This was a great way to spend a nice fall Saturday afternoon. The bars were all in easy walking distance to each other. We started in Logan Circle to pick up our tickets, and then covered 4 bars in that area. We then focused on the Connecticut Ave. corridor in Dupont Circle and covered a few more bars. This event was a great excuse to see bars that I normally wouldn’t have known about, and try some great beers. I was a bit confused as to why Café Citron was serving Baltika, a Russian beer, but hey, I can’t complain. Each bar was very generous in its pour — most places gave you an entire beer to try. I’m so glad that I was able to win tickets to this! Thanks Kimberly/Yelp!

Since I also went to the Luke’s Lobster Unilocal event and had other plans the same evening, I was only able to spend a few hours drinking beers as part of the DC Beerathon, but my friend enjoyed herself for a much longer period. I enjoyed the event for the time I was able to participate, however. Check-in was easy, though they didn’t have our names on the list, but simply asked us to show them our Unilocal confirmation e-mail. Easy enough. They had an electronic map of the participating bars that you could download by scanning a QR code, but it actually didn’t look to incorporate a moving dot telling you where you were/where you were going, so that wasn’t too helpful. I made my friend be a tourist and hold the paper map as we wandered around Dupont. The staff at the different bars we visited were great. Some didn’t even punch our badges, probably because they just wanted to get the beers out as quickly as possibly and get rid of us! HA! Though I received free tickets through Unilocal,I think the ticket price is a great value(if you can drink 10 or more beers).

Being new to the city, DC Beerathon was a really awesome way to check out some great spots to drink and eat. I’m so grateful to Unilocal to get a chance to partake in the event! Check in at Black Jack was a breeze; the Port City Oyster Stout was a delicious way to begin our journey… Unfortunately, quite a few of the locales were unprepared and ran out of their signature drink promised, but all still gladly gave us a replacement bevvie. Some of my favorite spots/beers: Black Whiskey’s DC Brau Public Ale, Buffalo Billiards’ Founders All Day IPA, Irish Whiskey’s Sweet Baby Jesus(so good! Also had tasty lamb sliders and a giant pickle…), and Stoney’s Lounge’s Widmer Alchemy Ale. Although Café Citron’s beer selection had run dry, we stayed a while to fill our bellies… Ceviche and grilled calamari– very good choices that I highly recommend. Over all the day was a lot of fun. Met some interesting kindred spirits(pun intended), and got to bookmark some cool spots to revisit in the future. Can’t wait til next year’s Beerathon :) Thx Kimberly!

I was so excited to win a ticket to the 2nd Annual DC Beerathon! I went and picked up my ticket at Black Jack and started on my little(but an expansive) journey. There were a total of 26 glasses of beer served, one featured at each restaurant, in the DC neighborhoods, each restaurant/bistro/lounge/pub representing their own signature craft/specialty beer(Aero, Black Whiskey, Black & Orange, Board Room, Bourbon, Brixton, Buffalo Billiards, Café Citron, Duke’s Grocery, Irish Whiskey, James Hoban’s, Larry’s Lounge, Maddy’s Bar & Grille, Madhatter, Nellie’s, Piola, Restaurant Judy, Rumors, Science Club, Stoney’s Lounge, The Front Page, Ulah Bistro, and Zorba’s). I was able to meet fellow beer lovers, and all the staff and employees were super friendly and helpful. A portion of all the proceeds go to a non-profit and charitable organizations, so that was neat. I was so glad to check this event out. THANKYOUSOMUCH, KIMBERLY!!! +beerathon at various pubs/bars +map provided of participating pubs/bars
