Update: I just noticed after writing my review that this place closed down at the end of March! That was pretty soon after I visited. So sad! I wish the owners luck in the future dining endeavors! My original review: I’m conflicted. I want to support this local joint because the food alone deserves a 5 star rating, but the atmosphere really kills this place(not that I know how it’s been performing, to be fair). I’ve passed by many times and wondered why the place was not more full. It’s possible that on some nights this place manages to seat more people in the back/upstairs area, hidden away from the main street, but the back areas were dark and empty during my visit. This location is the former Town Hall. They’ve been at this location for at least 6 months, but the décor is very minimalist. There was no music in the background, which made it a strangely quiet place despite there being at least 4 tables seated and folks at the bar. The TVs were on but silenced with closed captioning… and I wouldn’t advocate turning on the TV sound, but some noise would be welcomed. I like the bar area… it’s nice, but more personality is needed in this place. It needs to complement the food. The food is very tasty. I had a short rib dish, and my parents both had seafood dishes which were very flavorful. I forgot which dish it was, but there was one that my table and one other table wanted to have, and it was early in the evening, but they said they«ran out» of the ingredients… that raised some flags of whether they were being truthful or if it wa was a sign that the restaurant was going downhill. The calamari was lightly battered, which was good… but it wasn’t as flavorful as the rest of the dishes. I wish this place luck and hope more people check it out to enjoy the food, but I hope the owners put more into creating an atmosphere for this place to attract more attention.

I was rather disappointed with the experience here. I heard mix reviews about the place, but decided to give it a shot when one of my friends was visiting. We showed up around 9pm on a Saturday night and the place was empty. This should have been a warning sign. We were greeted and the seater attempted to make us sit at the bar. Thankfully my friend protested and they set up a table for us. The whole encounter was strange considering it was almost empty. Atmostphere didn’t make sense either. The service from here got better and the food was relatively quick to come out. Unfortunately, the food did not impress us. We split the fried calamari appetizer to start. The calamari came right out of the breading when picked up! I had the chicken burger, which was really small considering the oversized bun. The taste did not make me want to return. Fries were decent. I was very disappointed by the vegetarian options despite the advertisement of a new vegetarian menu. There were only 2 choices and neither sounded appetizing. I remember one being a meat Mac and Cheese without the meat. May give this place another shot for brunch, but definitely not dinner.

I guess this place is owned by a Top Chef contestant. Could’ve fooled me. The place is nice and calm, but it’s a bit drab. Our server was nice enough. A little cracked out though — she told us if we didn’t like the toast, that we could throw it at her. I ordered the 2218 or whatever it was called omelette. It had avocados, grated cheese, tomatoes in it. But none of the insides of the omelet were cooked. It was as if they cooked a flat omelette in the pan, removed the egg and placed it on a plate, and then placed the toppings inside, and folded it over. The grated cheddar wasn’t melted at all. I’ve never had an omelette like that before, and I never will. Because I won’t be coming back here. I guess this person was a Top Chef contestant because they cook things wrong, and then call it thought provoking cuisine? Non melted cheese in an omelette is definitely a 1st world problem, but I can see why this chef is no Top Chef.

The food was just not good… got the turkey sandwich and the turkey was really dry. My friends steak sandwhich he swears was on wonderbread. The. «brookie» dessert was hard and dry and the peanut butter frosting was pure peanut butter. We unfortunately will not be coming back.

Really enjoyed the food and service. We had a pecan/bacon-flavored bison burger that was delicious without being too heavy. Our fried leeks and Wellington steak bits apps were also perfectly cooked and savory. Smart craft beer selection too. High marks for this Glover Park find.

What a gem! We just had dinner and both my husband and I were amazed at how good the food was. Though quiet, the staff was attentive without being pushy, Chef Emily came to check in with us, and they were super kind about our 10 month old daughter making a slight commotion. As displaced Chicagoans, my husband and I have been sorely missing a family friendly pub, where mom and dad can still have a good beer, great food and not feel like we are confined to the five guys of the world. We for sure be back, and can’t wait to bring our friends. Since they open at 7:30 am on the weekends, we are anxious to try the breakfast(another thing we miss from Chicago… solid breakfast). Regarding the food– have to say it was perfectly cooked, seasoned, and presented. Can’t say enough how we impressed we were with this neighborhood place. Just what Glover Park(and us!) needed!

Recently went with friends to Mayfair & Pine and had a terrific experience! Executive chef, Emily Sprissler, came out of the kitchen to meet us and some of the other patrons. The bartender, Elijah, was very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. We ordered the HH beer specials($ 2 beers!!) and appetizers. Elijah brought out some delicious honey biscuits and dinner rolls while we waited for the first round of appetizers. The beef Wellington was dynamite… so we ordered two more of them. The leek fritters were good, as well. Bonus — the place has a private room with its own bar and bathrooms upstairs, making this a perfect venue for a fundraiser or board meeting. Double bonus — M & P shows soccer matches… so this is also a great place for football fans who want a great brunch on the weekend! I will return to M & P soon. Kate S.

