John Muir Health Outpatient Center, Walnut Creek

Oh Boy, we most definitely have Major Medical PPO insurance coverage. Diagnostics & Labs are covered 100% when performed at a Doctor’s Office or done at a «Stand Alone» facility, NOT part of a Hospital stay. The coding by a Outpatient Facility is to be «Professional». The issue is John Muir Outpatient at 1450 Treat Blvd., Walnut Creek uses the «Facility Coding» which is reserved solely to a Hospital. In addition they use the Hospital’s Nonprofit Federal ID, that is reserved solely to Hospitals. Thus, causing a defective Explanation Of Benifits to us, the insured patient. Since NO Hospital stay was involved the «Facility Coding & Not For Profit Federal Tax ID was inappropriately erroneous used. John Muir Outpatient is listed on Blue Cross/​Shied, AETNA, HealthNet, etc’s… websites as part of the PPO organizations, meaning No Co-​Insurance is to be charged. After services are performed they will dispute they are a PPO, demanding to be paid at the Out Of Network price. Watch Out they will send you to collection, even though you’ve done everything right, nothing wrong. Their billing practices are very dissengenuios. We are part of a 200K employee based company, and they have done the same to our coworkers.

Doctor condescending. I went with my husband for something potentially serious (ended up in a chronic condition and a serious medical procedure at Alta Bates in three weeks) and it was obvious she did not like me there. She dismissed his complaints. I had to push for an x-​ray (thinking pneumonia). She threw herself around and agreed to it. I have rarely seen such poor behavior (a young doctor, no bedside manner, probably hates her job). Next day we had to return and see another doctor. I have been trying for a year to get the charge for the first doctor taken off and have refused. Worse, my communications have taken MONTHS to be answered, and the last one not answered at all by Muir’s Patient Care Department. Very sad to see Muir fall to this level. We are articulate, appreciative patients with all medical care, pay our bills, and to be treated like this that day, have to come back the next, end up at a different facility altogether, and then be charged for it, and worse, ignored by Patient Care. I have had credit card companies give me more response than this Patient Care Department. Shame.

I went to John Muir Urgent Care at Treat Blvd with a bad sore throat and was attended by this very nice nurse named Mirela and this very good doctor named Dr Hollander. I was seeing less than 15 minutes after I arrived. All the stuff at this hospital were courteous and nice to me, I recommend this facility to anyone who needs an urgent care. I am feeling much better now thank to you guys!

After having been turned away at John Muir Outpatient Center without any further help, I was desperate and decided to try Valley Care instead. I was greeted by Nathalie at reception who was very kind and compassionate. I only had to wait a few minutes and was promptly seen by the tech, David, who was also very nice. He took a much more thorough initial assessment than I had at John Muir, which I appreciated. Given that the meds I had been taking had not been working, the doctor prescribed me a new medication and suggested some testing (again, more thorough!). The nurse, Sidney, assisted me with the test and made me feel comfortable despite it being an awkward situation. She was very professional and had a good sense of humor. Within several hours, I started feeling better after having been extremely sick for 4 days. I was extremely grateful to the team for their help and support!
In response to my initial Unilocal review about John Muir Outpatient Center, they did write me an apology and said they would forward my concerns to the appropriate department. I did appreciate their following up in a timely manner.

Short review: Went to get the lump on my lymph node checked and the receptionist was unable to figure out a phone system.
Long review: I know that the current insurance system is kind of a pain to deal with, but treating a patient like it’s their fault is completely unprofessional. I missed my appointment window (despite getting there early) and was standing at a desk for 20 + minutes as the woman continued to try to figure out if I was covered. Realizing I wouldn’t be able to see a doctor (because I can’t afford anything right now) I started crying. Sorry, but a lump that starts to hurt is a startling symptom to have, and I just wanted to know if it was serious. The woman had absolutely no sympathy for me, rolling her eyes frequently. Tears rolling down my face, I left after I realized I wouldn’t be able to see the doctor anyway. On my way out multiple patients asked if I was ok.
I went home, called the insurance company and got a solid answer. Sure, it took awhile to get the right person, but is that my fault?
Will never be going back here. Extremely unprofessional and unconcerned.

Other than the catchy commercial advertising John Muir hospital, I had not given this hospital much thought. All that changed when I found my self inquiring assistance with my father medical needs. I called around to several medical institutes with no luck until I reached the John Muir Urgent Care Center. They were quick to identify our medical needs and made an appointment for my father within an hour. When we arrived at the facility they provided us the best service possible and definitely exceed my expectations. They went as far as helping my father find a permanent physician so he could have access to a steady health care provider. Thank you John Muir for being their when we needed it the most!

I was trying to make an appointment for my annual review. The phone always seems to be busy. I used the option of having them call me back. They called about 20 minutes later. My primary care doctor Joy Bloch seems to have a very busy schedule. I ended up making an appointment with one of her associates. Frustrating to try to get in to see your PCP. Last year I think I saw one of her associates also.

Motorcycle accident left me with bruised ribs and severe pain. Doctors were rude every time I visited. Didn’t want to give me anything for the pain. Had to come back twice just to get 10 days worth of me medicine. Neither Dr. agreed on healing time.

