I think we must have had one of their best waiters. He was super helpful with recommending their specialties, we literally just ordered everything he said and it was spot on. The Burrata was my favorite thing they served, I didn’t try the calf heart but the people that did loved it. Escargot hush puppies were rich and delicious. The desserts were the next best thing, the key lime pie is out of this world, never had anything quite like that. For the entrees, I think the Seabream was the best(we tried the Risotta, burger, and pork chop) Burger was amazing and cooked perfectly and excellent fries. And they have an AWESOME kids menu!

5 stars for their Happy Hour. 5:30−7 Tuesday– Friday at the bar, they have $ 4 draft beers, $ 5 house wine, $ 8 featured cocktail, and discounts on a good portion of their menu. They gave me complimentary bread to start, which was warm and crusty and perfect. I wanted to try something unique, so I got the calf’s heart country salad. Delicious! It contained chunks of calf heart meat atop greens, roasted cauliflower, croutons, and a poached egg, with a dijon vinaigrette. The meat was very lean and tasty, not funky at all(I was worried it would have a weird taste like liver). And the salad, an appetizer size, was a substantial portion. I then got the key lime pie, which was topped with whipped cream and pomegranate seeds(It seems like they top it with a seasonal fruit– in the warmer months, kiwi!). I’m a key lime pie aficionado, and this was right up there with the best I’ve had. Service was excellent from both the kitchen and the bartender, Matthew. Ambiance was classy but laid-back. Happy Hour prices were a great deal. I left feeling super satisfied. Can’t wait to come back!

So I decided to come during Winter 2016 Restaurant Week and finally try a neighborhood favorite. The place was absolutely packed– so glad I had reservations well in advance. They truly cram every possible inch of floor space with a table/chair setup. So much so that it was a game of Tetris to try and get out. That being said, they seated us in an interestingly contrived seating«area» that was actually a table wedged between two other tables at the bench corner. Cozy. We started with the«kale Burrata salad» (Burrata, kales, hazelnut, apple & tamarind) & the«steak tartar.» Both were absolutely phenomenal. The kale salad is not helped about merciless for no reason — it’s the perfect blend of crispy and sautéed kale with a sizable dollop of Burrata cheese to round it out. My boyfriend inhaled it and decided then and there he would die trying to recreate that salad. It was also a large portion, and I think he would have been content to just eat that. I loved my tartar– the«slaw» dressed atop it was the perfect accompaniment. For entrees I had the Seabream(Seabream, spinach, shrimp & mussel saffron velouté). OMG. That was the most heavenly sauce I’ve ever had. I didn’t even want to share it– I dreamed about it. Get this! Get it now! My boyfriend tried the Orecchiette(orecchiette, rabbit ragu, chanterelle mushroom). He loved it. I however had a strong issue with the«Ragu” — as many other help reviewers do. It’s not actually a Ragu so much as a thin gravy like sauce. He liked it because it felt light and healthy– I expected an actual thick Ragu sauce. For dessert I sampled the bread pudding– phenomenal. He has the house sorbet which I will say was very very delicious. I did greatly enjoy this first restaurant week stop– but not sure how I feel about the place, might need a second sampling.

I went for DC Winter Restaurant Week 2016. I had been wanting to go for a long time and I’m glad I finally made it. Restaurant Week, though usually a terrible time to visit restaurants, wasn’t so bad here because pretty much the full menu was available which was really awesome. First off, I love the ambiance here. I would describe it as a «special birthday dinner» sort of ambiance. I think others would agree with me because there were like 5 birthdays that happened around me while I ate dinner. The service was really good too. For my meal I started with the escargot hush puppies. I gather that these are pretty famous here and they definitely didn’t disappoint. My only complaint about them is it would have been nice if the snails were chopped up before they were baked in the hush puppies, it would have made them a little easier to eat. The sauce with them was fabulous. My friend got the kale and burrata salad which was really good — I loved the crispy kale. My other friend got the grilled octopus which was a special for the night — definitely the most tender octopus I’ve ever tried. For my main course I got the seabream. I had never had seabream but it was a really delicious white fish. The whole dish was unfortunately a little bland. The shrimp & mussel saffron velouté was delicious with some of the sweetest shrimp I’ve ever eaten, and I think more of it would have really improved the dish. I tried my friend’s orrecchiette which was really nice too. My other friend got the special which was steak and it was so tough she couldn’t finish it. For my dessert I had the brownie sundae which was the biggest letdown of my meal. It looked really pretty and fun but ultimately it wasn’t more special than any other brownie sundae I’ve ever had. Having the brownie served warm would have done a lot towards elevating this dish. Overall, I loved the ambiance and service of Mintwood and although the food was a slight disappointment I’m willing to blame it on it being Restaurant Week where the food is always not really as good as the rest of the year. So I would definitely go back.

