This business is so important. Health conscious food, owned by a black man. Absolutely! I’ll do a juice cleanse next week. Thank you.

This place is amazing. The staff is super helpful and willing to explain all of your options and the food is incredible. I’m currently on a raw food cleanse and this place was the perfect lunch spot. Definitely going back again.

Kephra’s is a delicious place for healthy, vegan food in the city. Great team working the floor and kitchen. Always a good place to swing by.

Non veg. here. First time trying raw food! I got the curry wild rice, jerk egg plant, and coconut crab cake. The«preggo» lady(sorry didn’t get her name) at the counter was very knowledgeable and helped me with understanding the drinks and the temperature of the food. I don’t know her but I definitely think she helped ease any anxiety about trying it. :) She recommended the sugarcane lime juice. Really bitter and sweet lol but good. Overall, great experience. I’m thinking about the cleanse just because I went overboard for the holidays. LOL!

I am a huge fan of Khepra’s. I drive an hour there about twice a year and am always very excited when I go. As a fruit-based raw vegan, this spot is quite the treat for me. Often things are salty or very heavy but I’ve noticed that on social media you guys have been striving to be better and it REALLY shows. I’ve never been more pleased with my food from here. I finally got to try the pizza and it was so good. So much flavor. My girlfriend, who normally thinks that the food is too heavy, regretted not getting any when she tried the crab cake. Just really awesome. Keep it up, awesome to see you guys grow into something even better than you already were :) Can’t wait to come back soon.

I actually live about 6 hours from here, but I stop by whenever I’m near D.C. I’m a fully raw vegan myself and I’m obsessed with the: *almond burger *mushroom pizza *creamy kale(my single most favorite item. I wish they would sell it in a big to-do bucket so I could eat tons of it. Or maybe just the dressing and I could use that to make my own salad. I bought the book and DVDs hoping to get the recipe because I live in NY and that’s how much I love it) *brocolli, and *buffalo cauliflower(somewhat spicy and super delicious) Have to admit that some of the side are really not appealing to me, including the plantains, there was some new side yesterday(new to me anyway) that looked like mushrooms but wasn’t and tasted awful, and some collard salad with an orange-y dressing. But not everybody is going to love everything. I tried some new cookies as well yesterday that were unique and interesting – a chia seed cookie and a cashew cookie. Both were fairly good and I’d probably try them again. I did make it out to D.C. for the Raw Vegan Festival hosted by Khepra at the end of September. I was a little miffed that I was ignored when I asked a question on Meetup but decided to go anyway. There were some good vendors but the talks weren’t for the most part what I was hoping for.

As a first timer at 3-day juice cleanse, I was extremely satisfied with what I got. I found this place through Groupon and ordered 3-day juice cleanse plus shipping. I was worried that the juices won’t arrive on time since they are only«fresh» for 3 days. The juices arrived in a box with a cooling pack and they were still cold and icy although the shipping took over 24 hours. The juices were clearly labeled with a number and ingredients(see my photos!) They tasted great especially the almond coconut juice was amazing! I can drink that every day. I recommend this place!

Sometimes I have a taste for this place. It’s usually after listening to a heavy dose of WPFW radio, looking at some of my skinny friends workout posts on FB, or seeing the latest meat that will kill you on the news. My favorites are the seaweed salad, kale and pineapple salad, buffalo cauliflower, plantains with sundried tomatoes, curry Brussels sprouts, and avocado.

2⁄5 for food. I had the $ 15 sampler with the hemp almond burger with all sides. Honestly, from the reviews I was expecting to be blown away. I’ve had really great, healthy, raw, vegan cuisine around major cities like NY and Toronto. This meal failed to live up to those places. It did not feel fresh or healthy or light. All the sides were drowning in oily sauces. Each thing I tried had too much salt. It all was so greasy and heavy that I couldn’t even finish it. The portions of each side were tiny, barely a spoonful. The hemp almond burger was advertised as having won some award but it was not something incredible in my opinion. All I could taste was salt. The texture was all mushy, no contrasts. As for sides, the plantains were just unidentifiable in a bad way. I threw out half my food because of the salt and grease, feeling sick and heavy after eating however much I did. I don’t think tons of oily sauces are necessary to make raw food taste good. The food loses its natural flavors as a result. Why bother? I’d recommend that they use a less liberal hand with the dressings and a more liberal hand with the portions.

