A slightly out of the way park which hosts the remnant of Fort Totten, one of 68 Civil War forts which once defended the city — although only nearby Fort Stevens ever came under attack. The fort itself is overgrown and off-limits; Civil War buffs might be disappointed. There is a walking path around what remains of the walls and dry moat, both of which are more-or-less observable. But all in all, the fort is in bad shape. Historians would be better served visiting Fort Stevens, or even better Fort Ward in Alexandria. The park is decent enough; there are a few tables and benches. You can also walk here from the Fort Totten metro.

Fort Totten Park is the site of of a Fort that was part of a a ring of 68 forts surrounding Washington DC during the Civil War. The remains of the fort are still visible and well protected and still easy to see. I certainly do do feel that the National Park Service is doing a superb job protecting and maintaining this historic site. It is an easy 10 minute walk from the nearby fort totten metro station.
