My mother and I attended a board meeting here tonight for an organization with which I’m a director. It was planned in advance with the management of Rendezvous. The place is a dive bar that has seen better days, emblematic of poor economic times on Moody Street as Watch City became no more; there were not many people there, except for some drunks I got the feeling were regulars. It’s a strange setup. Ordering food is done at a small window, like a drive-thru but indoors. Drinks, alcoholic or non, are ordered at the bar. Both are cash only. It’s cheap enough for it to be reasonable not to accept cards, but the amount of food was small enough to consider it overpriced. Even the sodas were small. Bottled beer drinkers and those who ordered sides of fries may disagree. As we’re celiac we can’t have those, and thus called in advance to get information about the menu. Upon speaking to the cook — who seemed pleased to get quite the gluten-free education — it was ascertained we could have either the ribs or the steak tips. We both had the steak tips with brown rice and corn. They were reasonably high quality bar food, prepared correctly. Previously aforementioned regulars were awfully loud and annoying, occasionally attempting to heckle our meeting; that’s hardly the fault of the staff, but it did make it difficult to hear the proceedings. I don’t know if the staff attempted to quiet the other patrons, but I wish they had, especially as management had seemed pretty desperate for the business of a large group. I doubt my organization will use Rendezvous again as a meeting location and I’m not really sure why I’d go here otherwise, but it’s good to know they can do gluten-free if I ever need a bite to eat at the right time of day(or night) on Moody Street.

I’ve frequented the«Vous» maybe a dozen times in my life. Each time has been memorable. My favorite moment at the Rendezvous was they had a crane/claw machine, but instead of candy or stuffed animals it was knock-off mp3 players and smut dvds. Sadly the crane game is gone, but they still have a pool table for a buck and half per rack. The touchscreen game is a little dated last time I played the word search I was searching for the 1991 Buffalo Bills roster. No taps, all bottled beer, pretty much every liquor under the sun. Cash Only and there is no ATM in the bar. The bar itself is pretty dated. They have a clock on the wall from the local funeral home, sort of fitting. But it’s a no frill place and the prices reflect it. Later on the weekends there is a DJ and they turn down the lights and play some dance music, I’ve always left before that dance floor got going full steam. My understanding is «Club Rendezvous» is frequented by one of Waltham’s many diverse cultural groups.
