After many years of being a loyal customer, I will no longer return to Midtown Cleaners. I recently had a terrible experience. For starters, the service isn’t particularly friendly. I kinda blew this off for a while because I figured, hey, it’s my neighborhood spot. But after my experience last weekend, I’m done. My girlfriend asked the woman who owns the place to tailor a basic jersey dress. She paid about $ 30+ and was very unsatisfied in the workmanship. The stitching was coming loose, and the top band of the dress was unevenly tight.(The right side near her arm was extremely tight and the left side was a bit looser). When the seamstress sewed the dress back together, the seams on the side were uneven — it is a striped dress, so the stripes were off set. It’s not so much that the workmanship was terrible — it’s that when my girlfriend stated that she was unsatisfied, the woman didn’t bother to correct her mistakes or offer to reduce the price. She blamed the material and brushed off the fact that the new seams were coming undone, claiming that it would not make a difference. She told my girlfriend that she could pay an additional $ 35 for it to get«fixed.» She never apologized for the error or admitted to ruining the dress — even after my girlfriend showed her a picture of the original dress — in a photo from a recent beach trip. In addition to all this, the woman who owns the place is always claiming that she cant get stains out. She’ll look at something and say«uuuhhh I don’t think I can get that stain out.» It’s not once in a while — it’s regularly. So, now she can’t sew, can’t get out stains, she overcharges customers and she doesn’t have good service. So why bother?

Midtown Cleaners is less than impressive – no same day service, a $ 15 credit card minimum, and spot cleaning is an extra $ 5 per shirt. If you need something in the area, you’re better off making the walk to Kim’s Cleaners in DuPont.

Hang(the owner) is amazing. She’s kind, accountable, and does great work. I honestly haven’t found a better tailor and her prices aren’t outrageous given how quickly and well she handles alterations. I’m picky about my places and take a ton of clothes to get fitted, and she’s the best I’ve found in DC.

Midtown Cleaners is located on P St, next to 7-Eleven. The service is mildly friendly, with an emphasis on ending your transaction ASAP. The turn around time is decent(drop off Monday, pick up Friday type deal) but the price is too expensive. Not only are they charging more for womens shirts(ILLEGAL!!), but to repair a VERY small hole in a cotton sweater they wanted to charge me $ 25. Whoa.(They won’t dry clean it without repairing it, so I took it home and put it in the washer.) Though its super close to my house, I’m sticking with the dry cleaners over on Wisconsin next to Café Bonaparte.
