I’ve taken two classes — a Blind Taste Testing class, and a tasting of Virginia’s Governor’s Case winners — and very much enjoyed both. Jay actually is the organizer for the Virginia’s Governor’s Cup event, and knows his stuff. I consider myself more experienced than an ‘average’ taste tester, but I’m by no means an expert. But Jay’s classes seem a great way to get there.

I’ve been to several classes and have taken the WSET Intermediate(online) exam through the Capital Wine School. The instructors are fantastic and the wines they pour during class are very good. I live in NYC, but whenever I’m in the DC area I make sure to take a course here.

I went with a few friends this past Saturday to the French wine class. It was a great experience. The instructor had a good rapport with the class and I learned a lot in a short period of time. It was just the right mix of tasting/learning/socializing. I would definitely go back here again. The class was $ 65 and the price felt exactly right for what I got.

I took the wine 101, WSET Level II and WSET Level III classes here. I like this place. People here are really professional. I think I will take more classes.

An eclectic group of 15 to 18 students gathered on the evening of Friday, May 17, 2013 to attend a two hour blind tasting of a diverse selection of 12 red and white wines. A master Sommelier, the knowledgeable instructor provided infinitely sage advice to novice and low-intermediate wine Connoisseurs on the basics of tannin, odor/smell and texture. Try the course: you’ll like it! Location: A — Service /instruction: A — Price(you get what you pay for): A — Wine quality: B + Clientele /ambiance: B Overall: B ++ Would I go back: DEFINITELY :-). Perfect for couples or a small to medium group of friends.

I took a beginners wine class here and absolutely loved it. Not only is Jay Youmans a super smart guy, he’s witty and he is not a pretentious wine guy, he’s fun! The class was informative and perfectly paced. We tasted ten wines of all different regions and varietals and started(upon entering) with sips of sparkling to get the group excited. It worked! Although I was undoubtedly the youngest person there I had an awesome time and met some nice people. Jay knows a ton, and he’s a really cool guy. Apparently he is DCs only certified Master of Wine. Pretty sweet. I thoroughly enjoyed myself and I will be taking more classes with him in the new year. I can’t wait to learn more and the best way to do so is via tasting and talking.