Quick disclaimer: I am not vegan, vegetarian or a raw foodie. What I am is a person who loves quality food. Food: I’ve gone to Khepra’s numerous of times and will continue to patronize this establishment. The food is great… it’s very flavorful and filling. I don’t always know what I’m eating exactly due to the lack of explanation provided by staff. Atmosphere: there are tables to dine in, which is a plus. However, I don’t come for here for the atmosphere, moreover for the food. There isn’t anything about the space itself that makes me want to seat there and eat. :overall, this place is a keeper because of the type of food available here, i.e. Raw food. I do really hope that in the future places such as this would lower their internal costs so that patrons of all income brackets could choose here instead of Mc.Devils. Plainly stated, this isn’t for the people. They do not feed the people, because the masses can’t always afford this type of price tag for fast food.

Writing a review of this place feels a bit like reviewing an S&M dungeon. The two business models share a lot of similarities. Firstly, eating this food will not feel especially pleasant. But that’s basically a given with raw vegan food. You eat it partially because it tastes bad, so you can feel cleaner and more virtuous afterwards. In other words, you want it to hurt so good. And for people who are into that sort of thing, I think Khepra’s delivers reasonably well. It certainly has a vast selection of fresh juices to live off, just in case solid bowel movements bore you(Mega Milk($ 10), goji/raspberry juice($ 9), soursop/pineapple($ 9), cabbage/lemon/pecan($ 9), young coconut water($ 7)). It also has a wide selection of taste bud abuses, from cold hemp burgers($ 15), to grainy seaweed salads. Also, if wallet abuse really gets you going, this place is not cheap. Overall, if raw food is your kink, this place exists to serve you in a wide selection of ways. But if you’re a vanilla and used to cooked food that makes love to your tastebuds instead of spanks them, you probably won’t be the biggest fan. P. S.–If you prefer edible food, the cashew cheesecake($ 9) is actually(shockingly!) rather tasty in a mashed-banana-with-sugar kind of way.

I was introduced to Khepra’s by a friend who offered me her juice cleanse program that she couldn’t do… THANKYOUFRIEND! The juices were phenomenal! There were some flavors I wasn’t too crazy about, but I the Almond Coconut Milk! Several months later I went to the DC Green Festival and lo and behold, Khepra’s was there! I had the Coconut Crabcake with two sides: Buffalo Cauliflower and Broccoli Bites, $ 11. ABSOLUTELYDELISH! On another occasion I ordered the same entrée with the cauliflower and this time tried the Seaweed Spinach Salad. AMAZING, again! Raw food is very filling and satisfying and completely GUILTFREE! I plan my trips to DC around my visits to Khepra’s! Wish they would open a store in MD.

A cleared plate and a big healthy grin after each of my three visits to Khepras this summer. I haven’t done the juice cleanses, but have enjoyed the almond hemp burger twice and the avocado nori wrap once, along with all of the sides. Its worth getting the large entrée to sample the diverse flavors, especially for your first visit. Side options tend to vary, though you can tell everything was made in house. The food is pure and delicious, coming from someone who usually is reluctant to eat out and will make her own food 98% of the time. Atmosphere is casual and quick-to-order serving style. Will definitely return, and even went out of my way today to do so. :)