This is my favorite restaruant in the Adams mogan area. Excellent service very consistent and always fast to make the food. The waiters don’t rush you and are very helpful. Everything on the menu is divine. Highly reccomend going here for a nice dinner.

Service: made reservations(highly recommended). The restaurant is super busy especially on weekends. Service was great and our waiter was super helpful with explaining the dishes that we were curious about. Price: I would say ~$ 10 – 15 for small bites and appetizers. Dinner menu ~$ 20 – 30, desserts ~$ 10 Tips: they do give you amazing homemade bread so you may just want to order and share an appetizer. Also, appetizers are small portions. What to order: Brussels sprouts app was spectacular. Just order it, even though the portion is tiny, the flavor and execution is not something you want to pass on! Amazing sauce underneath the Brussels sprouts! What we ordered: rabbit pasta — wasn’t amazing, but wasn’t bad either, if could have used a little more sauce to hold it all together but ended up being more dry. Bacon burger– nothing surprising, just an average burger for $ 19. Veal snitzel — tender but didn’t come with a sauce so it left it kind of try. It does come paired with polenta, kale and an egg(problem is these don’t go well together as a whole… Almost like random sides placed together just for presentation).

Mintwood Place is lovely. It’s warm and cozy, the food is delicious, and the service for the most part is attentive and friendly. I came here several times for brunch and was very satisfied with my meal. The highlight was their Eggs Benedict — a perfect combination of an english muffin, eggs, and hollandaise sauce. Some places tend to overdo it with heavy hollandaise sauce but not Mintwood Place. I also love the ambiance. It’s warm, rustic, non-pretentious, and reminds me how much I miss France and its lively bistros. I’d love to have more of those here in DC. –1 star for the unnecessary wait to be seated. Every time I was here, we had reservations. Although I could see some empty tables that were ready, each time were asked to wait for at least 5 minutes before being seated… Not sure why. Despite this minor detail, I really do enjoy Mintwood Place and will be coming back very soon.

Just had the best dining experience. We were accommodated on a Saturday night with no reservation which was awesome. Wonderfully attentive service by Justin. His recommendations did not disappoint. The Kale salad is a must. The Sea Bream was absolutely delicious. My husband was nice enough to share his braised beef with my son and I. My 11 year old described it as «disappearing in his mouth». It was that tender! We ended with the pear bread pudding. What a finish! Not traditionally prepared but absolutely fantastic. Needless to say, we’ll be back.

Mint. Wood. Place. I first went to Mintwood the week it opened. Wow it was fun. Delicious bread, amazing appetizers, whoa. The fish. I’m a pescetarian. So, Cedric’s decadent saffron and lentil laden fish is my San Simeon/shangri la/Europia. In any case. Let’s talk goat cheese and beet mountain pie. Let’s talk kale and burrata salad. Let’s. Talk. Deviled. Eggs. I wear my emotions in my sleeve, but if I had to wear my emotions about the pickled deviled eggs on my sleeve it’d be laughing, crying, whooping and Unilocaling about how goddamn delicious these eggs are. I get two orders. Every. Time. I’ve had some of thenest food I’ve put in my face in DC at Mintwood. With the least pretension. I ate at Komi. It was cool. Mintwood was a better deal. Finally, after years hanging out at Mintwood, they gave me the ultimate«local» pass — on Halloween, I may have been dressed as a tiger. As a tiger, I may have been seated in the bar area. Finally, as a tiger in yeh bar area, I may have played Monster Mash on my friend’s phone. You were kind, you were scary, and I love you. Don’t leave us for Convivial. Anyone looking for a great meal in Adams Morgan, you cannot do better. Eat. All. The. Things.

