I stayed at Asante Sana after reading all the great reviews. It was a disappointing experience. I stayed in the room with the«private staircase» to the private bathroom. What wasn’t made clear is that after descending the stairs to the first floor, you must walk through the kitchen to get to the bathroom. The bathroom is tiny. It is a sink/shower/toilet combo with a drain in the middle of the floor. When you take a shower, the toilet(and anything you may have placed there) gets soaked. Some reviewers said they received a «basket of food;» we did not get any food. There was a coffee maker and coffee in the kitchen, but no milk, only powdered non-dairy creamer. Even though the parking was free(a big plus) for $ 125 before taxes, I felt this was an overpriced accommodation.

I would return to Washing D.C. just to be able to stay here! The location is fantastic, walking distance to many awesome restaurants and stores, and the night life on U street is so much fun. Getting down to the national mall was just a matter for getting on a bus. The room was so clean and comfortable, and the owner is extremely nice. I highly recommend staying here rather than a chain hotel. It was a great place to relax! I will come back again!

Extremely nice, clean and convenient. Very easy to make reservation. Reasonably rated for a pricy area. very quiet, despite a bar around the corner. Super gorgeous block. The rooms were elegant with high end fixtures. The floor joists could use tightening. Too many creaky floors even for an old house(i owned one). The piano room could be turned into something else… with a fire place? No one plays it and its off key. Everything else was fantastic. We will be back. Soccer fans can join sunday players in park across the street. Good for any age group guests. We ranged from child to mid age. Artist to historian to medical professional..

We stayed here in the beginning of October, 2011 in the DuBois room. We had a wonderful stay. They are upfront that this isn’t a Bed and Breakfast, but a Bed and Basket. It’s nice if you want a relaxing, comfortable place to stay and want to pack/make your own food. There’s a grocery store nearby and a lot of other shops. Metro is a 5 minute walk. We only had one issue with water one night, but the owners fixed it w/in 5 minutes. Great place!

This is a Bed and Breakfast that doesn’t make you get up at dawn to eat! Asante Sana gives you an overflowing basket of food that you can eat whenever you want to. I love the charm of B&B’s but when I am having a weekend get away, I want to sleep in! It’s walking distance to a lot of stores and restaurants. The bathroom in the Lighthouse suite is very appealing. The shower is in a granite type covering and the hot water pressure is like a massage. Depending on occupancy, guests can use the full kitchen, plus their own kitchenette. It’s a winner for those who don’t want innkeepers hovering over them, but want a clean, deluxe, and comfy place to stay. Almost forgot, the fireplace in the common area living room is a nice treat on the cold nights. Drawbacks: Not completely finished. Construction is around many areas. No on-site staffing. Pre-paid reservations are always limiting and leave no room for schedule changes. No high quality linens or furnishings. Very basic stuff that you’d probably have at home. No on-site food service
