The Liege waffles are amazing! They’ve ruined my ability to enjoy waffles anywhere else. Great service too.

Bad Service. Food Decent Went to Brunch here a few Saturdays ago with 3 friends. Although we asked to sit outside and were fine with the wait, we were still asked multiple times whether we would sit inside. After the 3rd or 4th time, we said whatever, and went to eat inside. The server gave us a hard time for our coffee’s which we had purchased from the neighboring coffee shop and were drinking while we waited. We bought these coffee’s while we were still figuring out where to eat brunch, and the server made a tantrum as if we bought the coffee’s to personally afflict him. Anyways, we still bought drinks and food. The brunch menu items were tasty and fair proportions, but one of our friends ordered 9 $ panini, which was absolutely miniature. It was about 4 bites worth and almost seemed like a joke. After being coaxed inside rather than patio and being made uncomfortable by our moody server from the get go about our coffees, we then asked to have the bill split. Apparently this is impossible for a 21st century restaurant to accommodate. Overall just poor service. Management needs to hire friendly servers or properly train their current staff. It does seem like a cool place, and I’d be willing to try it again if I had a different server. BTW the buy 2 get 2 mimosa deal is for 10 or 11 $ mimosas, which in my book, isn’t much of a deal for the amount of mimosa deals in the area.

This is why i love Unilocal.4.5 stars right on the money. I’m visiting dc and since this place was rated high, we came for brunch. I had parmesan and prosciutto on a garlic waffle and my gf had smoked salmon with grilled asparagus on a pesto waffle. We both loved our dishes. The garlic waffle with the saltiness of the prosciutto was perfect. My gf’s dish was really well balanced and the flavors exceeded expectations. For dessert we had some macaroons, and chocolate caramels with Himalayan sea salt or Hawaiian black salt. Then they gave us complimentary strawberry pomegranate chocolates which ended up being the best of the three! All in all a cute place with delicious foods and desserts. Forgot to mention the Mimosas were good too! What’s better than waffles, great chocolate, and Mimosas? Also our server was super nice and made some great spot on suggestions

I didn’t know that this restaurant is part of the Le Pain Quotidien restaurant group; I came here just to get their hot Milk Chocolate to go — it was made with hot milk mixed with milk chocolate — steamed milk and then mixed with the chocolate chips from the ‘milkshake’ contraption. Service was friendly, and I could see some delicious-looking pastries in the case. The drink was good and it wasn’t overly sweet — you can taste some ‘graininess’ in the drink, but it was nice and thick and had good flavor. I’m curious to try out their other hot beverages, such as the White Chocolate, Caramel Chocolate, and even their Chocolate Lattes & Cappuccinos. A cute small café to get a hot beverage and dessert. +part of Le Pain Quotidien

I would highly suggest going here the next time you wake up on a saturday or sunday and the weather is pleasant enough to sit outside. The patio is a decent size, but its an awesome corner to enjoy the morning. Its a fairly quaint café on the inside. A little cramped if its full, and you’re stepping in to be seated. — My experience was«eh.» I walked in and could immediately evaluate that the 3 servers working were full on in the weeds. So I was a minor victim of avoiding eye contact so they could almost pretend they didn’t have one more thing to do, «Ooh noo… not another one. He looks hungry. Eeek.» — Damn right I look hungry. I saw the menu. I knew they had waffles I had never heard of, and dammit, I wanted one. Eventually a cool guy told me he’d be right w/me(but I did stand there being looked off for quite some time — Otherwise, this place gets 5 stars, For.Sure.). (+) I tried the GARLICWAFFLE w/PESTO &TURKEYEGGS on top. Pretty.Damn.Good. — The garlic wasn’t as strong as I expected/hoped, but it was still a great brunch. Even the side salad was good. (-) I wasn’t a big fan of the ONIONSOUP. It wasn’t bad. But it wasn’t nearly as great as I wanted it to be. Taste: 8.5 Quality: 10 Presentation: 9 Service: 8(the gentlemen who did wait on me was worth a 10), but the 2 ladies… Cleanliness: 10 Atmosphere: 9 Value $: 9 Comparative: 8.5 Personal Opinion: 9 Overall: 9(A-)

Not one of the best meals I had on our first visit to DC. I had a few issues here when we went here. Ok maybe just two. First, too damn expensive for what it is. Plus, either the server lady gave the kitchen a wrong order or the kitchen staff mess it up, as the the three quiches on my quiche plate were not what I ordered. The green waffle with smoked salmon was delish though. Btw the quiches were tasty enough, but probably the best choice I could have made, as apparently I am lactose intolerant in the US and the quiches, as seen in the photo, were very cheesy and creamy!

