This building likely won’t last too long in its current state in this neighborhood. I lived here for a couple years – it’s good value for the money, and the cheapest rent in the neighborhood without being a housing project, but it’s got some issues. Roaches. Rental office is open the super convenient hours of 10 – 5(because, you know, none of us would be working those hours). Some of the guards act like they’d rather you drop dead than help you out. And I did come home more than once to find someone being arrested out front(good times). There are also bright spots – big units, some amenities(although the rape-y gym is NOT one of them), a parking garage. And Mel in the leasing office is by far the most competent person working there. There are better buildings around, so it depends on what you’re looking for – and I would not be surprised if they knock this building down very soon to build a nicer high-rise.

Carmel Plaza is a great value for money. I will not lie, it is not a luxury building like some of the other buildings down the street. BUT, you will get a lot of space for a great rent. Plus, you get your own washer and dryer in each unit and there are these wonderful mirrored sliding doors in the bedroom. The staff is really friendly too. The units on the south side(facing the parking lot in the back) are really bright and sunny. Yes, I saw maybe one roach in my apartment when I first moved in, but they quickly sprayed and the roaches have not come back. I would definitely recommend this building.

The new management sucks. The guards are all busy talking on the phone and roaches inside the apartment. Other than thay, very convenient, close to union station, gallery place, judiciary.
