I love this store. Honestly, if I could, I would buy practically everything in the store. It’s filled with the most interesting, fun gifts, and what I love is that there is so much made from local vendors. The Wooden Midshipman holds everything from baby onesies to cookbooks to doormats. But don’t get me wrong, it’s definitely not a cheesy gift shop! It is unique and full of beautiful items. Go here to get that perfect, thoughtful gift!

The Wooden Midshipman is the perfect little shop if you need to grab one last little gift for someone. Great greeting cards, interesting books(fiction, cookbooks, gardening and more) and they’ve got lots of items from local vendors. Whether you need something for the home, the kitchen or a personal accessory there is much to choose from here. It’s a small shop with lots packed in so be sure to do a few rounds to make sure you didn’t miss anything. Favorite items spotted recently: *Cuppow Mason Jar Lids and locally made Mason Jar Cozies *Ceramic Candle Sticks that looked like pewter *Every single cookbook they had!

This small storefront is tucked on a side street in Warren. I stumbled on it one day and am hooked. There are many unique gift items by local artisans. My favorite purchase is a Home tee depicting Rhode Island. Books ranging from children’s to cookbooks and a variety of authors and titles. Soaps, lotions, snack mixes are all carefully and intentionally selection. The shop is arranged with attention to detail and the shop owner’s cat can be found lazing about as you browse.

What a great store! A store on my bucket list and I finally got to stop today :) Filled with amazing treasures and gifts that all will love. I picked up some rosemary flavored honey with the neatest wooden spreading knife — great gift! Don’t miss this great shop!

The Wooden Midshipman rocks my world! Here are some things I’ve bought there: — A sweet shirt with a creepy rabbit screen printed on it. — A flower necklace that I get millions of compliments on. — Knit fingerless gloves. — A vintage-y locket necklace. — I think that’s it. Anyway, the stuff is mostly locally made and definitely selected with care by the awesome owner, Katie. Cozy space in a great part of Warren. Another reviewer cautioned to not go with something in mind, which is mostly true, but you can definitely count on there being cool, original gifts.

This is a nice little gift shop, but I have never found anything there I wanted. The merchandise is eclectic — a little of this and a little of that; but because the selection is small, you may not find what you are looking for. Indeed, you shouldn’t go there looking for anything in particular; just go to look at the nice stuff and see if there is anything you want. I suspect that the proprietor intended to open a store that contained all her favorite items, and there’s certainly nothing wrong with that. But in order to find things there that you like, your taste must be similar to hers. You’ll do best if you have a nice home and you are simply looking for nice things to go into your home. My home is more like an office, which is perhaps why I haven’t found anything there I want.

Kristen’s review was dead on. I went to the Wooden Midshipman to read and tell stories just before Halloween, and I was knocked out by the store. All sorts of cool stuff. It’s a curated store, which means that every item is carefully chosen and selected. The cook books ranged from Julia to MFK Fisher! The jewelry was fun, funny and tasteful. And Katie is a born shopkeeper. She lights up when a customer enters, gives them plenty of space if they like, or will talk about whatever comes up. I know we’re heading into Winter, but when summer comes, be sure to check out the back garden… Excellent.

I wouldn’t call it small. Small might be misconstrued as negative. Instead, this gift shop is cozy. I’ll liken it to walking into a friend’s living room who prefers to display their things artfully then sell them to you. Katie, the owner, is warm and inviting and easily strikes up a conversation with you about the rarity of stocking the complete set of Anne of Green Gables books(she’s got them!) and modestly shrugs off her recent nod from RI Monthly as best new gift shop. And she’s a remember-er, you know, remembers people when they return! Love that! To give you a sample of her fares or to give you a sample of what I like to buy or would like to buy there, here is a little list: 1. Books! She uses them in a neat-o way. Only one copy displayed and a limited selection. She’s definitely read them and can give you their run down. A beautiful copy of The Hobbit I am JONESIN’ for! Cookbooks, Hemingway, Sedaris, Gaiman, Austen, and Nora Roberts… it’s all here! A GREAT selection of children’s books too. If only I knew some kids… 2. Jewelry. I bought a necklace there for $ 9. Yup. $ 9. Wore it to a wedding and had so many compliments from these super-fashionable NYC people. It felt great. I of course confessed that it was a $ 9 necklace, but seriously people. Get in there and get yourself some unique $ 9 jewelry. 3. Screen-printed T-shirts. Love mine with the whale on it. Soft cotton, nice fit, cute design. 4. Miscellany: Gardening stuff! Beer bottle opener in the shape of a mermaid! Wooden iPhone case! Local photography! Scarves! Frames! Body scrubs, salts! Local pottery! Here’s the scoop: there is nothing from this store that I wouldn’t want and love as a gift. There has never been a time that I had needed a present for someone and the WM hasn’t come through, no matter what my bank statement said that day.
