Absolutely amazing and tastes amazing. Best sushi I’ve ever had! The sushi chef Alan is a go to! I’ve been going wherever he works since I’m a kid and it gets popular just by him being there!

Incredible sushi, food and service. If you’re a fan of Japanese food this is the place you want to go. The sushi chefs are amazing, we love them all, especially Alan! I recommend the Yellowtail and the mango Kani salad. Sake bomb!

My experience eating here would be forgettable if not for the unforgivable hour wait it took for our orders to arrive. There were one or two waitresses running around frantically when the place was nearly empty. I’m not sure what they we’re so busy with, but there were only two other small tables filled, and our table of 8 was by far the most neglected. When the food finally did arrive, it wasn’t bad, but that may have been because they left us starving for so long. Our waitress seemed irritated and impatient while we we’re giving our orders. She didn’t leave us with enough plates.

I had a lovely dinner here on 3÷28÷15 with CG! The exterior is very deceiving — looks a bit run down and dull but the inside is cozy and had a very homey feel. They even have a few of the traditional seating booths. We were too hungry to wait for one. Service was spectacular. The waitresses are in traditional dress, slippers and all! We were given hot towels along with our water and little plates of yummy sauteed green beans to start. We decided to order 4 special rolls — Mt. Fuji, Double Spicy, Double Dragon and Crab&Yellowtail rolls. I enjoyed all 4 of these! The presentation was so colorful and visually appetizing. I almost forgot to take photos! The rolls were massive and super fresh with huge fillings and toppings, worthy of the cost($ 13 – 16 per). My favorite of the bunch was definitely crab&yellowtail. We were glad we didn’t order appetizers since it was definitely more than enough. We saved room for dessert though — fried ice cream. Guilty pleasure and it was a delight. Will definitely be back!

A good night at Sapporo. Came here to introduce my bf to the Tatami room(japanese traditional floor seating). I really like how they provide hot towels when you sit down. Waitress was nice, attentive for our drink orders. For appetizers, make sure you order the scallop. it is not on the menu but the best thing they serve! Also went with edamame and then the sushi and sashimi for two. They let you sub the special rolls, which is really good since I don’t like the deep fried roll Sushi is good… not the most amazing but tasty. They brought out another beer to the table as a way to get us to visit on VDay but they still charged us which was strange. Had Mochi dessert, definitely recommend, my favorite. They have red bean, a lot of places do not. For traditional japanese seating, I would definitely recommend here

Excellent sushi actually some of the best. What you will find here. authentic Japanese –fresh delicious food in a traditional comfortable dining room. The service is excellent even when the place is packed. The owners have changed but the waitresses have been there for years. They are so kind and sweet and one of the reasons why this is my favorite. The other reason is the sushi and the chefs that prepare it. What I love most is what this restaurant is NOT — the nouveau Asian fusion«diner» with hundreds of rolls drenched in fruity sauces garnished with chive flowers that serve everything Chinese, Japanese and hibachi under one roof. Saporro does not have to do that. Their menu is old school and it works. The food is straightforward fresh and expertly prepared. When you make sushi this good you dont want to disguise it. What they do they do very well. I hope it never changes.

I’ve been to Sapporo several times and each visit brings back memories of my time spent in the Tokyo Tsukiji fish market. The sashimi there is among the freshest I had outside of Japan. I would make sure to try the toro(fatty tuna), red snapper, and the seared white tuna. As a big fan of avocados and tempura, I think the specialty rolls are also quite good. My favorites are the house special roll, the sweatheart roll and the caterpillar roll which all goes well with the pomegranate martini. For the dessert, the red bean ice cream or rice pudding is a must. The fried ice cream also looked pretty good but I didn’t get to try it. The staff(they actually wear yukatas!) is very cordial and helpful and the décor has a traditional Japanese feel to it. Sapporo even has traditional Japanese kotatsu tables which is fun for taking a date if you don’t mind taking off your shoes.

It was my first time here, and I must say it didn’t disappoint. Came here on a Saturday night with family, and the staff was super friendly. The décor and atmosphere were quite awesome, and it wasn’t too loud. The food was good(the sashimi was fresh!), and the drinks were delicious! I would recommend the pomegranate martini :) In terms of rolls, anything with the spicy crab was quite yummy.

I highly recommend this restaurant! I have been here a few times and have been impressed every time. I recommend the house special roll. Their service is a lot faster than all the restaurants around the area so if you’re looking for a fast service and excellent food, come here

Sapporo has recently been placed under new ownership but the restaurant is in the same spot in Wantagh. I’ve been going here for quite some time with my family and we have always had a nice time here. The staff is always friendly and accomodating and the scenery is nice. I miss the big fish tank in the wall that had the beautiful goldfish, but it’s very soothing in there. They actually play japanese melodies in the background. The seating is either at the sushi bar, at a table or in the booth(you have to take off your shoes though). In regards to the food, they have a great lunch. I usually stick to the bento box with beef negimaki, veggie tempura, chicken teriyaki(comes with 4 california roll, fresh fruit, rice, salad, and soup.) Obviously this is so much so I usually take some home. I believe it’s around $ 9 – 12 depending on what you order, and it’s a lot! My mother usually gets the maki roll or spicy tuna/spicy salmon roll. She says it’s great. They also give you hot hand towels and green tea, which is delicious. Overall a bit pricey but you get good food for the price. It’s a very tanquil place to visit and I am never dissapointed.

