Coffee is good. Service was great. Carrot cake cupcake was phenomenal. Enough said, I will be coming back again.

Stop #2 on Indie Coffee Passport! If you’re not familiar, there is a program called DC «Indie Coffee Passport» that allows you to pay a flat $ 20 and go to a series of local coffee shops, sample 1 drink for a selected menu, and get a stamp. Really cool, right? Well Bake House was on the list so here the adventure continues. The Space: A little pocket shop off 14th street with good quality drinks. Cordo: High quality espresso with a shot of whole milk. Tastes great and really satisfied my pallet. Great to keep in mind for the 14th Street Corridor if you’re into Espresso.

A coworker and I went to bakehouse today to pick up some cookies for the rest of our team. We went around 4PM and got a couple of peanut butter nutella cookies and some of the banana vegan cookies. Granted, we went around 4PM when I’m sure not the freshest products are left but everything was incredibly stale. We still ate it all because the flavors were delicious(definitely recommend the vegan cookie!) but it really took away from the experience. If you’re paying for a product from a bakery you would assume that they would have a better system to keep their baked goods in better shape throughout the day. If I were to go back it would definitely be earlier in the day.

I must say I was a bit disappointed with my visit. I was expecting a lot because of the reviews and the store looks so welcoming and cute. I was recommended to try one of their biscuits which was a little too dense and a little too dry for me. Also their customer service wasn’t the friendliest(maybe they were having a bad day?). I really want to believe that I just tried the wrong thing and maybe caught them on a bad day.

FANTASTIC bakery. I’ve ordered from them twice now for office birthdays — each cake has been delicious and beautiful! The service is helpful and friendly, and I love that they deliver our cakes! I really look forward to getting many more cakes from here in the future!

I use to frequent here a lot. Had the best service ever. Well, went one morning for breakfast, not so much the best service. No one was in line, and I was deciding if I wanted a pastry with my coffee, and I felt rushed. And I should have told them to keep their 4 dollar ice coffee as well, that want that great at all. Needless to say, I haven’t been back and don’t plan on it. I guess if I was a regular like the person that was in front I would have gotten better service.

Nice bakery near U Street that is open relatively late if you want to stop in for a dessert. Good coffee, but the draw is the baked goodies(obviously, based on the name). Prices are a little higher than similar places, but there is a really broad selection of yummy treats. I had a dark chocolate brownie ice cream sundae. The brownie was so yummy, but for the sundae they only give you half a brownie! I’d love to come back and try the scrumptious looking cakes.

As a connoisseur of all bakeries, I knew I had to check this place out. On a scorching hot day, the air conditioning and quaint atmosphere of Bake House was a relief. The décor makes you feel at home, and the staff is extremely friendly. I ordered a scone and a 5 spice sugar cookie to go. The prices are reasonable, and I appreciated the size of the baked goods. As for the scone, it was okay. It was a bit dry for my taste, but I know that’s how many prefer their scones. I didn’t try the accompanying jam, as I did not like the smell of it. The cookie was phenomenal. I love a big cookie, and few people can make a soft sugar cookie well. I enjoyed the hint of 5 spice, and I would happily eat more and more of these cookies. Overall, I’ll be back.

I popped in for the first time last week for a late lunch. I had a black tea(they were out of soy, so no chai for me), and appreciated the fact that brewed tea was kept chilled in the fridge. There’s nothing worse than watering down hot tea with ice. I also tried the veggie sandwich, since it seemed to be the quickest vegan option. While the sandwich itself was delicious, the bread was a bit soggy. However, this could simply be because I came by in the afternoon and the sandwich was already prepared. The guy at the counter was so friendly and sweet, and I’d certainly return if I knew he’d be working again! Not sure of his name, but he’s from California. He’s an example of what a great barista ought to be like.

