The Smorgasbar was a great addition to Jones Beach this summer. It was built were the old catering hall was located. The Smorgasbar offered some great food selections, such Fleischer’s Farmstand. Fleischer’s offered some great smoked meat sandwiches, sausages and bbq pork sandwiches. Next to Fleischer’s, was a small bar serving craft beer. The beer choices were great and included some local beer from Greenport Brewery. Next to the beer shack, you could order fresh oysters. The oysters were shucked fresh and taste good. The next shack offered a fish fry. This was one of my favorites. For $ 10 dollars I was given 3 huge pieces of fried fish and chips. It was a huge serving and it taste good! At the last window, you could buy nachos. The nachos were my least favorite and it was a very small serving for $ 9. I didn’t get to try the pizza spot. All in all a good addition to Jones Beach. I hope they come back next year!

This is a great idea for Jones beach! I love the location, the tables set up, the couches, the ping pong tabless, etc. I only wish there was more food to choose from. Prices are insane… as expected. long Island prices are bad enough, but now it looks like overrated Brooklyn prices are coming our way! I ordered from the Mexican stand and(forget the name) had two of the worst, and most overpriced tacos of my life. $ 14 for two tacos… no joke… it was $ 3 to add cheese to them, ha! I strongly disliked the two tortillas used to hold 1 taco. The taste really bothered me. And the flavor was nothing great at all. I did not add guacamole because that would have been an addition $ 3, and I was not about to pay $ 17 for tiny tacos. I would love to try some of the other places next time!

I wanted to love Smorgasbar — I mean what a great idea. But, we had an order of the nachos with guacamole and it was not very good plus it cost $ 10. I came back twice on the same Saturday to get a pulled pork sandwich and both times the meat was«not ready» and they asked me to come back in 20 — 30 minutes. I find that an unacceptable way to do business. I’m really disappointed.

I was amazed of the food stands and wish I stopped by earlier so I didn’t have to waste a lot of money at the food court area near the parking lot. I ordered All Fish at Handsome Hank’s Fish Hut( ) for 11 bucks. You get what you pay for! I also ordered a light beer at Brooklyn Oyster Party. Good thing, there are a lot of seats on the sand as well as underneath the white tent. Definitely check out the Smorgasbar!

I have never been more excited to go to the beach than when I found out they opened a smorgasbar here. Not a smorgasburg but the smorgasbar– that means a few handpicked stalls to rival the concession stands that currently serve food to the masses at Jones Beach. This is the first summer season that they are there so they are still slightly less crowded. They are located in a small sunken plaza adjacent to the regular concession stands in field 4 by the large flag pole. They have their own seating plaza with comfy couches and beach tables as well as a covered area under the tent. They also have a small pingpong table but not sure where you get the paddles and balls to play and most of the time they are pumping out soothing ska music like sublime or OAR or something like that. Handsome Hanks have the best tasting fish and chips I have ever had in my life. Okay maybe just the fish the chips part was okay but I am almost reluctant to tell you about this place since it has the longest line and waiting time. Clocking in at about 20 minutes for my food. But it was worth it. The fish came with several very large filet pieces breaded in a yummy blend of spices and herbs and topped with fresh cilantro. Nothing like fish and chips at the beach. The chips/fries were crispy on the outside and mealy on the inside but go well with the fish. Dont forget to get your sauces. They serve them from these hanging containers that make you feel like you are milking a cow for tartar sauce and ketchup. They also have hot sauce and vinegar but you don’t really need it cuz the fish is so good. But they do seem to operate on island time since it takes a long time to make the food possibly because they are understaffed. Also they have the cheapest fries $ 3 more affordable than the regular concession stand. I was also able to get a smoked beef brat from fleischer’s farmstand. The girl working there is very pleasant. The brat was a good size and the toppings are interchangeable as I requested the sweet peppers that go with their italian sausage instead of grilled onions. They also brought out a lovely looking roasted chicken as I was there. They also have blue sky sodas and mcclure’s potato chips to go with your sausages. It was a little expensive since it doesnt automatically come with a side but the sausage came with a thick slice of bread that was very filling. Kelvin slush is also there but they only have the arnold palmer half iced tea half lemonade. I usually like their fruity tea blend slushies but there was only this one. It is only worth it to get it with alcohol the popular mix-in that day was the meyer’s rum but they also have vodka and jack daniels and other alcohol you can mix it with. Or you can just order the beer at the adjoining bar. The other stands offer nachos with a bunch of savory toppings, a taco stand with only two types chicken or fish, large cones of hand cut fries with many sauce and flavor toppings, freshly shucked local oysters and fire roasted pizzas. now if only they would open a ramen burger here then it would become a perfect day on the beach!

It’s going to be very interesting to see how this takes in Long Island. I’m just happy to see this here, good food is getting hard to find in these parts — and there is nothing wrong with good food. This definitely makes it a place I could come and hang out at with friends. Prices are high, yeah, but that’s what you get on the boardwalk — and it’s much better than any food I’ve had on the boardwalk… ever.