Mayfair & Pine was okay. I know, not very descriptive or insightful. But that’s what it was, it was okay. A few friends and I stopped by here after a few drinks and picked out a few appetizers and entrees to share, along with a bottle of wine. I’ve definitely had worse orders of calamari and spinach artichoke dip, but at the same time, I’ve had much better. Our order of the braised short ribs was better, but I don’t know if I’d consider it a standout dish. What I would give them some props though was their citrus roasted chicken. It’s very easy to make a bad chicken, not necessarily that easy to make a good one. But if after a few weeks, I still remember that their chicken was good, that’s a positive in my book. But if the food was solid, I was less sure about the theme and décor of the restaurant. The food clearly screams gastropub, but I couldn’t really tell. Not that décor or ambiance is necessarily the most important factor, but it definitely helps make a dining experience more enjoyable. With all that said, Mayfair & Pine was okay. I don’t normally make it to Glover Park for meals, but if I was down there again, there are definitely worse places to go.

There are some very good executions at this English-styled gastropub. The appetizers like the leek fritters and beef wellington nibbles are pretty tasty. The sandwich entrees are also good choices in their dinner menu. The shepherd’s pie and onion tart are curiously small portioned. A good spot to catch regional euro soccer matches if you’re in the area.

Full disclosure: we’re friends with the owners, but we ordered from the menu and paid for our meal like everyone else. I’m excluding service from my review because we were sitting with the owners at times, so we didn’t receive the typical service. That said I feel I’m entitled to share both my praise and criticism. If Mayfair & Pine didn’t deserve my 4.5 star rating(rounded up, my one and only friendly courtesy), my review would have been conveniently«forgotten». Parking was a bit of a pain due to a construction project which was scheduled to finish the day after we left. I found a spot around the corner and did not need to pay for garage parking across the street. My wife now tells me I could have parked directly in front of the restaurant and that I’m an idiot for not reading the times on the construction signs more carefully. The dining room is charming with ample seating and a full service bar. There are also rooms in the back and on the second floor for larger parties or events. For dinner we ordered the Beef Wellington Nibbles appetizer, which was delicious. I will admit I was expecting 2 – 4 bite-sized portions instead of the single portion which needed to be cut into bites, but that wasn’t a big deal. I have a weakness for Fish and Chips, so despite my flirting with some of the other, arguably more sophisticated items on the menu, I ordered the Fish and Chips. Certainly not a bad decision as it was quite good. The batter was crispy without being overly saturated in oil, the fish was tasty without being fishy, and the chips were addicting. I was pleased with the Old Fashioned from the bar. The bite I had of my wife’s Chicken sandwich was good, with a nice balance between moist chicken and other flavors. The kids meals were generously portioned, maybe even too large for younger kids. The tiramisu was a bit tart for my taste, but not terrible. I’m kicking myself for not getting the fired apple pies – I must not have made it down the list that far. The«Brookie» was enormous and tasty with just a bit of crunch on the outside. Finding the cookie hiding inside the brownie proved to be a bit of a challenge. The next day we came back for a solid breakfast. We ordered coffee, french toast, pancakes, eggs, and bacon. The pancakes were huge and cooked just right – fluffy but not dry. I almost always skip buttering my pancakes, but the maple butter wouldn’t stop staring me down, so on it went. My wife and kids enjoyed their breakfasts as well. I’m certainly looking forward to another visit to Mayfair & Pine.

Went to dinner here on a weeknight and think it’s a great addition to Glover Park. Everything we had was delicious and the biscuits they give you are really absolute perfection. I do agree with other posts that they could expand the beer menu to give it more of a gastropub feel, but on the other side the wine list is large, reasonable and the bartender was very knowledgable and helpful in assisting us in trying wines before we settled on a bottle. The people at Mayfair & Pine truly care about the food and drink they are serving you. Will definitely be back, and encourage others to give it a try.

Place has a great new feel to it and very appealing. Sat at the bar and got a chance to speak to the owners Emily and Jason. Decided to order the Proper English breakfast $ 9 and it hit the spot… fresh scrambled eggs, thick bacon, baked beans, thick juicy bangers(sausages), fried tomatoes and thick toast. The sausages stood out as they were plump, juicy and delicious!!! Several omelettes and griddle dishes on the menu too. I hear there are amazing! sandwiches and burgers too so will definitely be back. This block definitely needed a fresh face!!!