Unilocalers, as an out-of-towner, I can honestly say your popular tips are correct: the Hot chocolate was amazing, and my ciabatta sandwich was droolworthy. Decently-priced, too! Beware, though: this is a small café! Plan accordingly. This place is a little quaint café tucked away in the adams morgan neighborhood. I was visiting from out of town, and actually came to this place twice during my 2 day trip because I thought it was so good. I shared with my partner the banana tart, ciabatta sandwich, and hot chocolate. The hot chocolate was rich and not sickeningly sweet. My sandwich was big, served with herbed ciabatta bread(it’s not just plain ciabatta), lots of cheese, and great herbed scrambled eggs. The banana tart was also one of the best I’ve had! My only gripe is the size. My friends and I had to wait 30 – 40 minutes on a Sunday morning to get a table because the place is just too small.

Everyone raves about the waffles(for good reason — they are delicious, especially with a scoop of ice cream) but I want to give a shout-out to the omelettes! They come out more like omelet soufflés — $ 8.95 for a three-egg, fluffy omelet with 3 toppings, plus scallions, and a side salad. Looks a bit like a pizza coming out, but so, so good. Also, they melt chocolate pieces into steamed milk to make their hot chocolate(instead of powder, syrup, etc.). Dark chocolate hot chocolate(or cold hot chocolate in the summer) is my go-to — it’s my favorite hot chocolate spot in DC.

I can see why everyone loves it. Cozy space inside and outside patio area as well. Lots of creative menu options for brunch. I chose a potato waffle topped with pesto scrambled eggs. Absolutely delicious. The beer selection looks great and they have some good happy hour deals on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in addition to a muscle pot special on Thursday nights. I plan on returning for sure!

Wanted to try their chocolates so I got a box of 8 for $ 20. They have nice gift boxes as well that you can fill. Most of the shelf was empty, so try getting there early. So happy they still had the salted caramel chocolate because that is just heaven in your mouth. Salted caramel –5 stars Coconut –3 stars Strawberry chocolate –3 stars Raspberry dark chocolate –3 stars Praline– 3 stars Dark chocolate truffle –3 stars Almond chocolate truffle –3.5 stars Basically I only really loved the salted caramel, the others didn’t compare. The filling on the others need work. The service was great and everyone working was really nice!

Decadence is the word. Extra-sweet liege waffle with Belgian chocolate chips baked in, covered in maple syrup? Yes please. Plenty of other options as well. If you never though hot chocolate was the sort of thing you’d get at a restaurant, think again. They also carry Fentiman’s sodas, which are hard to find and delicious. I haven’t got much into the non-breakfast options, but there’s a lot of paninis and savory waffles to try. Seating is mostly outdoors. It’s just off of the busy part of 18th St. Very nice place for a Sunday brunch. They’re a bakery and chocolatier as well as a café. I’ve yet to try a cake but their truffles were well accepted by my discriminating gift recipient. Definitely nice to have a place like this in the neighborhood.

Yum… I’m still thinking about this place even though it’s been over a month since I went to Locolat! This café is cute cute cute! There’s outdoor seating so I say take advantage of that if it’s a nice day. I went here for brunch with my sister and we both loved what we got… waffles with eggs = must get! Oh yeah, I LOVE eggs. I got the potato and chive waffle with green herb scrambled eggs… you hear green herbs and you immediately think«what the…» right? Well its beyond delicious and I would say they make it soooo good it makes me want to look the recipe up online to make some at home when I can’t make it here! It’s a mixture of greens(as the name says) with just the right amount of fluffy eggs. It goes right with the waffle! I’m not a huge fan of the salad dressing that comes with the waffle/eggs on the side and would order it on the side next time. Their liege waffle = must try! It is sweet though — almost should save it for dessert. We also got an apple tart which was okay… it wasn’t very sweet as we expected a tart. Should’ve ordered some chocolate huh? Will be back next time to get herb scrambled eggs again :)

