Grand Slam Sports Bar

Not bad,
Had 12, 16 and 22 ounce beers and more than enough tv things
did not try the food
relaxing to sit down after standing in long lines at dc curbside cook off.

Hard to find literally in the basement, or the Lagoon level, as they call it. What?
Went there on a Friday night and it was empty. So empty that they had closed part of the table area and the TV’s were turned off. Really? It’s a SPORTS BAR. The TV’s should always be on. Only about 5 other people at the bar. Had one (very expensive) beer and left. There are more inviting sports bars just a block or so away.

Went here last night to watch MSU vs Oregon game. I’m not sure who decided on this place, but I know for sure I would never come back here again. The service here sucked balls! I mean both balls. literally! How hard is it to bring water? Apparently debilitating, because I didn’t receive it until 45 minutes later after finishing my food and having to ask AGAIN where was my water? I guess request for water weakens the brain cells, who would of thought! I also learned its very hard to differentiate between a bread plate (or small plate) and dinner plate (larger plate), because after requesting 2x for a bigger size plate to eat my food the waitress brought me another bread plate, huh? Oh not to mention I had to leave my table to walk up to the bar informing my waitress we were ready to order, because she decided 20mins wasn’t long enough to keep us waiting! Having to deal with all of this and then have mediocre food killed my soul! I know its bar food, but damn it I’ve had some pretty unhealthy «make you want to slap ya momma» good tasting bar food! Then the waitress decided to be attentive when the check came… too funny! As I stated before I would never come here again.

This a place you should really only go if you have to expense a meal and our caught eating late while staying at the Grand Hyatt. They’re open late when nothing else in the Downtown area is.
The service was fine but the atmosphere was very sad. If not drunk, I would have felt very, well, sad.
The fried pickles are disgusting. Like, avoid at all costs. Since they’re not a common dish, the trendy, open-​minded side of your palette will want to give them a chance but you will be holding back tears.
The chicken tenders are standard. The sandwiches are standard.
It still is worth your time though if you’re left with no options and can expense your meal. There certainly could be worse options.

I would expect a 5-​star hotel to have better amenities; having a full bar that’s open early and closes late should be a given. Unfortunately, the wine bar doesn’t open until 4:00 pm, and the only other place to grab a drink is the sports bar downstairs. Long story short, it’s a crappy atmosphere and they play bad music from the 90s like Creed … exclusively.
One plus is that they serve Yuengling. One minus is even the fries were crap.

This place is a joke. Came here with some friends for the 2^nd round of the World Cup USA match after seeing on their website they provided $ 15 buckets of 5 Heinekens. Score, or so we thought.
Well, 15 minutes before the game begins, the food menus get swapped out for a skeleton of what they used to be, and upon asking our server about the bucket deal, he let us know that they were not offering it, and we had to order straight from the menu.
No problem, until, oh, fantastic, the cheapest bottled beer is $ 6.50 for a budweiser. cool. Guess we’re not going to get robbed that way, so we order a 5 liter beer tower of Dogfish Head for ~$ 56, not a bad price, calculating out to around $ 5 – 6 per pint.
Then the tower came. Strange, the marking on it said 3.5 liter at the top of the mark. We ordered a 5 liter. We asked the server, who obviously was already annoyed with our previous annoyance at the fact that the only thing their website even had or really highlighted was the $ 15 bucket deal, and he basically snapped at us when we asked why the container was labeled 3.5 liters and not 5.
What did he care though? With a table of over 8 individuals, his gratuity was built right in to the bill, terrible tude or not.
I guess since I’m required to give one star, it could be for the french fries, which were hot and crispy, as one would hope.

I hate sports bars, but I love Grand Slam. The food is boring, the ambience is like a hotel basement bunker (it is a hotel basement bunker), and there are TVs everywhere. The staff is probably the friendliest on the planet, which is why I keep winding up in a poxy sports bar after work.