I really adored this place. The atmosphere was bustling, the lighting made me look good(dim, always go dim!), and the bartender was a master of mixology. We came here for my birthday dinner and had a few of the jalapeño drinks(please, get these) before being seated in a cozy booth. The server brought us out a champagne toast for my (why thank you!) and recommended several dishes for us to try. I’m a pescatarian, but chose the veggie risotto for my dish(yesssssss, so good and filling!) Everyone else was very pleased with their snacks and meals, so I know we will be back!

Helloooo, casual chic brunch central! Dim lighting(suspended lights galore, yey!) & wooden accents provide a warm ambiance, making Mintwood a great cover-all-occasion venue. Service was not the most personable, but nonetheless pleasant and timely. Menu is innovative yet hearty true to its European influence. We ordered: — Bacon & onion flammekueche with mushrooms(aka flatbread) — Ham, egg & broccolini grilled cheese sandwich(sounds simple but comes fancified) — Breakfast succotash w/egg sunny side up(aka veggies) — Buttermilk pancake All were so, sooo satisfying! Flavors were well balanced throughout the dishes — I was especially impressed with the succotash. I know, I know — I’m advocating veggies for brunch but hear a sista out here. With colorful pops of radish & cauliflower and a topping of watercress sprigs + oozing yolk dribbling through… this ain’t yo average stir fry; this is veggies redefined. Guess I’ll just have to come back for dinner for that baked alaska(but come on now, we all know it’s never not a good time for ice cream).

Cocktails: 7.5 Nothing special, overpriced for how average they are Food: 8, there’s a few things we loved that tipped the scale for other items, like the drab cheese plate Atmosphere: 9, lovely neighborhood feel with high-end touches, a great change in pace from the rest of Adams Morgan Service: 6, inconsistent. Order: 1. The Buratta Kale Salad: I don’t like kale, but this kale a crisp texture that pairs well with the smoothness of the buratta cheese, the fresh greens, and the crunch of the apple and hazelnuts. I crave this kale salad at pretty much any point of the day, and it’s now what keeps me coming back to Mintwood. 2. Cocktail: I can’t remember the name, but they have a seasonal cocktail right now that uses a jalapeño tequila with a cucumber garnish. This drink was delicious and maintained a subtle spiciness without being overwhelming. 3. Beer: The Ballast Point Grapefruit Sculpin IPA:(San Diego) This IPA is incredibly flavorful, but also maintains easy drinkability. It’s smooth, and it’s grapefruit finish is a real treat. Since this beer is a bit challenging to find in DC right now, it’s worth a try. Disappointing Dishes: 1. Wood-fired Octopus: I suggested this dish to the table. I then apologized to the table. The octopus was simultaneously dry, flavorless, and still chewy. I’m not entirely certain how you rid the octopus of any flavor or moisture and still have it be chewy – so I suppose that’s a special experience. The«ink crunch» contributed to the«burnt» effect, acting almost like char in aesthetic and texture. 2. Mushroom Risotto: This dish simply wasn’t what I was expecting when I ordered a risotto – I like the creaminess, and a more traditional risotto would’ve hit the spot on the rainy November day. There was nothing wrong with this dish, it was even, might I say, cute. The little fresh mushroom heads poking out from the risotto were endearing. The flavors were nice, but because of their decision to include farro, wheatberry, bulgar wheat, pearl barley & buckwheat groats – it got chewy and lost that texture I usually love about restaurant-quality risotto. As long as you’re prepared for that, this dish is good. 3. Cocktail, Papa Neruda: Again, nothing wrong with this cocktail, it was just a little boring.(Kappa Pisco, Tamarind, Grapefruit, Lime, Maraschino).

We had a great experience at Mintwood. Casual ambience, no need to dress up. Our waitress was very accommodating & friendly. To start, we ordered the burrata with roasted kale and it was DELICIOUS. Roasted kale was on point! I ordered the bolognese and my friend ordered the beef paleron. Both were great but the beef was out of this world. Overall it was a great meal & we’ll definitely be back.