I went at 10am on Thursday morning and the croissants and eclairs were already gone. I opted for the 20 piece chocolate box with some interesting sounding pieces like single origin from Venezuela thats 70% dark, white chocolate with hawaiian sea salt and cayenne pepper. Haven’t tried it yet since the box is so cutely wrapped complete with curly ended red ribbons. I am trying the chocolate almond tart and though its a tad too sweet for me, I love the frangipane and chunks of dark chocolate on this tart. Perfect dose after my ordeal of two canceled flights. Hopefully I will be able to be back here to try the different waffles next time

I cannot believe I hadn’t heard of this place before now. I just got back from my first trip to Locolat and I assure you it will NOT be my last! This adorable little café in Adam’s Morgan is so intimate and nice. I went at a fairly«off» hour, so it wasn’t crowded at all, but I can imagine that it really fills up on the weekends. I got a dark chocolate latte(SO good!), and an éclair. The eclairs are huuuuuge! I was only able to tackle half of it(probably a good thing, actually, haha) and had to box up the rest to bring home. I also sampled some of the macaroons that my friend got, and they were to DIE for. Seriously, maybe the best pistachio macaroon I’ve ever had. And I set a high bar for them, so… yeah. This place reminds me a lot of Natalia’s Elegant Creations in Falls Church — similar in terms of all the baked delicacies on display, the cozy and intimate feeling(there are only a handful of tables), though it has a much larger and more diverse menu. The waiter was also super friendly. Highly recommend! Given that I only had sweets this time around, I intend to go back to sample their brunch menu ASAP.

One of the best and varied brunch menus i I have come across! I loved my eggs Florentine over waffle and my BFF loved her Smoked Salmon over waffles and little man loved his sweet waffles and herb eggs(as a side note, this kid doesn’t usually finish all his food) and was very, very pleased with his brunch meal. Skip the coffees and indulge in the delicious hot chocolates. My personal choice is the Cappuccino Hot Chocolate. It’s to die for and the special surprise is finding the little chucks of chocolate at the bottom of your cup… I hope no one witnessed my tongue action! My compliments to the Belgian Chef for bringing this to us! BTW, are you married? Do you need a Green Card? Do you like Latinas?

One of kind in DC. It’s like a store selling beer and chocolate and some pastries but I felt so comfortable and joyful to sit and hang out… How odd… This charming café does magic to make you want to sit and stay for long time to relax… and make you wish that you have a date with you . Come by to grab a cup of Belgian coffee/hot chocolate, Belgian(non-Belgian) beer or glass of wine. Food was great. Simple scrambled egg was very light and fluffy. If you get egg and waffle dish, waffle can be a bit less-crispy if you put egg on top of waffle. Just FYI. Still good though. Not cheap but it’s worth having brunch or espresso drinks here. PS: Not a place for group dining. There are only about 10(for 2) tables.

Look for the weather-beaten, sun-bleached banner hanging on the building, or you’ll miss it! The café was small, but we were immediately seated on a beautiful Sunday at noon. I had the eggs benedict on a pizzicosa vegetable piccante waffle, and my friend had a prosciutto and parmesan on garlic waffle. I was pleasantly surprised by the presentation. Each waffle came with a side of salad, which was quite good. The eggs on my benedict were beautifully poached, but unfortunately, that’s as impressive as the dish got for me. The ham on the benedict looked like it came out of an oscar mayer package, which wasn’t surprising nor particularly disappointing. What saddened me was the«hollandaise sauce,» which looked and tasted like nothing more than whipped egg whites. There was not a hint of creaminess, and all it did was sog up my waffle while adding no taste. While I didn’t try it, my friend’s prosciutto and parmesan looked much better – the waffle stayed fluffy, most likely as it didn’t have a wet egg mixture weighing it down. But what Locolat failed to deliver in it’s savory waffle department, it made up for in its dessert department. The cakes didn’t look particularly appealing, but we ordered a slice of Quadrupel Cake to fill the empty table as we continued to chat over coffee after our meal. The textures were expertly executed, comprising of firm but fluffy whipped chocolate layers, creamy filling, and a cocoa dusting that didn’t soak up the moisture of the whipped cake inside. I hear the sweet waffles and chocolates are very good as well, so stick to the sweets. Oh, and another thing that made our visit much more enjoyable was our waiter. I didn’t catch his name, but he was very familiar with each menu item, and seemed genuinely excited about the dishes he was explaining. He didn’t hesitate to give us his personal opinions, and while they were apparently quite different from mine, I appreciated his enthusiasm.

