My coworkers were headed to the Desi Gyro truck so I asked them to get me a gyro sandwich for lunch. The sandwich was traditional with Tzatziki sauce, fresh veggies, tomatoes lettuce feta cheese onions and a fun spicy sauce lots of Gyro meat served on a pita flat bread. Couldn’t have asked for a better warm sandwich that filled me up for $ 7in DC. I would recommend adding a little of their spicy sauce it wasn’t too spicy but it did add a a nice taste to every bite. I was pleasantly surprised at how good my lunch was for a descent price. The service is always excellent and very friendly.

After a night of kicking it with your friends and w/the stomach rumbling, you just want to eat something substantial without the extra grease or spiraling into food-coma mode. Desi’s hot lamb gyro will save the day. Flavorful meat and veggies. Pile on the cooling tzatziki sauce and your belly will thank you. They also offer optional sriracha sauce(does everyone fall back on that sauce nowadays? love it but… want some variation). On the weekends\Fridays, the truck is often in the south side of Dupont near all the bars. They also have the square card reader if you forget cash.

The truck was over at Foggy Bottom today. Compared to all of the other food trucks offering gyros, I would say these guys are towards the bottom. The meat is clearly pre-cooked, frozen slabs of «gyro» that they reheat. I had it over a salad, which was 90% iceburg lettuce, with a couple of slices of tomato, onion, black olives and feta. The yogurt sauce was clearly not homemade either, and it tasted mostly like it was just sour cream. It was about $ 2 cheaper than the other trucks, but no wonder…

Decent stuff, good value. They were at the State Department today, along with every other Greek/Lebanese truck in the free world. There was at least 4 Greek trucks today, so I went with these guys since, well, they were in the middle. Order the grilled chicken gyro platter. First off, it is a substantial amount of food for less than $ 10. The mango or black bean salsa choice was a bit odd, but more on that later. The salad is fine, a decent amount of feta crumbled on fresh iceberg lettuce, with a subtle amount of dressing that was very faint vinaigrette. There was a decent amount of chicken box. It had a Steak-Ums like texture but was decent. The rice was nice and hot, and there was plenty of it. The black bean salsa was actually really good, although it totally doesn’t fit with the motif. It kind of worked. All in all, decent food, looked to be fresh, and the portion was more than adequate. 3 stars, will try again at some other point to see if they bump up to 4.