The staff at the Grand Slam is incredibly friendly and attentive, especially Mimi. Having been here multiple times in such a short period of time during March Madness, they always happily accommodated the large alumni presence from my university. They were attentive throughout the numerous hours we spent there watching the basketball games and got in on the action, cheering for our team and even sporting t-​shirts.
Grand Slam has lots of televisions and then a giant projector screen that they put the game on as well. When we won, they even let us play the fight song through the sound system :) which made for just a fun atmosphere to watch all of the games and you just couldn’t beat the friendliness of the staff. After the final game, our waitress who we had for 4+ games gave us hugs as we were leaving!
Food-​wise, it’s typical sports bar fare: I had the crisp chicken tenders, which were good, but surprisingly they didn’t come with fries. The next two times I went I had the grilled chicken wrap, which was quite tasty and came with fries. My friend got the spicy black bean burger each time because she enjoyed it so much the first time we were there and she ordered it.
Note: for people trying to find Grand Slam, there isn’t an outside entrance, you have to go into the Grand Hyatt Hotel and Grand Slam is located one floor down from the hotel check-​in.

Bartender: Sandy. She makes great margaritas and is very personable. Ask for her!
Drink: Diamond Margarita — one of the best and strongest margaritas I’ve had in DC.
Atmosphere: Pretty spacious, lots of tvs. Came here for the Wizards vs Bulls playoff game — Bulls won! :)
Prices: Meh. Slightly pricey.
I like this place.

Le nom né laisse planer aucun doute: situé au premier sous-​sol du Grand Hyatt, c’est un bar des sports, traduire que de nombreuses télés (placées de manière à ce que vous en ayez toujours au moins une dans votre champ de vision) vous assomment en permanence de retransmissions de matchs et compétitions en tout genre. C’est bien pour les amateurs, mais bof pour les autres. Cela dit, il a quand même une utilité pratique: passé une certaine heure, c’est la seule possibilité de dîner sans sortir de l’hôtel, d’autant plus que la bouffe et le service sont corrects.

If you’re thinking about going here to watch football, just don’t.
Hubby and I went yesterday. It was unbearably loud so you couldn’t even hear the games.
It was full of Saints fans.
There was nowhere to watch most of the games.
It was $ 9 for a rail drink in a plastic cup.
The food was OK and the service was better than I expected, but there is absolutely no reason to go here when Capitol City Brewing is across the street and better in every way

This sports bar is in the basement of they Hyatt and is quite good. I got there at 3 on a Saturday and left at 7. The beer is fair priced, the food is good, and the TVs are big enough. We sat in front of the biggest TV and asked for them to change it to our game, which they obliged.
My only knock against them is that the cell service is beyond terrible in there. In 3 hours, my phone was totally dead because it was looking for a signal.

This place was a good spot to catch any football game, we were in DC for the weekend and wanted to catch the Vikings game and this place was actually playing it. The food options aren’t impressive, we got wings and they were tiny with not much flavor. Also service was slow, even though it was a pretty busy place we saw our server about 2 times in the 1.5 hours we were there. Also very loud especially since everyone is rooting for a different team, but overall it was a good spot to just watch your team.

This ‘sports bar’ is quite literally designed to rob hard-​working people of their money while providing them, nay– forcing on them– awful food and even worse drinks. Quite literally a joke Except there was nothing funny about the experience. If you want disgustingly dry wings served with a myriad of sauces without even the very little effort that tossing them would take, eat here. If you want to make your own decisions as to when you’re ready for a drink, don’t drink here. Also, don’t have any expectations of having the drink you didn’t actually order made correctly. Not an option! You know what you can look forward to? Your server sitting in a seat watching the game right behind you doing literally nothing but waiting for his AUTOMATIC GRATUITY. Because regardless as to how many people are part of your party you will pay gratuity on disgraceful service. This bar preys on sports fans too drunk to know better. If you’re reading this sober, avoid it at all costs.

The crab and corn chowder is great and the service is friendly and prompt. But if you are on a budget I found the beer a little on the pricy side.