Locolat Café has become my #1 recommendation restaurant — in the mood for something different? Locolat. A good place for beer? Locolat. Want something sweet? Locolat. Breakfast at IHOP? What… Locolat! Their brunch menu is still my favorite since I think the egg/waffle combos are A) delicious, and 2) cheap. I’ve reluctantly begun branching out for variety’s sake but have been pleased every time. Take the Ultimate Waffle Burger — you guessed it, a burger with essentially waffle as the bun, and a sunnyside egg on top — genius! Don’t leave without taking something sweet home. The sweets within the case are transfixing and it’s always hard to choose. No bad choice yet. Oh, it’s Cinco de Mayo? Go to Locolat!

My sister visited me over Labor Day weekend and I definitely wanted to bring her to some nice places. I had seen a review of Locolat Café and how their hot chocolate was really, REALLY good and a «ding-ding-ding!» went off in my head. My sister LOVES hot chocolate. We went for Brunch on a Saturday, somewhere around 10−11AM. It wasn’t quite busy yet, and the staff were nice. DRINKS: Hot chocolate: my sister ordered(obviously) milk hot chocolate. Sister LOVED it. I tasted it– I thought it was a little on the thin side(I expected it creamier) but if it pleased her, then I have no complaints. :) Curiosity Cola: I’m undeniably a soda person. When I asked, they said they had botanically brewed sodas. I thought, «hm, ok, well, why not?» The Curiosity Cola has essentially the same taste as Coca Cola but is not as carbonated, and has a subtle herbal botanical undertone, which I actually really, REALLY liked. I honestly could not get enough of it. I would’ve taken one(or more) home with me if not for the fact that we were headed to the National Zoo next. MEAL: Trio of Quiches: Sister ordered the trio of quiches, and was able to choose between a variety of types; she ended up(I think) picking mushroom & bacon, three cheeses, spinach with ham. Her dish arrived in a long platter with small-medium squares of quiches that looked freshly out of the oven and a side of salad with lightly drizzled vinaigrette. Tried some– very yummy! Note: my sister actually wanted to initially get the puff pastry dish, but they were out. What a bummer. :C It’s ok though– her trio of quiches turned out quite well! Savory Waffle(Potato & Chives) with Pesto Scrambled Eggs: I saw that people recommended this, so I went for it. Waffle was good, and Pesto scrambled eggs were also good… for the first few bites. After a while, the pesto scrambled eggs started tasting bland and leaving a pasty feeling on my tongue. Not my favorite. I wish I had gone for another plate that I had been eying. The plate also came with a salad with, again, lightly drizzled vinaigrette, which I loved. Sister doesn’t like salads, so I got hers(Score!). Overall, I’d go again, but would try to avoid busy times. We waited for our check for awhile because a lot of people came in. 3.5÷5, rounded up to 4 for the awesome Curiosity Cola that I have now discovered. :D

**4.5 stars** Great brunch, dessert, and coffee spot! Although it was a little difficult to find and only had street parking available, Locolat Café definitely hit the spot. My sister and I came here for brunch on a weekday and everything we tried was delicious. DARKCHOCOLATELATTE: rich, thick, and delicious! My sister thought it was a bit bitter, but I love dark chocolate so I enjoyed it. POTATOANDCHIVEWAFFLE with ASPARAGUS/SMOKED SALMON: the menu can be a bit confusing, but basically, you can choose what type of waffle you want and what you would like on top of it. This item was my favorite… it was savory with just the right amount of lox on top and a side salad PESTOWAFFLE with EGGSBENEDICT: good hollandaise sauce, but the ham was a bit salty FRUITTART: very small… just OK in my opinion Service was friendly but slow-sh because the restaurant was busy(total around 8 tables). I can’t wait to return to try more items on the menu!