3.5 stars I’ve tried the raw food here and a 3-day Juice cleanse. Atmosphere: not really a sit down place, and I’m a little skeptical about the stuff they’re selling in the other part of the store. the food used to be in the back, though, and I’m glad they moved to the front. much different vibe. Service: not the best. picking up my cleanse was a little annoying, had to confirm and reconfirm things, one of my friends called in to reserve her cleanse and they didn’t have it on file. Food: definitely one of a kind in the entire area. very unique preparations of raw food, and I remember it being enjoyable. However, some of the dishes were a bit on the oily side, but… how else can you make raw food tasty, am I right? It’s also on the pricy side, but I can imagine this is a sort of heaven for those on vegan and raw food diets. The 3-day juice cleanse: so I did this with a bunch of my friends, and it was my first time trying it via a Groupon deal. Disclaimer: keep in mind everyone’s body is different. [not for the faint of heart /don’t read while eating] Pros: — It ended up being very affordable, considering we got 18 juices. They always have a deal, so check out Groupon. — It was a great experience. it was both mentally and physically challenging. — By day 2, when I was still doing #2, I felt very accomplished. I’ve read that your body can store up to 8 days worth of excrement… I was definitely expelling some of those residuals… — I did not have diarrhea nor did I vomit. — I wasn’t as hungry as I thought I’d be, especially because I was drinking my recommended daily intake of water(# of ounces = your body wt in lbs divided by 2) — They use allot of exotic fruit that I’ve never heard of or that I know are rare fruits. Cons: — Be aware that this is a very low calorie cleanse. other juiceries offer juices that add up to almost 2,000 calories. Khepras juices are all coconut water based, so you get about 1,000 calories max per day. For those who need that calorie intake should plan their juices accordingly(eg. buy a 3 day cleanse and drink them in 2 days, etc… but I’m not an expert…) — They swapped out juice #2, which should be fresh almond milk, to watermelon juice due to ‘hot weather and storage concerns’. this also significantly lowered the calorie intake, and I was actually looking forward to fresh almond milk :-( — I did hot yoga on day 1(which, maybe I shouldn’t have, I sweated A LOT), walked on day 2, but had zero energy by the end of the workday day 3, and went home to take a 4 hour nap… before waking up just to go right back to sleep. — They do not provide any type of cooling methodology for transport of your juices. Each day’s worth of juice is given to you in a black plastic bag. — I followed the recommended ease back into regular eating(fruit for breakfast day 4, etcetc) but it has been 3 days since my cleanse and my stomach still gets upset after eating solid food(even fruit /veggies). — No choice in what juices you get. The juices: Day 1 1. coconut water 2. watermelon — delicious!!! 3. cucumber pear lime 4. pineapple kale ginger — this was my favorite! some of my friends thought there was too much ginger, but I loved it. 5. goji raspberry — the goji flavor was too strong for me 6. pineapple soursop — I need to find soursop, I loved both variations of this juice. Day 2 1. coconut water 2. watermelon 3. cucumber pear lime 4. pineapple kale ginger 5. Apple pear ginger lime 6. guava pineapple soursop Day 3 1. coconut water 2. watermelon 3. watercress pear lime — didn’t like this very much. kind of bitter aftertaste. 4. pineapple kale ginger 5. goji strawberry — much better than the raspberry one. 6. pineapple soursop Feel free to message me if you have questions about it! I think the cleanse was great, but I might try it from somewhere else to give a fair comparison.

Great raw food laid back eatery. They typically have four entrees and about eight sides. All raw, all delicious. The best deal of the place is to get a large, which comes with an entrée(like an almond hemp burger or avocado wrap) and a small scoop of every side. All for just $ 15. Not bad right? They also specialize in fresh juices. I’ve had a few and they are amazing. They aren’t cheap, but fresh cold pressed juices never are. Dining experience is laid back and very casual. Emphasis on very. There are just a few bar seats. This place is more a pick up and take home type of eatery. And great part about raw food is that it doesn’t take long to cook! I used the Unilocal deal with success and my wife did the juice cleanse on groupon. Makes things more affordable.

