That boy was never right in the head Crazy Walter died today. He was our very special cat. He was about 18 years old and he first found us when he was only 6 months old. He was part of our family for a long time. A friend that owns a garage noticed this small, wild looking kitten foraging about a dump near his business. He took pity on the little guy and started feeding him. Since the man’s name was Walter everyone at first called him Walter’s cat. But soon it become apparent that this was one crazy little guy so his name quickly changed to Crazy Walter. As soon as we saw CW we fell in love with him. He became acclimated to our house and other cats quickly but never lost his feral and crazy nature. He would sit on our laps and purr and cuddle with us but then suddenly bolt away for no reason. My wife said he was like a light switch. Full on or full off. Never in the middle. Crazy Walter quickly made it clear to the other cats that he was the alpha male. He wasn’t really a bully but would tolerate no insubordination even from the much younger and larger Puddin Head. Puddin Head had to learn this the hard way. Walter was our cat and our cat only and would let no other human near him. Even friends that have been over our house many times have never even seen him. Incredible stealthy and quiet. An apparition that would only be seen when he wanted to be seen. Walter wasn’t a pet, he was part of the family and his death will be mourned and his life celebrated the same as any other family member. He went quickly, looked death right in the eyes and did not blink. He was active and head butting and rubbing up against me till the final end. He definitely was not the type to go quietly into the night. Now he is gone but he had a long, happy and active life. He was loved and gave back love in return. That’s all any sentient creature can ask for. He always lived without compromise and on his own terms. I hope they can say that about me when it’s my time to leave. Crazy Walter will be deeply missed.