Heard from friends that Sapporo was under new management and decided to try it out. I’ve been here a couple of times already and every time has been fabulous. The décor is very welcoming, with table seating in the middle of the restaurant, individual booths to the right, and an intimate traditional Japanese tatami room to the left that’s perfect for large groups and hosting parties. There is also an open sushi prep area towards the back of the restaurant where the customers can see chefs making their sushi while they dine. It’s very cool. The food, of course, is amazing. Their sashimi is always fresh and they have a large selection of specialty rolls. My favorites are the House Special Roll and the Rainbow Spicy Tuna. If you order a lot of rolls/sashimi at once, the chefs arrange all the rolls on a big platter and it just looks beautiful and makes you feel like you’re having this delicious feast(which, you are). Their non-sushi dishes are also great, especially their udon noodles. The waitstaff is very friendly and helpful. Oh, and their drinks are amazing, especially the Lychee Martini and A Captain’s Dream. But be careful, they pack quite a punch. Overall, it’s a great place to dine at if you want amazing sushi(and drinks!) and great service at a great price. It’s one of my favorite restaurants and it’s definitely worth trying out(if you haven’t already) and coming back to over and over again.

Came here on a Thursday night with my coworkers. The place has a nice amount of customers but not overly crowed. I ordered a Volcano roll, which is an inside-out spider crab roll that’s deep fried, and topped with chucks of spicy tuna and avocado in a special sauce. We also ordered the sashimi for two, which came on a large plate full of 4 – 5 different kinds of fish and beautifully presented. The fish was very fresh and cut into large, thick slices. The food was in big portions and tastes as good as it looks on the plate. They also have different kinds of sake(warm or cold), plum wines,…etc. The wait staff is very friendly(The waitress named Mandy is very helpful). I am also impressed by the authentic japanese tatami room, separate from the main dining room, which is great for hosting parties. Overall it’s a wonderful experience and I would love to take my husband to come here too.

Good local sushi joint and always fresh. Nothing too crazy where it would compare to Koto or Aji 53 but it is by no means a place to pass by. Especially for the local choices it comes out on top. Give it a try it’s actually pretty good.

This place suuuuuuuuuuucks! Before coming here ive never had a bad miso soup in my life– it was an overly salty mess. The server– oh my god. We put our order in and she goes«hold on– this is what im you’re going to get — athena box come with soup and salad– you have soup(pointing to me) & you have salad(pointing to my husband)» and then walks away. Meanwhile we both ordered miso and 0 salads. Then when our sushi came she put it down and said she would go get the soy sauce dish when she«had a minute». so we sat there for about 5 minutes waiting for the dishes and when she came back she asked all insulted«why havent you eat. whats wrong with it» Well bitch! i cant eat sushi without soy sauce. Man this place truly sucks. I will never be back.

well folks, I’ll start off by saying, I’d like to give this place 3.5 stars, not quite 3 or not quite 4. I’ve been going here randomly for years, sometimes meeting for lunch, or other times at dinner with buddies. With that said, Sapporo has a couple of make rolls that are quite good, the Mt. Fuji roll, the volcano roll and some custom rolls that I typically will ask them to make(i.e. spicy scallop naruto, sashimi hand rolls etc). I love the non-pretentious japanese style booths that they have and the food, price and location are good, it’s right off the wantagh pkwy on merrick road. It’s not the best sushi on LI but it isn’t the worst either and has yet to disappoint! the service is a bit slower than i’d like for lunch time, but they are almost always efficient and very nice to deal with!

This has been around the corner from my home for 20 years… and until just recently, I’ve never been there. Word on the street was that it is THE place for sushi but my upbringing didn’t really encourage eating anything raw or even medium rare, so I’d always just walked by it. I’ve visited more than a few times since I’ve crossed into unchartered O. family waters and what I’ve learned is — word on the street has legs. My only complaint would be that the sushi rolls are too big. This factoid makes me think it’s been americanized. I did put the entire sushi into my mouth like a good sushi-eater, but it was a struggle and I felt like a little kid who doesn’t know any better. (note: I may have ordered futomaki, which are, by definition, large rolls) Not only big in bite size, but portions are huge as well. A combination platter is way too big for one. We did it. But my stomach was solid raw and tempura by the end. Prices were fair enough. $ 15 – 25 for combination plates. $ 6 – 12 for rolls. $ 2 – 6 for pieces. For lunch specials, I would happily expect to pay $ 6 – 8. The chefs are very competent and would rank near the top with any traditional sushi chef. Too bad this volcano has no need to erupt. The atmosphere is a little sad, too many combination B’s and not enough bar space. The chef perked right up when I asked for omakase. It’s like 1000 years of rust was taken off this man’s sushi sword. Maybe it gets bustling, but I just haven’t seen it. I hope so. These warriors need to flex. And, just to remind me that I was still in South Shore Long Island, the middle of our dinner was interrupted when a rough man with his large family uttered«279 dollars for dinner??! We should have just ordered in Chinese.» It’s good to know where you came from.
