Horrible Customer service will NEVER come here again and you shouldn’t as well. Was served a drink and then was bombarded with crazy people trying to tell us that we had to finish it because the bartender wasn’t supposed to sell it… whose fault is that mine or yours? I spent my money and would like to have time to finish my drink. They tell us you have to throw is back quickly or give us the drink… so you want me to give you the drink back and NOT want to give us our money back? Craziness. So yeah they had all the«owners» and fake security come and be so disrespectful, saying they were going to call the cops, etc to say we had to give the drink back but they still wouldn’t give us our money back until we refused to leave. Very RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL people running this spot. Also the drinks are over priced and the décor looks like it’s someone’s grandmothers hand me downs. There are other spots on U St worth your money this is definitely NOT one of them! Stay Away!

Worth a visit if you’re nearby, but nothing to go out of your way for. I came for a late weekday brunch — somewhere around 1:30 on a Friday — so it is probably much quieter than usual. But the layout is conducive to enjoying one’s reasonably priced food and generous tea leisurely, alone or making polite conversation. Larger groups would likely want to bring the furniture much closer together(or raise their voices and hold their plates in their laps), but for drinking and general chatter it’s perfectly adequate. Comfortable seating goes a long way to aid that, and the location steps away from the U St metro certainly won’t hurt for a quick meetup. Having only had an egg and cheese sandwich on a bagel(which could have been more aggressively toasted), and the accompanying home fries(the caramelized onions and fresh herbs compliment the salinity well), I can’t write much on the food itself. The bar is stocked with a range of respectable, if not exciting, staples.

I title my review: Cramped. Chaotic. but Chummy. This location has a strange pull on my social soul. I keep coming back for more torture. When this place was Indulj I had two unfortunate trips and I promised to never come back after each experience – I DIDNTLISTEN! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I figured hey new management, new year, new service. Right? WRONG So I came to hear The Fix a popular local cover band that so far is the only band I know to cover Bobby Brown songs. TendeRoni, 90s RnB=INHEAVEN. Hell I follow them to Purgatory just to hear them play(kidding God) Anyway we arrive around 10:58 doors opened at 10. We already knew it was going to be crowded but it was raining and we just spent an hour searching for parking. Really wish they had valet! So we get inside to a cloisterf*(% Theyve removed the tables and installed oversized coffee shop style lounge chairs… So now theres even less seating. I understand this is normally a coffee shop by day. But if you are going to invite The Fix to play you need to be in lounge/club mode. It was waaaaay too crowded. The Bouncer had no standards in letting people in, there was this one lil hoodlu – (oo thats rude isnt it?) – ok this one man with his pants waaay low to his kneecaps. People smoking weed(which I dont mind but cmon). Someone dressed as Broman from Martin. It was like a circus! Well Drinks were 9, specialty drinks 12. There was no cover. The food I saw coming out of the kitchen looked bare. Like a plate of fries with ketchup. How original! Oddly enough though if the crowd was managed I wouldnt mind the scene and I would come back but… I will not be back. – I SWEAR!!!

So after this place opened up(Formerly Indulj) I was expecting to walk in to a posh or upscale lounge… all they did was paint the wall and remove all the tables and put in a bunch of couches… extremely underwhelming«make over» .only got a 2 cuz The Fixx was playing.(LOVETHEM)

I came to Amsterdam Café randomly for a bottomless Thanksgiving weekend brunch event. For those of you familiar with the old Indulj Lounge on U street, this is the same spot just rebranded and with new ownership. The place looks very much the same as the other place. Nothing really to brag about except that they do have a decent brunch. The food is just OK. I think you come here just to be seen and to kick-it with folks. Its your normal dive bar. You can do hookah but service is really slow. There is also a nice patio for folks to lounge out on as well. Best of all there is no cover. How can you complain about that?