This review is for John Muir urgent care. I cut my finger really badly and came here for a couple stitches. I did not want to go to John Muir emergency room because I had a really bad experience there. The registration staff was courteous and quick. They got my medical insurance on the phone right away and got approval for my visit. The nurses, doctor and the staff all were very nice and very efficient. They went over all my medical history very thoroughly. The Doctor Who gave me my stitches was very diligent and I am impressed on how quickly my wound is healing and the scar is minimal. I went back a second time to get my stitches out and I saw a different doctor and nurse and they were both excellent and thorough as well. I feel the wait time for me was very reasonable I was in and out of there quickly both times. This facility is brand-​new so everything is clean and the atmosphere is comfortable.

their front office needs to get their shit together. there is no transparency or communication between workers and getting a simple task done becomes the most difficult. one front office worker had the nerve to tell me i wasn’t a patient at their office because their computer couldn’t find me. well go check another computer or ask your co-​workers to find me in the system — don’t deny me my medical care because you can’t think of alternative ways to find my chart. i’ve gotten lab work done wrong, workers promising me they will fix it, and learning months later that they never did it (and the office tried to blame LabCorp. what kind of office doesn’t follow up on orders if they don’t see a result come in?)
i’m so glad i’m out of the John Muir system. they love to build flashy buildings and boast about their mediocre name. don’t believe the hype. go to Kaiser, Stanford, or any UC care.

Great customer service and excellent patient care. They go above and beyond and treat every patient with quality care.

Yesterday was my first time visiting any John Muir facility and I was pleasantly surprised. The integration of Kaiser mins the institution feel and with a much friendlier staff, from what I experienced. The PCP I met with (Dr. KC in Family Medicine, hey girl hey!) was very professional and took the time to explain both what she was doing and why she was doing it throughout our interaction, which is comforting as a patient. She seemed to genuinely listen and hear me when I expressed my complaints and concerns, which also helped put me at ease.
At every point of contact in the facility – registration, checking in, checking out, the nurses, etc. – I was impressed by the staff. It was a morning appointment, which does mean I had the lovely opportunity to see these ladies and gents before being worn ragged and overworked by some of the more inhospitable patients and charges of the day but I did get a feeling that they were happy to be there for the most part. I’m not saying I’m about to break both my legs so I have an excuse to go back, but I think I may just be willing to ditch my old PCP and start goin’ steady with John Muir.

A couple of months ago my husband and I decided to start growing our family of two. Well, family of four if you count our two cats, but… it’s really just us two. We’re working on having a baby and I wanted to make sure I’m as healthy as possible before I begin caring for a mini! My new doctor referred me to the Lab at this new JMH location and I stopped in on my way to work on Friday morning.
At 9 a.m. there were a lot of people waiting ahead of me to give their blood to the lab. I walked out after hearing there was a 30 minute wait, but then returned and sat anxiously thinking about needles for exactly 30 minutes. They were on time and I was happy the wait wasn’t longer than I was expecting it to be. The staff behind the urgent care counter was less professional than the ladies at the check-​in for the lab. Four women gabbed loudly about one of their new hair color and her new iPhone. Perhaps I wasn’t in the best mood because I was scared about the blood work, but it seemed really unprofessional to sit and loudly talk in front of a room full of patients. Don’t you have work to do?
Eduardo called my name and led me to a back room and immediately I felt the blood drain from my face. He noticed it too and asked if I was okay. He had me turn away and tied off my arm before tapping on my terrified veins. I barely knew that he had filled all the vials when he was bandaging me up. I bruise really easily and last time I gave blood my arm bruised really badly. No bruise this time! Very gentle and kind and patient with my fear. I hope I don’t have to go back any time soon, but if I do, I hope I get him to do all of my needle work.

I needed to get some lab work done, so I wasn’t necessarily here for any type of outpatient type of services. This review will be based on the LabCorp group located within this JMH facility.
Not all of my fellow Unilocalers know this, but I’ve been trying to eat right and stay fit for many reasons. But the one primary reason/​goal, is that so I can donate one of my kidneys to my dad. Over the last year and a half, I’ve done blood-​work at various clinics, hospitals, and especially at crappy Quest Diagnostics (try avoiding them unless you intend on setting up camp at one of their locations). Now as for JMH and LabCorp, every time I visit, I seem to never have any issues with the staff or services. Whether if you need to submit a urine sample or have your blood drawn, you’re gonna wait in line and wait your turn. That’s just part of it, so remain patient.
As for the facility itself, it’s one of the more cleaner ones than versus, oh lets just say, at a county hospital. And believe me, I’ve been there. It’s like night and day. Going here is like a breath of fresh air. Also, no appointment needed; Just show up with the proper paperwork. No issues with parking either.
But going back to me, I was taken care of by Marilyn who was very nice and helpful. I submitted to her my container full of stuff, did a glucose test, and gave 20 vials of blood. All within two hours. Kudos to her and the staff. I’m really relieved I live close to this facility, and I will definitely use their lab services again in the near future.