I was NOTIMPRESSED. I’ve been to several juice bars in the area and while this one does offer the added benefit of a full menu off food… don’t be fooled. I was stared at when I walked in the door by the lady behind the counter and had to speak first… ok whatever. I told her that I had never been there before and that I needed assistance ordering juice. She pointed to a tiny fridge on the right and after I walked over, she finally then mentioned that these were the selections. To top it off, one bottle of apple ginger juice that DOESNOTTASTELIKEAPPLEORGINGERATALL, but instead a bottle of coconut water —was $ 9.00! What?!? The only highlight was meeting the AMAZINGLYKINDANDHOSPITABLE owner who came and greeted me and held a small conversation. It was great meeting him, but everything else was sucky.

I really wanted to be blown away by the juices I got for a five day cleanse. Really I did. But I really wasn’t the biggest fan. The juices in THEORY were great and the way they are made was fantastic but for the cost… eh maybe not so much. Shortly after my cleanse I decided to purchase a really high end juicer that I love. And to me that just makes more sense if you are going to be juicing. I was intrigued however by the food as I was on a juice cleanse I didn’t eat any of it though and because it was so far from the metro station I didn’t go back. So take this review with a grain of salt.

In December, before the holidays, I purchased two Living Social Deals to Khepra’s in anticipation of all the holiday excess to come. I figured it would make me feel less guilty about all the fatty foods, and sugar, and booze, and extra meals I would be consuming. «It’s ok, next week I’m going to be very earnest and healthy and drink green juice!» Plus I knew if I spent the money in advance I would go through with it because I hate wasting money slightly more than I hate three days of a liquid diet. I bought a three day juice cleanse and a three day raw food cleanse. I’ve done three day juice cleanses before(Blue Print and others), and Khepra’s was on par with my experiences in the past. For the price on Living Social, it is significantly cheaper than buying your cleanse at Whole Foods. You get six bottles per day(coconut water, nut milk, two green juices, two fruit juices). The first day is always the worst. Second worst is that no one wants to hang out with you when all you’re consuming is juice. The juices themselves were pretty tasty, especially the pineapple soursop. All of the juices were mixed with coconut water. I’m used to green juices that are straight kale blood with a hint of lemon. This was more palatable, but I will admit I felt a little like I was cheating since it meant that only half the bottle was liquid greenery. Usually after three days of juice, I eat relatively healthy, but I’m not as diligent as the cleanse instructions tell you to be(eating only raw fruits and vegetables to start, and adding in other foods slowly). Feeling like this holiday season was going to be particularly damaging, I decided to buy the three day raw food cleanse too and start that immediately after the juices. Each day of the raw food cleanse comes with your choice of two juices, a cookie, and lunch and dinner, which each consist of a main entrée and two sides. I was pretty skeptical going in having never eaten raw food(well other than things that are normally served raw), but this was some really good food, and I don’t think it was just because it was the first solid food I had eaten in 72 hours. I loved the coconut crabcake, the«burger,» the wraps, and the broccoli salad and the kale salad with pomegranate, but everything I had was very good. It all had a ton of flavor. The little chia cookie was a nice snack. And my favorite juice of the whole juice-y week was the papaya, soursop, strawberry. All in all, I felt like Khepra’s delivered on the deal. And I enjoyed my several visits to their little shop on H St. They were friendly and it seemed like a neighborhood gathering place, which is especially impressive since they’re serving healthy, raw food and juices.

