1201 Hair Salon

I came into 1201 Salon with a BIG request… I wanted to turn my dark brown hair into silver. The salon’s owner, Nadia, and her entire team worked together to try and bring my vision to life. While we weren’t quite successful on the first attempt, we kept at it and eventually we got there. I’d like to thank everyone at 1201 Salon for being a part of this slightly off-​the-​beaten-​path adventure!

Call 1201 and book an appointment with Meghan! She cut my hair for four years, and would still be doing so if I hadn’t moved out of state. She was very attentive and always understood the look I was going for. When I colored my hair for the first time, Meghan helped me understand different options (permanent, demi permanent, balayage, etc.) and the finished product looked great! I highly recommend Meghan and the whole team at 1201. You will not be disappointed!
P. S. Meghan accepts credit cards, but make sure you bring cash for tip!

James Chow is the best. He gives a terrific hair cut and the salon he works in is charming and the people working there lovely. I highly recommend him and the salon.

I was traveling from Hong Kong, this is my first time to do my hair cutting in America. The hair stylist, James Chow who is very caring and concerning for me. I am so glad to meet him for my new look! He’s great!

I had an appointment with Nadia, who is the owner of the charming establishment. Everyone who works here was really nice and laid back — the first time I’ve been so comfortable in a salon I’ve thought «This is totally where I’m coming from now on.» She did an excellent job on a cut and color, and did a blow-​out that my boyfriend loved. She’s very easy to talk to, was attentive to what I wanted, and made personalized suggestions on what to do/​use. This will definitely be my new go-​to place! Bonus that the staff is multicultural and the owner is a minority woman :)

I just made my first visit to 1201 Salon this spring. It’s a very cute and comfortable salon, and the stylists are friendly and warm.
I see Mora (and have for the last six years) for thermal straightening. She’s a very funny, laid-​back stylist but is meticulous when it comes to the straightening process, which is very time-​consuming. She always patiently listens to my concerns and customizes the strength of the chemicals for different areas of my hair. My hair always looks and feels great. I drive 2 hours one-​way to see her every year, and it’s worth the effort. Also, her prices are very fair compared to other local salons.

1201 Hair Salon is great! From the time you enter you’re immediately greeted and made to feel welcome. The stylists are all very nice but most importantly VERY skilled.
My favorite is Shon! Shon can handle any type of hair from fine to course, from long to short. My hair always looks amazing! My hair has no chemicals and is very tough to deal with but she is very good at taming it and make it look nice and smooth.
It also helps that the ambiance is very nice. Beautifully decorated and just has a nice vibe. Very happy with this place!

This review is for Maura, who is the BEST person in the DC area doing Japanese hair straightening. I found Maura 4 years ago when I first thought about doing Japanese straightening. I was very nervous –I’ve got long hair that is naturally very frizzy/​curly (if you cut it, I’d have the classic Jew-​fro). I’ve also been coloring it for years, and was concerned how the process might hurt the color and the hair. When I found Maura (by sheer luck) she was at Piaf’s salon. She met with me for a long and extremely kind consultation that reassured me that she really knew her craft. Since then I’ve seen her every six months, following her from Piaf’s to Rafik’s in Georgetown, and now to 1201 (which is lovely, btw). My hair is great — healthy, straight, easy to manage, shiny etc. Maura is simply a pro and I will follow her wherever she goes. I hear stories of bad straightening experiences, and invariably it involves people going to stylists who don’t have experience. I just don’t get why anyone would do that. If you are thinking of straightening, I can’t recommend Maura strongly enough. She is the hair doctor (I’m not the only person who calls her that). You can reach her for a consultation at 202−255−5485 (I asked her before including her number). You won’t regret it.

I love this salon. I discovered it when a stylist I liked moved here, and I’ve been nothing but impressed since. It’s very accessible from my office, so it’s perfect for lunchtime appointments, and everyone in the salon is very friendly, including the salon dog. :-)
Israel is awesome, he just gave me a fantastic cut and worked well with my curly hair. As an added bonus, I get it blown out for something different, and I’ve never gotten more compliments on a blow out than I have when Israel has done it.
Very pleased with this salon and I highly recommend it.

Great spot tucked away — love my cut and highlights! Plus, there are a couple of free parking spaces out front if you are lucky — at my previous salon, I used to have to run out and add $ to my meter, but here I was able to relax and just enjoy myself.