I am hard to please. I know this, but I was feeling nothing short of ethereal walking out of Mayfair and Pine last weekend. Mayfair and Pine is a perfect example of a gastropup. It’s the kind of place that welcomes you to be a regular. The staff was very accommodating, and gave us just the right amount of space while being attentive. It was also interesting to talk to our waiter because you could get the sense that he proud of the food there. The décor is somewhat dark, but in a good way. It reminded me of the times I snuck back into the kitchen at night to get some delicious leftovers. It’s a comforting kind of dining experience filled with plenty of charm and I thought was very reasonably priced. They have a nice wine menu and we opted for a merlot. I loved it. Will go back to get the name of it. For apps: –The leek fritters were so good. At first I had one and thought it was just fine, then I had another, and another and I didn’t stop until they were gone and realized that obviously really liked them. The cucumber sauce to accompany was divine, I’m considering going there now for some. –Fried calamari. the calamari was fresh, but I didn’t like the sauce to accompany, simply because I really do like marinara with fried calamari. The sauce was delicious but I would have preferred it with something else. But my companions loved it. –Bread and butter comes with the meal like a lot of restaurants, however here it was like crack in a basket. The biscuit was so perfect I can’t begin, and the garlicky butter to accompany was marvelous. There was a piece of toast in there as well but I wasn’t interested in anything but that biscuit. All the bread is made in house which explains the quality. Dinner: –Cioppino, the broth was hearty and incredibly flavorful, with each bite I could taste something new: the wine, tomatoes, garlic, fennel, thyme.. The seafood in it was fresh and tender. Delightful. I am excited for more cold weather so I can keep ordering it. –Fish and chips, The fish had just the right amount of batter so it was crispy, golden and very fresh. The fries were really great on their own, but dipped in my leftover sauce they were awesome. –Scallops with quinoa. I don’t know if fairies made this, but I am coming back for this dish. It was unbelievably good, simple and well executed, I loved everything about it. Dessert:-The star of the meal: –The tiramisu. I wanted to crawl into it and stay there forever. It was one of the best I have ever had. Period. I made my companions quite uncomfortable with every moan I made after each bite. Go there now and get it. Seriously, go now. I’ll be back this weekend for brunch this time, and for dinner again…

Went to the grand opening, and as another reviewer said, the AC was malfunctioning and that created some problems. Service from our waiter, Elijah, was just perfect. The guy has such a great personality, and he makes sure that you’re well taken care of. The corn soup is simply yummy! Be sure to give that one a try. My husband had the Thansgiving sandwich which he enjoyed and I had the sea bass. The salsa that accompanied my fish was unusual and flavorful. Chef Emily is a local girl, born and raised in Northern Virginia, as well as being a top chef contestant back in season 2. It would be great to see this hometown kid(and her wonderful husband) succeed. I know we’ll be back for more gastronomic treats from Mayfair and Pine.

Having long enjoyed Café Olé’s nicely seasoned and grilled lamb burgers for years, I was excited by a Post review mentioning them at M&P. So I dropped by to try one out. Big disappointment. For nearly $ 15(!) I received a largish hunk of ground lamb in a bun. What it offered in size it lacked in flavor. The melted manchego overpowered whatever seasoning might have been in the meat, giving it an overall sour taste. Yech! Accompanying fries, lettuce and tomato were totally run-of-the-mill.(No English chips here). Save yourself $ 5 and head N on Wisconsin Ave to Café Olé for the real thing!

Mayfair and Pine wasn’t a bad place to eat but it left something to be desired. You might consider it a metaphor for British cuisine. The interior had artwork from places around London, but it didn’t take the design across the finish line. Our waiter was attentive at times, and absent at others. The bar menu had a couple English ale offerings, but not enough selection to give you the British experience; the same goes for the menu. The food and drink here were fine. But M&P needs something to make it stand out and draw people to it.

Ordered the corn & crab soup(a fave of mine here), & the lamb burger. The star of the show turned out to be the fries. I will go to the grave talking about how AMAZING these fries were. Unreal. And I’m not a fries kinda person, but I couldn’t get enough of these. Fries from heaven. Get them!

I was impressed and will recommend to friends: Pro’s: –Great atmosphere — good crowd and the chef came out numerous times to personally welcome customers. –Servers and wait staff were very professional and were very«on top of their game» –The food was very good — simple yet flavorful and filling –Great wine selection Con’s: –Very limited beer selection… and quite pricey. Not a «happy hour» hang out. –Has great potential, but needs to take their game to the next level to survive. I would suggest more advertising and promotions to bring in more customers. Although the crowd was great, I was surprised that the space was only half filled(at best).

I attended the Soft Grand Opening. There were a number of highs(turkey sandwich, corn soup, bar service) as well as a number of lows(A/C malfunction, lengthy lulls between passed appetizers). However, the space was nice and the location was great so I truly look forward to returning when all the kinks are worked out and the full menu is available.