Since moving to DC I have heard awesome things about this place and since my Aunt was in town and wanted to try something new I suggested we go to Mintwood place. This was my first time coming to the Adam’s Morgan part of town and let me tell you it was a lively place on a Sunday afternoon. Almost too lively to the point of congestion of people everywhere. I love it! First thing’s first. Mintwood place has pretty good customer service. I had called ahead to make sure a group of the 3 of us could be seated within the next 10 minutes. Unlike many DC restaurants who are too pompous to assist you with your request the hostess said if we were there in 10 we would be seated, score! The atmosphere of mintwood is great. Decorations are modern with a rustic twist. The only slight downfall of the restaurant if there is one is the noise level of the place, it was extremely loud where we had to raise our voices to talk but I have been in louder so it wasn’t a deal breaker. The food at this spot is where it’s at! I want to come back for dinner during the week or on the weekend of something because their brunch menu hits it just right so I am sure their other menu’s do too! I ordered the bacon cheeseburger which was cooked to perfection and was the most perfect size. Big enough to fill me up but small enough to fit in my mouth with each bite. The french fries that went along with it were amazing, not overly cooked in grease and tasted refreshing if french fries can even taste like that! My aunt got the Smoked salmon flammekueche. She said, verbatim, «this is the best breakfast plate I have ever had» so if you are into the whole salmon thing I highly suggest this dish. My aunt’s friend ordered the blueberry pancakes which were to die for. Unlike any pancakes I have had before they were a little crisp but also melted in your mouth at the same time. Mintwood is the place to come for brunch on a date or with some close friends. Parking can be a huge issue, especially on the weekend when Adam’s Morgan is going off so über, cab it, or be prepared to drive in circles and down unknown streets to find parking. Other than that mintwood is the place you need to be this weekend for some brunch. I am looking forward to coming back to try dinner!

Nice place. I don’t think they are doing anything mind blowing here, but I feel like this is somewhere you can always come for a solid meal. They have good diversity on the menu and the portions are well sized. I could not finish all my food, which is not usually my style, but fear not, I went to town on my leftover pork chop bone the next night. Nothing like the couch, some Mad Men and a crackling hot pork chop bone to chew on(sorry not sorry vegetarians).

This Adams Morgan restaurant is the perfect combination of spectacular cuisine with a comfort food edge and service all in a casual setting with a cool boho chic vibe. Our party of six was promptly seated in the front window table. Space is tight but the pillows that line the benches for seating make it super comfy. Our server was charming and casual all the while super knowledgable and honest in her recommendations. Wine list is extensive and cocktails are nicely done. I had a fruit forward rose by the glass which was right up my alley. Our group started with the Sishito peppers which were salted and flash grilled… bursting with flavor. The deviled eggs were out of this world… who would order this simple comfort food at a restaurant you may ask? Totally worth it if only to see how beautifully presented they are. The eggs were a bright fuchsia color which I am assuming is the result of coloring them with beet dye. delicious. Portions were handsome to say the least and ranged from the beef paleron over mashed, the Sunday special porchetta, and the chicken. I ordered the asparagus side and the wood grilled octopus starters as my main course. So yummy. Some of the vegetable components in the octopus salad were a little too charred for my taste but overall the dish worked, bright flavors and nice textures. Octopus was supple and nicely done. The asparagus were good but are dressed in a thicker version of hollandaise-more like a béchamel sauce. Tasty but heavy. We passed on dessert. Too full. I am just regretting that it has taken me so many trips to DC to venture to this neighborhood gem.

