I called one day before I was scheduled to pick up my online order for a Yule Log, as I needed to push back a day. The individual who I spoke with was clueless – he didn’t ask for my name or what I ordered, just said to come in when I could to pick it up. I told him my name and order just to make sure… When I arrived at the Bakery the next day, the front counter was unstaffed and there was a woman who seemed to work there sitting and talking on her phone in the customer seating area. After waiting for about five minutes, I turned and looked to see if there was anyone else who could help me. The woman then yelled back to the back and a young gentleman came out, or so I thought. Another five minutes went by and no one had come to help me. I then turned and looked and the man who had been called to help me was standing in the doorway on his phone; I’m sorry if serving me as a customer inconvenienced you… He noticed me staring at him and he quickly came to the front. I gave him my name and told him I was here to pick up a Yule Log. He went to the back and came back out with a 14″ round cake, which had neither been under my order nor what I had told him less than a minute earlier. Finally I had the Yule Log in my hand, which looked fantastic. When I arrived at my holiday party, it may have lasted 15 minutes; the Grand Marnier Vanilla Yule Log was out of this world – not too sweet or rich and not too much boozy flavor. I would highly recommend Firehook if their Yule Logs are anything like the rest of their baked goods, though I am giving this location 3 stars due to the sheer amount of unprofessional behavior that I experienced over two days.

The Presidential sweet is one of my top 5 cookies in the World! Try that guy… only if they’ve made it at this location!!!

This bakery is okay. I tried their key-lime pie and pecan pie. They were mini sized so they were perfect for a snack. The pies were hard and had a rock hard crust. The filling was not that tasty. It was just sweet with the slight taste of lime and pecan. I shared with a friend and they were so hard to cut up… I would probably try another bakery when I’m near here. It wasn’t really worth the trip to this place.

Pumpkin cake was good, but I’ve tried way better pumpkin cakes else where. Will come back to try more sweets.

The least helpful service I have ever met. I am allergic to dairy, and tried to ask for help in choosing something to eat. The woman there hardly answered and wasn’t helpfull, when she did answer she was rude. I wouldn’t go back.
I love this place the manager Mike is awesome I am a southern girl at heart I love the food the hostility I will surely come back.

Firehood won’t get my business for espresso drinks anymore — just had a virtually tasteless latte. And to add insult to lack of taste, the so-called barrista completely ignored my request for extra foam. Why bother paying extra when I can go down the block to Starbucks and get a latte that’s properly made to order and has some actual coffee flavor? Just sayin”!

Hands down — the best Iced Mocha that I have ever had. I literally can’t drink it enough. I am also in love with the Chocolate Espresso cookie, bacon/egg/&cheese on a croissant, and their lunch items. Only reason I give them only 4 stars is they need another person behind the counter taking orders and making drinks during the busy times. Great and friendly service otherwise.

I am in love with the Presidential Sweet Cookie. My family and I stopped here after lunch for a little something sweet. I ordered a cappuccino and everyone else got hot chocolates. The drinks were so hot that my husband was doing that awkward jog/walk to get them to the table even with the heat sleeves. We took the lids off in an attempt to cool them down faster, but 20 minutes later they were not at a drinkable temp. I ate half of my cookie and just got a water, eventually taking our drinks to go. The cappuccino was very very very milky, I couldn’t really taste any espresso. I wouldn’t recommend. My husband said the hot chocolate was pretty good though. The cookie on the other hand — get it! It has dried cherries, chocolate chips, oats and a touch of dried coconut. It’s the perfect texture. My husband and daughter had the chocolate chip cookie and they enjoyed theirs as well.

Mmmm, looove! My first experience with Firehook was a couple years ago, when my SIL came into town and threw a party for a friend, featuring a Firehook cake. I was aghast at its scrumptiousness. Thus, I was very happy when it hit me that I’d recently moved closer to a Firehook storefront. I visited for the first time last weekend. I’d been getting my baked goods from a few other cafes and bakeries on Barracks Row(8th St.) but none were really hitting the spot. I wanted variety of baked goods, I wanted cake, I wanted homemade cookies and I wanted pie … and I wanted it nooooow(hey, I’m pregnant.)(And what I actually want it some reallllly good, light/whipped chocolate mousse — anyone know where I can find that? And can I even it that while I’m pregnant? Raw eggs. Hmm.) But I digress. There were about eight cakes in the window, none of them sliced, to my dismay. My mom was ready to buy a whole cake just so I could have one piece, but the nice lady(manager?) behind the counter said that, depending on which one I wanted, she’d slice away. We ordered TWO slices of the dark chocolate mousse cake and yes, I ate them both… over the course of three days, thank you very much. The cake itself was fluffy and light, almost so much so that I found it hard to believe these were baked in-house. Fantastic chocolate flakes and a creamy mousse in between layers. Can’t wait to try my next one. I opted for one peanut butter cookie as well and later regretted I’d only gone for one. We grabbed a slice of pumpkin bread for my 1.5-year-old son to munch on on the way home. We tried confirming with the other lady behind the counter that the bread had neither nuts nor dried fruits, to which she said, «this one has none of that,» so were surprised to find all kinds of cranberries/raisins packed inside. No matter, we picked around them. But beware there may be some language barriers while ordering.

This place has the most incredible cheesecake I have ever eaten… fluffy, just perfect sweetness, topped with fresh fruit. The graham cracker crust is incredible and I love the nut garnish also. If the rest of their baked goods are even half as good as that cheesecake, I’m sure anyone would be able to satisfy their sweet tooth here.

I love this place. It’s very close to where I work, the employees remember friendly faces. The breakfast sandwiches are AMAZING. They make all the eggs to order, which I really appreciate. The bacon, egg, and cheese on a croissant is my favorite. It’s a huge sandwich at a great price. I’ve never had lunch here, but it’s worth coming here just for a breakfast. The chai is great too!

The only reason this place doesn’t get 5 stars is because the square desserts that I love cost so an unreasonable amount of money. They do taste unreasonably good, but that’s still absurd to charge $ 3.50 for a square dessert. The service and atmosphere are wonderful. Great place to make a quick stop and surprise the office with delicious treats or good coffee. I can’t say the coffee is as amazing as the desserts, but it’s good.

Stopped in for breakfast while visiting DC for the Marine Corps Marathon. The mocha was really good and the omelet was decent, but nothing special. The location was great — just a few blocks from our hotel and right by the Capitol. I could definitely see myself as a regular at this local chain if I lived here.

Decent food but you can tell it’s mass produced. Prices are good which help in DC. I wish they would do away with the styrofoam plates, containers, etc. it’s terrible for the environment and just looks cheap and trashy. **looks like they’ll have to get rid of the styrofoam junk they use bc DC just passed a ban!

Firehook is minutes from my job so very convenient. I have visited on several occasions. 1. My first experience was the humongous chocolate chip cookie. Delicious! Soft! Perfect! 2. A second experience was the panini during lunch. Chicken panini I believe. No one could really tell me what was on it. It barely had any meat. Something I would not try again 3. Last experience the breakfast. I have tried the bacon egg and cheese Croissant(twice). Heavenly! Fluffy and buttery. Very delicious. Perfect amount of egg and bacon. There was some cheese, but it was not a super cheesy sandwich, which was perfect for me. I have also tried the sausage bagel. Also very delicious. Certainly come for the cookies or the many other bakery items they carry and the breakfast sandwiches!
