Elizabeth Dodson, DDS

She is a wonderful well mannered Dentist with up to date dental equipment.

Im going to try to be as sensitive and PC as I can but Dr Dodson has idiosyncrasies. I gave her a chance and I just cant anymore.
Lets start off with something nice, she caught an abscess in a tooth while on my first visit, that Im sure any competent doctor could find. Great Yaay! Kudos to her she gets 2 stars.
The rest is really weird and kinda ghetto.
Her receptionist and dental assistants are unrefined. — –Lets use that word instead of «Ghetto» cause I actually dont mind gettin a lil hood erre now n then. But when it comes to my health and teeth all that hood stuff goes out the window and I need you to be professional, and neutral. Theyve never caught an attitude with me, but on the phone I can just hear them rolling their eyes and patronizing me. But thats fine thats not why Dodson’s office gets 2 stars.
She gets two stars for the long wait, one time I had to wait an hr and finally I just left. Two stars for the crown she did that has a space in the bonding that eventually will need to be replaced. and 2 stars for being rough and 2 stars for her office décor which looks like its frozen in the 1970s.
Plus she is a little unrefined herself. Is that mean? I dont have a better word for it. Strange? One reviewer used Strange. Ill use it too. She is plain strange.

I don’t know that she is accepting new patients. Sometimes she doesn’t, because she’s got all the business she can already handle. Just one of the great family general practice dentists who knows her stuff. The first reviewer’s review told my much more about the reviewer herself than the Dr. Dodson. Dr. Dodson lives in the house she grew up in, and grew into the family business many years ago. The place is in a black community, where African American culture is the norm. Dr. Dodson is herself a light-​skinned, black women. Don’t be afraid, Ms. middle-​class white woman! She isn’t going to bite! If you don’t like clowns, don’t look at them!
If I had to criticize, I think we can all agree that good office help is hard to come by, and it seems so with Dr. Dodson. It’s always a challenge to get an appointment set up with her, as the front desk/​telephone person is either always changing, or continues to have organizational challenges. But in terms of Dodson herself, the woman is a skilled professional with a big heart.
She cleaned my teeth so well when I was jobless, and without a dime to my name, and on medicare. I then thought that whoever can give me this level of service for no money out of my pocket will definitely get my money, when i have it. She’s been doing my teeth ever since, and when she is quick to make recommendations for other dental practices when something is out of league. (1 day a week she works out of a Ga Ave office to work on medicare patients. She may not be doing this anymore, I’m not sure, as this was some time ago for me, and I think she may be planning her retirement.)

This was my strangest trip to the dentist … EVER!
So, I go to the dentist, and it is in the basement of an house in a residential neighborhood. It is very oddly decorated with a clown figurine motif. I think clowns are scary and dentists are scarier so this was not a good start. To heighten my fear, there were several people groaning in the waiting room with some pretty serious repeat dental problems. I sat in this clown and pain filled waiting room for 2.5 hours past my appointment time before being seen.
When I finally saw the doctor, she stated she would begin by doing a «charting of my mouth. «Okay… what’s that you might ask? That means you hold your mouth open and she points to each tooth individually and says tooth #12 (yes they all have their own number :)) «PRESENT» and an assistant marks it on the giant mouth chart. Despite the fact that all my teeth are very obviously «PRESENT,» this continued tooth by tooth for my entire mouth. Also, there is no dental hygienist and Dr. Dodson gave me a rather perfunctory and unsatisfactory cleaning herself.
Dr. Dodson recommended that I have two fillings. I was suspicious, because as I mentioned, I have had one cavity in my entire life. I went to have a second opinion (out of my own pocket!) and tried to have the Xrays which were taken at this appointment sent to my new dentist. Dr. Dodson’s office has no record of the aforementioned xrays and denies they were ever taken and the new dentist feels that I only need 1 filling. So I guess I soaked up all that extra radiation for nothing.
I do have to say though, in her favor, she and her staff were very friendly and nice, which I really appreciated. They even went out of their way to accommodate my schedule. But, I will be getting that filling at a different dentist!