To my knowledge, there isn’t another raw food + juice bar in DC(or my part of DC), so this 5 star review is based on absolutely zero comparisons. I love meat and unhealthy things so I’ve never been to a raw-food restaurant, but I do own my own juicer and have hippie parents who do gluten-free for the hell of it… so I’m a little familiar with the culture. Okay let’s get started. Like many others on Unilocal,I had a Groupon. Well I had two. First for a three day cleanse, and another for a $ 12, to get a punch card giving me $ 5 off for 5 visits. So naturally when I would go get my juice for the cleanse, I’d try out of the food. Genius right? I’ve read some complaints about scheduling the cleanse and I think the problem is our generation. We want to do everything online and get what we want right the second we want it. Just breathe and calm down. Check their business hours, call during a slow time, and ask how you can schedule it. I was instructed to send an email outlining which deal I had purchased, when I wanted to do the cleanse, and what day I wanted to pick it all up. For a three day cleanse you can pick it all up, so I booked it via email and got a confirmation a day later. Yes, a day later, not instantly, but I promise the world didn’t come to an end! So then I went to the store. This is a mom-and-pop operation of sorts. They have a healthy goods store inside next to the restaurant area and it’s incredibly informal and ‘granola’. But you know, I liked it. Someone walked in and greeted the woman behind the counter with a hug while I was there. That’s what Mandana likes to see: food with love! So I picked up my juices and as others have stated, you get charged tax. It’s a great deal and tax is a legality thing so just deal with it. Remember you’re getting 6 juices a day, and you usually have 4 – 8 fruit/veggie items in each, and they actually are delicious. It all comes with instructions and the woman working the register walked me through it and took her time with me making sure I understood everything down to how they should be refrigerated and what I eat coming off the cleanse. But remember I got a Groupon for a punch card too, so I got myself some food. And man oh man was it delicious. I’ve never done raw food formally. Sometimes we eat raw and don’t realize it, for example, simple salads or simple uncooked veggies, but this was complex, exciting, flavorful and… taking into consideration this was my first time… gourmet. I don’t think I, or the general public, could replicate the food at Khepra’s easily. As deceiving as their store front may be, this is some fancy food. They offer an entrée with two sides for $ 12, or an entire with all sides(in smaller portions) for $ 15. I went for the latter and it was delicious and as everyone else has mentioned, a huge portion of food overall. I loved everything but the seaweed side, only because I hate the taste of seaweed. I can’t wait to go back and have it all again. Now for the cleanse, I finished it(and I didn’t cheat)! Not only does the juice taste good, it kept me full the entire three days. And remember, I’m a meat/junk eater. I felt the affects of the detox and recognize that only so much can happen in three days. If you want a complete detox, seven days may be the better choice for you, but I love food too much for that. At the end of my instructions for the cleanse, Khrepa’s offers to match their Groupon price directly if you want to purchase it again. It’s a great deal, and goes for half of what other juice bars offer. I think this holds true for anyone, even if they never purchased a Groupon, so if you’re interested, definitely just give them a call and see what they’re offering at the moment. A long-winded review, I know, but I think establishments that are less traditional in nature need a narrative rather than a simple summary. In short, I liked Khrepa’s a lot, their food and their style!

I’m no vegan, vegetarian, or healthy eater by any means, but I appreciate good food when I taste it. I wanted to try this place out because I bought an AmazonLocal deal good for multiple visits. I was pretty skeptical when I first showed up due to its rinky-dink establishment, but eating multiple meals here quickly made me forget about that. I always get a small platter(1 entrée and 2 sides), which is the perfect amount of food for lunch. The take-out container appears small, but the food is pretty heavy and packed with flavor. I’ve tried all the sides and have liked them all, but I personally think that they entrees are the stars here. My absolute favorite is the avocado nori wrap — it’s unbelievably delicious and knocked me off my feet when I first bit into it. About the flavor: the first few bites of the food are pure heaven, but I have trouble finishing everything without drinking some water because the flavors are too strong. It’s a difficult experience to describe, but similar to when you eat too much salty food. I’m not sure if this a natural characteristic of raw food or if it’s specific to Khepra’s. In sum, despite all appearances, don’t be afraid to try this place out. Most of the foods are served cafeteria-style, so you see exactly what’s getting scooped into your box. Other foods(like the avocado wrap) are wrapped and prepared on the spot. There’s normally only one lady working the small booth preparing food, so you might have to wait a while if you come at a busy time. I haven’t had to wait at all during most of my visits, but one time I came around noon and ended up waiting for 20 – 30 minutes behind 3 or 4 people. Also, plan on getting your food to-go, as the interior doesn’t have much seating and is set up strangely. I probably won’t come here again after I use up my deal because it’s out of the way for me and a little pricey(my takeout boxes would have cost $ 12 each without the deal). Nevertheless, I’m glad that I went out on a limb to buy this deal!