Sandy, bartender, is amazing. She goes the extra step to make you feel like you’re at your favorite spot back at home. I won’t even hold it against her for being a Philadelphia eagle fan, no superbowls. If you have time for a quick drink stop here and you’ll feel the worries of the day fade away. Robi, the waiter is cray cray (not even sure where that means but it fits his personality)

Hungry at 10:00 pm Sunday and having just arrived from the airport, I found Grand Slam on Unilocal.It’s downstairs from the lobby of the Grand Haytt.
Normally I stay away from hotel restaurants and bars but on this occasion Grand Slam fit the bill:
1. It was open. (DC is a long way from ‘city that never sleeps” status.)
2. Better yet the kitchen was still open.
3. The hamburger, fries and dill pickle were fine. The hamburger was thick enough that medium rare was actually medium rare.
4. A zillion huge TVs were showing recaps of the Seahawks-​Falcons and Patriots-​Texans games that I had missed while i was on the plane.
5. Among the memorabilia on the wall was an autographed #44 Hank Aaron baseball shirt.

It was about 11pm and I didn’t want to order room service as I stayed in the Grand Hyatt. All the other restaurants were closed so how bad could this sports bar be?
Well if you plan on ordering food DON“T COME HERE unless you lack tastebuds then knock your socks off.
I could see this place being fun if I wanted to watch a sports game (flat screens everywhere you turn) and enjoy some beer. After possibly enjoying a few beers you probably couldn’t tell if the food was good anyway.
The service was super friendly and attentive.
So I guess if you’re just looking for a meal this is not the spot.

Stayed at the Grand Hyatt for a work event so I ended up spending a fair amount of time at the Grand Slam. The first night a group of about 8 – 10 of us stopped in for drinks. The next night, I was impressed that the waiter remembered what everyone had been drinking the night before without missing a beat. Given that most waiters don’t remember from round to round, I was pretty impressed.
I had dinner there on Thursday night and the food was pretty good — my only complaint was that I had added sauteed mushrooms (at an extra cost) to my Philly steak and ended up with only about 5 mushroom slices. The sandwich itself was tasty so I didn’t really miss the mushroom.
Wine is pretty expensive here so 3 of us ran up the bill to $ 100 pretty quickly. I don’t know if I would go out of my way to visit the Grand Slam but if staying at the Hyatt again, I’ll definitely be back!

Get there early — this place fills up before big games! This was our chosen spot to watch the NFL Playoff games, and over the course of 6+ hours, we racked up about $ 45 bucks per person in food/​drinks. Here’s what it got us:
1) 3 pitchers of beer (roughly four 16 oz. glasses per person)
2) A platter of spinach and artichoke dip (see pic) — it was just ok. Needed hot sauce, in my opinion.
3) A dozen buffalo wings
4) A very generous plate of onion rings
5) A hot roast beef sandwich & fries
6) A buffalo chicken sandwich (also w/​fries)
The staff was pretty nice, and while they weren’t the most diligent about coming around to check on us, they were really prompt in putting in our orders and bringing stuff over promptly. Is this bar going to change your life? No. Will it be a decent place with lots of TVs to watch a game? Yes!
VERY IMPORTANT THING TO NOTE:
The cell phone service SUCKS! I know they can’t do anything about it (it’s in a pseudo basement), but I thought it was worth mentioning so:
a) you can throw a charger into your bag and find a rogue plug or
b) close all of your apps/​anything that constantly searches for a signal so you don’t drain your cell’s battery!

After the very unsatisfying dinner at Haad Thai, I was still hungry and basically needed some protein. So I ducked into the Grand Slam Sports Bar to find some. I seated myself at the bar and looked over a menu. I went for a dozen Buffalo wings and a glass of water.
While I was waiting, I asked the bartender if they would switch the HD TV that was facing me — from the baseball game — over to ESPN so that I could watch the Nebraska vs. Missouri game. They did so after a couple of minutes of finagling — apparently the controls for the TVs are not at the bar.
Wings were good, they were served with a side of Blue Cheese dressing and celery stalks. I asked for a side the of Buffalo sauce to dip them in as well. Wings were on the brink of crispiness — so not to soft, and had good flavor! Hit the spot!