I’ve been wanting to try BakeHouse for a while, and since the hubs and I were in the area, we made a quick pit-stop. This neighborhood coffee shop and bakery is owned by a husband-and-wife team and offers muffins, scones, biscuits, brioche rolls, loaf slices, cookies, cakes, sandwich cookies, brownies, and even ice cream sandwiches. For those who are not in the mood for sweets, they offer breakfast and lunch sandwiches and cold/hot beverages(coffee and tea). I tried the following: Blueberry Buttermilk Muffin(has a sugary top, but it was a little dry and less blueberry-ish for me); a Carmelita(a chocolate/caramel/oats bar that is gooey); an English Scone(one of the best scones I’ve had, this had a nice sugary top and was not in the last dry, but moist and slightly sweet; it came with a side of butter and jam); a Strawberry White Chocolate Cookie(extremely large-sized, this had a nice amount of white chocolate morsels and bits of strawberries within); a Vanilla Bean Brulee lollipop; a slice of bacon and cheese quiche(heated; more on the very light and fluffy consistency); and, a Bacon Gruyère Biscuit(had some bits of bacon within, and a little bit of cheese). They had some seasonal beverages, but were out of the strawberry, so I was unable to try their Strawberry Mint Tea or the Strawberry Italian soda T____T A very cute and bright place with some counter seating and some tables, I loved the décor with the mini plants, the white marker drawings by the entrance, and even housemade PB pup biscuits: D Service was super friendly and oh-so-sweet. I definitely want to come back and try out their coffee and teas, as well as their ice cream sandwiches: D +English Scone(with butter and jam) :D +Strawberry White chocolate Cookie: D +housemade pup treats: D +friendly staff: D +restricted permit parking along T St

This place has great food and is in a great location. I work very close by and would love to come in here everyday, however, there is one employee that works there all the time and is ALWAYS rude. She acts as if you are bothering her when you order food or ask a clarifying question. She also appears to be rude to her fellow co workers as she barks at them like they are stupid and incompetent. She seems to hate her job and hate people. Life can be difficult, and sometimes you have a bad day, but if you work in customer service you need to at least learn how to fake being a decent human being to others. One star because every time I have been there my experience has been ruined. ps. The Californian sandwich is amazing tho

When I am craving some dessert Unilocal helps me out and brought me here! Food — I went for savory and really enjoyed their bacon & cheese quiche($ 6). Occasionally they’ll have another flavor like spinach & feda. If I come back again I’ll have to try their chai cookie sandwich… it looked pretty delightful. Ambiance — It’s small but clean and cute. It will be fun too if you have two guys next to you who are on a Tinder date ;). P. S. Wifi password: caramelsauce :)

This place has the best iced coffee I’ve had maybe in my life. They make their ice cubes out of coffee so it never gets watered down even when the ice melts. The coffee is strong and has a slightly chocolatey taste to it. The people behind the counter are friendly and move fairly quickly. The store also has a lot of pre-baked pastry and bakery options available that looked pretty good but I haven’t tried them yet. I’ll be looking forward to getting a bit more exposure to what they have to offer.

I tried the hot chocolate and it did not disappoint! I consider myself somewhat of a hot chocolate connoisseur. It was thick, rich, and flavorful. Full of chocolate, yet, more of milk chocolate when comparing it to my favorite, which is Pitango(tastes like a bar of semi-sweet chocolate). However, my experience this time was upsetting. The gentleman serving didn’t correct the price of the tea when he put it in as latte, and then corrected that it was a plain tea. I didn’t want to make a scene, but he was lazy to not dutifully correcting the register’s balance. I hadn’t even paid yet. Something to keep in mind.

