from 2 or 3 meats and several sides. Comes with the salad bar. You WON’T be disappointed! The bakery is good with lots of tasty pastries, cookies, and other things to choose from. The best part, THEVIEW from the dining room! It over looks the valley and you can watch buggies clip-clopping by while eating. I’ll be back here again… and again… and again! Kudos to Der Dutchman!

Not sure what the hype over this place really is. The food was not awful by any means, just nothing to rave about. The buffet is just a smaller version of Home Town Buffets. Very confused…

Good food. They usually get us in pretty quickly considering we usually come with a group of 12 or more. The roast beef is a favorite of mine. while here you have to check out the bakery. also if you ask the waitress will put free cookies from bakery for the kids down on your receipt.

Broasted chicken and peanut butter pie! That’s all I need to say. It’s amazing the amount of people who are coming in and out, yet it’s not that loud of an atmosphere.

I think their food is good, and i like how they have a lot of options where you get a variety of things(including a 4 sampler dessert option). I got the salad bar for the variety, and was especially pleased with the eggs and deli salad stuff. The apple butter on the table was not good(too watery), nor was the dressing/stuffing any good. I did taste the broasted chicken, and that was good.

Come for the Chicken Dinner — Stay for the PIE My wife and I make an «annual pilgrimage» to Amish Country and we always have dinner at Der Dutchman before heading home. We never have to look at the menu because we always get their baked chicken. Unfortunately we’re so full after finishing our meal that we don’t have room for dessert. However, we make our way over to their attached bake shop and get a WHOLE pie to take home. Try their peanut butter pie — one of our favorites!
