Family First Transportation

I wish I could give them a positive review because I love supporting small family owned businesses, but sadly this is an impossibility. I scoped out Unilocal for a reliable car service and decided on Family First based on the positive reviews. I call the number and give them the info., credit card # and was told to call back the day before the trip to confirm everything and to get the drivers phone number. Great!
So day before the trip comes and I call… no answer, voicemail box is full, can’t leave a message. I’ll try again later… no answer. Hmmm. I end up calling about 5 times throughout the day and never reach anyone. Now getting nervous and as a latch ditch effort I shoot them an email with all my information to confirm the service. Day of the trip I get a reply email that states «thanks.» That’s it. No drivers number, nothing.
I still have an bit of faith in this company, based on at least getting a reply to my email, and hope they are waiting for me in the terminal once we land… nothing. I need to be in DC in less than an hour for an appointment, so I call their number, and at this point I’m not surprised that nobody answers and I still can’t leave a message because the voicemail box is full. I rush over to the taxi line and get a quick ride to DC and luckily still make my appointment. The kicker is that I finally get a call from the service 30 minutes into my cab ride wondering where I was at. I was so done with them, I didn’t bother answering my phone.
Like I said earlier, I love supporting small business, but this is a small business I cannot support and unfortunately would warn others to stay away.

I wish I could give family first five stars, because they are such nice people. But if I were a teacher I’d grade them «incomplete.» Both pickups were perfect, on-​time, professionals, really nice cars and the drivers both professional. There was some confusion about the tip, but that can easily have been my mistake. But then I tried to get an accurate receipt for reimbursement for the trip back and that was a struggle, and in the end a struggle I lost. I had to send out a meager email and I hope that will do the trick for me to reimbursement.

I chose Family First because they were highly rated in Unilocal and i just needed a solid driver to get from Dulles to the Hilton without any rigamarole.
My experience in dealing with Anita over the phone and Jim the driver was really, really positive and reassuring as I coordinated this trip very last minute. I was on the plane with the flight attendant spiels going on in the background, barely able to hear over the noise, and Family First had a great sense of humor and brought comfort over the phone.
They also were really receptive to coordinating over text which is so much easier for me (and many of us).
Def worth a try! =-)

Family First is the best in the business. Reliable, courteous and reasonable. I will never use anyone else! Ask for Jim. He is the man.

Needed a ride from Dulles to DC for a family of five. We arranged transportation with Family First. The pickup wasn’t entirely smooth, we asked to be met at the baggage claim, but after a quick phone call, we were picked up at the Departure curb. We rode in a Yukon SUV which was in great condition. Our driver, Jim, was helpful and friendly. After our ride into the city, we arranged for pickup at our apartment back to Dulles. He arrived promptly and delivered us for our flight.

This was my first time using Family First. Everyone I spoke with was professional and courteous. My arrival was delayed by 3 hours and Jim had no trouble accommodating me. I used Family First for my arrival pick-​up and for getting to an important meeting the next day. Daysha, my driver bothtimes, was safe, courteous and very effective at getting me where I needed to go.
I would use Family First again and will recommend them to my friends.

I called Family First based on the reviews on Unilocal and was not disappointed. We flew in from SF to Dulles and were promptly picked up. I had made all arrangements the day before without any problems.
I arranged to have them pick us up a few days later at the hotel and drive us back to the airport. Everything went as planned.
During the drive, my wife and I were very comfortable in the SUV and were offered water as well as candy on both legs of our trip. The driver, whose name I cannot remember, was courteous and very professional.
I will definitely use this service again when I return to the DC area.

Family first is a great car service and I would highly recommend using them in Washington DC. Our plane was a bit late, but Jim was there and met us in the baggage claim. It was raining and he had an umbrella to shelter us from the rain. He was extremely nice and gave us bottled water to drink. Wonderful service, highly recommended.

Very disappointed with this company. I called a few days before my trip to Washington DC to ask about a round trip between the airport and my hotel. There was no answer, so I left a voice mail. I didn’t receive a call back, so I waited until the end of the day to try again. The phone was answered this time, and I asked about hiring a limo to pick us up. The lady I spoke with said she would contact the company she sub-​contracts with, and would give me a call right back. I never heard back from her.
I chose this company based on the solid reviews here on Unilocal and because I wanted to do something special for my son who was competing in the National Spelling Bee for the first time. I ended up calling Super Shuttle, and we rode to the hotel in one of their vans.