Since we were going to the U Street Corridor to have dinner, I did a search to see if there were any bakeries in the vicinity. A Unilocal search turned up BakeHouse. We were here on a Saturday night around 6:30 p.m. From reading the reviews, I knew that it was«the early bird gets the worm» type of set up. In other words, as the day goes on, some of their baked goods could well sell out. The shop is small, brightly lit and cramped. Since, in addition to baked goods, they sell coffee, some people were sitting at the few tables looking at their laptops. We went to the display case to see what was available. The man who helped us told us that as long as a product is in the case, it means it’s still available and that the display item in the case can’t be sold. We picked out 2 English scones which come with a small container of strawberry jam and another one with butter. Seeing some apple pecan cake in the case, we said we wanted 2 pieces only to be told that there was just one piece left. That’s how we discovered that they don’t sell what is on display. Okay, then one piece of apple pecan cake and one piece of banana walnut bread. All totaled, it cost $ 13 + change. When we got home, we tried the apple pecan cake and the banana walnut bread and were impressed. The banana walnut bread had a strong banana flavor with the walnuts providing some crunch. It was a very moist and not too dense. The apple pecan cake had good flavor as the apples and pecans came through very clearly. However, it was on the dry side. The next day, we tried the scones. They are probably the largest scones I’ve ever seen! Sugar was sprinkled on top of each. My husband warmed up his in the microwave very briefly. The concern was that if they were heated too much, they would fall apart. These were excellent scones! Some scones end up being dry, even like hockey pucks but these were dense, yet moist with the sugar adding nice sweetness. My husband said that next time we’re in the area, we need to get more of them! If you go here, keep in mind that each day the selection is different and the later you go, the less there will be for sale. I would really like to try more of their items!

Despite having come here then a dozen times, this week was the first time anyone offered me a frequent drinkers card. Good to know, but kind of sad that they don’t really recognize frequenters. I try to order something different each time, and I haven’t really been disappointed… that said, I only refer to drinks. I haven’t really been inspired by their pastries, but I ordered a sandwich for lunch the other day. While the bread was hearty and tasty, they were pretty stingy on the turkey, the bacon, and the avocado. To slim slices of turkey, two strips of bacon, and two tiny slivers of avocado. Still a really cute spot with nice staff.

I’m giving this place 5*. I come almost every day when I am working in the area. The coffee is great, and they actually have soy milk on the self serve bar(unlike *bucks). Besides the drinks, I’ve tried a caramelita(?) bar and it was amazing. Yes it was very sweet… you wouldn’t want to eat one everyday… but that goes for many baked goods no? I don’t get some of the complaints — re silly hipster entrepreneurship — I love supporting small businesses doing their thing. There’s enough corporate boring yuppie crap on 14th St and in this neighborhood. Oh, and the bathroom is nice… and clean…

BakeHouse was okay. We got a couple desserts and shared them. The first few bites are impressive, but then the taste gets a little monotonous. Given that, I wish the portions were smaller(with lower prices to match). The ambiance was cute. This would make for a nice date place. I’d certainly be willing to go back. I’d probably want to share the desserts with more people, though, to make the portions smaller and to bring down the price. Finally, I’ll note that we asked the person working the counter for recommendations. She steered us well.

HOWCUTEISBAKEHOUSE? Seriously, I can’t get enough. Their clean, minimalist space with the perfect coffeehouse playlist is perfect for getting some work done for a couple hours on a weekday, & their little patio is a great space for grabbing a bite with a friend on a sunny Saturday. I haven’t tried their sandwiches yet, though I’m told they’re excellent. Instead, I’m always taken in by their colorful, decadent-looking pastries — lemon Earl grey macarons? homemade Oreos? gooey caramelitas? yes, please! — & their creative latte flavors, all created with homemade syrups. I’m a big fan of the cardamom latte with soy milk, even though I confess to not really knowing what cardamom is. Smooth flavor, not-too-sweet finish, Starbucks-comparable prices. There’s not a ton of seating, so if you’re looking for a place to camp out with a laptop, BakeHouse may not be the right choice for you. But if you want a quirky neighborhood café with a chill vibe & an unusual menu, get thee to BakeHouse, state.

We were in need of a pickmeup after a full day of trekking up and down 14th St and Bakehouse was readily next door to our last stop, Room and Board. We got a Caramel iced latte, accompanied with a white chocolate and strawberry cookie and a brown sugar cream filled snickerdoodle cookie sandwich. The caramel iced latte started out refreshing, but it got too sweet at the end. Quite honestly, we overloaded on sugar for this order and suffered the consequences. We immediately felt the sugar rush and crash within the span of 5 minutes(likely heavily accelerated by the snickerdoodle cookie cream sandwich). I recommend to be a little less ambitious with the sweet treats, although it’s nearly impossibly when everything on display looks delicious!