Ate here twice. First time was a 4⁄5 and the second time(probably because we ordered smarter) was outstanding. Totally 5 Unilocal star salute. First off, we ate on their patio around 7:30 as the sun was going down. Weather was perfect and the patio seating was totally comfortable. Nice place to people watch. My girlfriend and I both ordered fancy-type lemonades. Mine was like lemongrass ginger, which had a refreshing tart taste. We ordered a few appetizers and then split the entrée, which was the Sunday special… suckling pig. This is dish is what brought me back after our first time. I love it. I usually don’t do pork for my entrée, but the flavor on this dish is perfect. It comes with a sauce which I do not really use. It’s so well-flavored that I think it’s hard to improve on. Total hit. For«nibbles» we had some shishito peppers. I had no idea what shishito peppers were or how spicy they might be, but I took a chance. Not spicy at all, these were light and made for tasty bites. I shared some with our table neighbors. They enjoyed them. Shishito peppers were appetizing and helped us make some new friends. We had 2 starters. Both 5⁄5. First was goat cheese and beet mountain pie. It seems like every restaurant offers a goat cheese and beet salad. Well Mintwood offers a mountain. Totally delicious. These two foods are like close cousins nowadays. 2nd starter was the burrata. I’m a cheese fan and love mozzarella. Mintwood dishes up a luscious burrata which was served with kale and apples. Service was great. Patio was awesome. Food was lights out.

9:00 p.m. Friday — 2 People 1. Ambiance: Rustic wooden tables, chairs, bars and most of the restaurant. Soft lights add a classy touch to a modern yet classic feel to your dining experience. The dark somber brown booth seats very comfortably. This is a great place to take a date. 2. Food: We ordered the Escargot Hush Puppies as appetizers. For the main entrée(s), we ordered the Bolognese and Seabream. The escargot hush puppies were delicious with soft melted snails and stuffing on the inside as you crunch down on the outer layer. Bolognese and Seabream were well cooked and marinated and smelled amazing. The food is deservingly laudable and one can discern that the chef took additional care to prepare these wonderful, l notable entrees. 3. Service: Adrian took great care of us and was meticulous in explaining each item that we were inquiring about. I appreciate his professionalism and his undivided attention to not only our table, but to all other tables as well. 4. Costs: So worth every dime. The Bolognese and Seabream were in the $ 20s and the Hush Puppies were in the $ 10s. The portion size was fulfilling and the food turned out great. They do not skimp out on the portions and you’ll be full and satisfied upon leaving Mintwood. 5. Overall Experience: I’m very happy with this restaurant and had an amazing experience. The noise level wasn’t too loud and it was just the perfect place to have a great dinner with a family member. Side Notes: The location is really difficult to discern as the sign is faint in the window and the address numbers were not made conspicuous. Late night diners, beware.

A fellow Unilocal Elite friend and I went to Mintwood Place for brunch a couple weekends ago and had an absolutely wonderful time. We had reservations for Sunday brunch, and trust me when I say that reservations are absolutely necessary. Our brunch was for 2pm and it was still very crowded when we got there. The food was amazing! I ordered the smoked salmon Benedict and it tasted so ambrosial! My friend ordered the blueberry waffles and also really enjoyed it. My friend also ordered the Maple Caramel Apple Croustade and loved it. The food was just perfect. The restaurant is situated conveniently in Adams Morgan and the service was excellent as well(quick, friendly, efficient). It’s certainly one of my favorite DC brunch spots and I recommend it!

I’ve been meaning to go to Mintwood Place for years but never got around to it. Finally after it was announced they would provide all night happy hour prices for those brave enough to come out during a snowstorm, I decided to jump at the chance since i live without walking distance. Unfortunately I was less than impressed. The place was packed so quite loud, I don’t know if this place is normally this crowded or if everyone else had the same idea of me and wanted to take advantage of a deal. This place isn’t made for a crowd of this size, it is more built as a rustic or intimidate environment so being this full took away from my experience, as it was so loud it made it difficult to hear the person next to you talk without yelling. The tables are also tight, which adds to the issue. Biggest disappointment was food, while it wasn’t horrible and while I did get it at a discounted rate for the normal price points the food was a letdown. I had the five grain and five squash risotto and it was lacking seriously in the flavor department. I find it to be bland and not very filling. I expected more as I thought the staple of this place was their food. I will give them credit for their drinks, I had the Roger Egger and it was a well and balanced cocktail, nice flavor with a good alcohol kick. Service was good but not fantastic. Hostess was friendly and welcoming, waiter and other support staff were okay, I don’t have anything negative to say about them but I wasn’t blown away by their ability to satisfy their guest. All in all, Mintwood missed the mark for me, perhaps I shall return the next snow day and have my mind changed.