Thank you for sending a wonderful driver named Jim to pick us up. The car was clean and spacious just as we had asked. We will definitely use you again when in the DC area.

Update … I appreciate the response from the owners to my review. Although I have not used their services I would give them another chance next time.

I am SO UPSET! Do NOT use this company. They never showed up for the pickup despite the several emails and telephone calls I made to confirm transportation. These guys are amateurs and unreliable.
I booked them for a VIP customer because they had a good Unilocal rating and they FAILED.

Have used Family First twice, on recommendations of Unilocal users.
First time was a very early morning drive from Rockville to Reagan National airport. I called on Saturday for a Monday morning pickup. Anita was friendly and professional and told me to expect an email with the name of my driver the following day. I was confident the driver would come (other companies have let me hanging early in the morning) and sure enough, 4:45 a.m., Randy was there. Professional, dressed up, nice car, water and chocolates in the car.
Second time was this evening. Al drove me and three colleagues to the Inn at Little Washington in an SUV. Anita helped work within my budget and Al was charming and professional. She called the day before to finalize plans. It was such a relief to leave the late-​night driving to a professional.
Will use this company again and highly recommend.

Here is a rundown of my most recent Family First Transportation experience:
I am running late to a flight leaving Dulles international airport in approximately 2 hours on a Friday afternoon and I get home soaking wet after running to make in time in 105 F degrees. I stop by the front desk of apartment building and asked the concierge lady to call a cab for me cos I am thinking that is the fasted way of hitting the road to Dulles. She calls Reggie and gets me a car in literally 15 mins. I went up to my apartment to grab my suitcase and when I came downstairs my car was already waiting for me. The driver was Sherill, who is very friendly and very professional and also couple of years ago she took me to the Union station in 5 mins or less, so I know I am in good hands. I got in the car, she helped with my suitcase and offered me candy and beverages (where else can you get this kind of service, I felt special). We got to the airport taking some shortcuts and avoiding all the nasty Friday rush hour traffic and in almost 25 mins from Dupont circle. AMAZING!!!
Moreover, very clean and well maintained cars. It was a special experience to travel with Family First Transportation!

If you’re one of those people who thinks that all limo companies are shady operations run by sleazeballs, you’ve got to let Reggie and Anita prove you wrong. I wanted a car service to take whisk my girlfriend and I away to far away Alexandria for a weekend getaway and Family First seemed to be the favorite for a (non-​existent) Unilocaler’s Choice Award, so I went with them.
Reggie showed up right on time in a big, shiny, black Expedition. He asked us some of his famous trivia questions and shared some historical insight with us that made our ride that much more enjoyable. He also told us how serious he is about customer service and mentioned that the day prior, one of his drivers was late in picking up a client to bring them to the Mega/​Bolt bus lot at 10^th and New York Ave for a bus to Manhattan, so he bought the guy an Amtrak ticket that got him to the Big Apple earlier than his bus would have! If that’s true, and Reggie doesn’t seem like a liar, then THAT’s customer service in it’s finest form.
Cost was $ 60 + gratuity and I gave him an extra $ 20 just for challenging everything that is the status quo about limo companies. My only complaint: I had asked for a sedan (by phone and in writing) and got an Expedition. Not a big deal, but it’s the only reason I didn’t give Family First 5-​stars.

When I first got to DC, I needed a ride to Dulles and the company was going to pay. I looked up car service on Unilocal,and these guys were the clear favorites. I have since made them my provider of choice.
I usually go to Reagan, mostly to pick up rental cars oddly. (Don’t ask) I have found them to always be prompt. And talking to Anita and Reggie on the phone or in person is terrific. Given the fact that cabs offer no guarantee of showing up, which seems an odd business practice.
I thank Unilocal for introducing me to these guys. I thank Reggie for offering a clean, safe, reliable and cost effective ride.

I had an unusual itinerary and was worried that the fee would be increased because of the complexity, but I was pleasantly surprised when Reggie and Anita’s quote came in lower than others.
While I’ve never really had a bad experience with a private car service, these guys truly deserve 5 stars based on their fee structure and professionalism.

Family First Transportation is awesome! Reggie and Anita are great to work with. The rates for transportation are very reasonable and they can work with any kind of situation from sedan to bus.
They are always on time, reliable, respectful, and lots of fun. Their drivers Al and Tracey also do a great job and no matter who is picking you up they are always courteous and proffesional.
My experience with them has always been great. I am a hotel concierge at a large downtown hotel so I have been using Family First for over a year, several times a week and I am always very pleased with the job they do for my guests.
