Excuse my hackneyed vocabulary — but this place downright … sucks. After trekking though the unbelievably sweltering humidity of yesterday afternoon, I was incredibly relieved to arrive within the shaded, air-conditioned confines of Union station. To recover from the near-melting experience and to dry out my sweat-drenched lower back, I embarked upon a quest for a non-starbucks refreshment venue. Lo and behold, I run into Café Renee, a small café on the mezzanine level which appears to have a nice selection of chilled items(although the options are not very well listed). I approach the counter(insert dramatic music here). «Hello, what kinds of iced tea do you have?» «Ginger peach» «Hm, I’m not sure if I would like the ginger flavor, would I be able to taste it?» :Harsh Laughter: «Psh, we don’t do samples» He looks at me for a brief moment before he extends his neck forward to take the order of the person behind me. I am rather annoyed at this point but too overheated to give up. I notice it says«regular iced tea» on the board. He continues to take orders around me like I do not exist until I chime in: «Okay, well can I please have a plain iced tea then?» His face immediately emits a I-want-to-strangle-you look before he erupts into«WEDON’T HAVEICEDTEA!!!» Allll right then. That is the cue for me and my desiccated throat to leave… who’s in the mood for some starbucks?
