Is there anything more terrifying than handing over clothing to a complete stranger to have said clothing altered and/or cleaned?[1] Maybe it’s just me, but there’s always a bit of apprehension that catches in my chest when I hand over my clothes, and the apprehension stays there until I get them back exactly like I wanted. There’s an understanding that the tailor could very well destroy this item that I cherish dearly(but wish would fit just slightly better so I could cherish it even more dearly). Robert’s Tailor Shop hasn’t rid me of those negative feelings, but they haven’t messed anything up either(so far), so really it’s a personal issue at this point. I’ve been there numerous times(okay, more like four times) and each time, I’ve received my dress slacks, suits, and more dress slacks altered exactly as requested. Customer service is fine, but the lady is pretty quiet. She’s certainly friendly and won’t mistreat you in any way, but she isn’t a talker. Also, she will take you literally in your requests. Tailors aren’t like barbers. They won’t take your stupid requests and try to make sense of them and provide you with something you wanted but didn’t communicate properly. Tailors will instead clarify your request, and then they’ll say, «Okay, you asked for it.» So know what you want. And clarify everything. Everything. Ev-Airy-Thing. Leave absolutely no room for mixed messages, crossed signals, miscommunications, lost-in-translations, etc. Sure, you could always get mad at them if they mess up, but that doesn’t un-mess up what happened so prevent the mess up to begin with. For example, if you’re having dress slacks altered, bring the shoes you’re going to be wearing with those slacks. From what I can tell, Robert is actually no longer the one who works there. He altered my suit once, many years ago, but a young lady has taken over for Robert in recent years. She has altered a few of my slacks since Robert left. I don’t know if Robert just decided to walk away from the business, or maybe he got sick? He was a slightly older gentleman. I miss him. I don’t even know if his name was Robert, to be honest… That’s neither here nor there. Prices are fine. Not cheap, but not expensive. Just«ehh.» I have a suit(three in fact) that I need to have altered, and I’m kind of holding on to them with fear and trembling because… Well even with the good experiences I’ve had with Robert’s Tailor Shop, I’m still scurred! Maybe a few more trips will take care of that. Or I have to live with this self-imposed prison. Or I need to learn how to sew… [1]Note: Yes, I’m aware that there are more terrifying things: Serial killers, losing your child in the mall, genocide, finding out you have a terminal illness, running out of gas while being in the super sketchy part of Philadelphia(or Camden, NJ), seeing the calorie contents of food from Outback Steakhouse, etc.

My first time using this shop is the last time I’ll ever visit it. I’m glad Shane had a good experience because mine was so bad I don’t know how they’re still in business. It wasn’t horrific when you consider some other horror stories of other places, but the timing of everything made what happened that much worse. I had to get my mother of the bride dress altered. I tried it on, she measured this and that and pinned it. Okay, then she said it wouldn’t be ready till Saturday, I needed it Friday. She then agreed to Friday. The estimate is $ 50.00 for this alteration which blew my mind. I had no idea it would be so high. I then figured, maybe it was because of the fabric and was anticipating it to be hand sewn. I know how long it takes to hem/alter a dress by machine — it takes no time at all. Anyway, I come back at the time specified and try it on and it’s messed up. The outer lining which was very sheer is at least an inch shorter than the inside layer/lining. I couldn’t believe it and by the lady’s face she couldn’t either. I will say that she was very apologetic and asked me to come back in half an hour.(What took 3 days previously can now be done in a half an hour?) Okay. I wanted to be out of town by Friday evening, it was because of them I had to wait around in the first place and now this put my schedule back even further. I go back in and it fits. I pay and half expect her to take a little off the check because of their goof up but no. They have the gall to ask for the full amount and then I find out that it is in fact machine stitched. I am livid with this store and will never go back and thank god there are so many other stores in this city to choose from. I actually blame Shane for this, too. It was his GLOWING recommendation that got my attention in the first place that completely mislead me. I hope his high end Armani falls into the toilet.

THISSHOPISAWESOME!!! I live in lawton and purchased a high end suit online needed some alterations. I first took it to lawton on the advice of a suit shop there and WOW what a big mistake. They messed up my armani suit and it looked HORRIBLE! So I called MR ooley’s who is the high end suit shop in Penn Square mall. They advised me that Roberts tailor shop does there work so I called them and it was last minute. Friday night called they are open saturday 9 – 4 and not at all on sunday. I explained the situation to this lady that worked there about this shop messing up my suit and I leave on business monday. We dropped suit off on saturday and this women worked on the suit saturday and sunday when they weren’t even open. She took the suit home and met us at the shop sunday so we could pickup the suit. You just don’t get service like this anymore. She fixed my suit the jacket looks and feels great. What a life saver! She knew everything about high dollar suits and the shop that messed it up actually sewed my arms on the jacket with a machine instead of by hand. It actually takes 2 or 3 hrs per arm to sew these suits and make alterations on the arms by hand.
