Because of Family Fish Fry, I no longer go across town to Horace and Dickies. The best fried fish in town. We go every Friday! It really is family owned and run… and they treat my husband and I as if we are apart of the family, too. The whiting is phenomenal. The chicken wings are small but tasty. Their version of mambosauce is better than carry out versions. Their cabbage is better than what I make at home. Their sweet tea and lemonade mix is da bomb! Big Fish Family Fish Fry took over Morgan’s Family Fish Fry that used to be here before. It is still the same concept, where it’s a carry-out. They offer breakfast(breakfast sandwiches, breakfast specials, big breakfast specials, international breakfast items, and breakfast sides), lunch & dinner(fish sandwiches, crab cakes, shrimp basket, turkey wings, etc.), and chicken(wings, quarters, combos). They even have desserts(apple and peach cobblers, sweet potato cake, and banana pudding). I was in the area for work, so I stopped by to get some breakfast. I had the Corn Beef Hash & Egg with cheese, all on white bread — it was right off the griddle and was quite fresh and tasty! The corned beef had a little crispy crust to it, and it was plentiful between the fried egg and the cheese, all nicely sandwiched between the toasted white bread. Mornings seem to be the most popular with the local students stopping by in the morning before school to grab some slushee, sandwiches, and coffee. Service was friendly, and it isn’t really much of a ‘fast food’ situation, as you do wait for a while if there is a large queue of people waiting. You can either wait inside or wait outside in the lot, but you could only do so much! Great local place to check out if you’re in the neighborhood. :D +Corn Beef Hash & Egg with cheese

This place doesn’t disappoint. If you’re expecting good food. If you’re expecting great service. If you’re expecting to want to sing its praises. All these stellar reviews made me want to try it out. I brought my friend, who hails from the South, to check out this soul food haven. I got the catfish, which was fantastic. He one-upped me and went all out South, with collared greens. While we were waiting for our food, the owner just walked up and offered us free dessert. They were out of pie, but their chocolate cake was outstanding, easily as good as or better than a piece of cake one would find in a 5-star restaurant. Since Morgan’s is strictly a take-out establishment, we took our fare to my car and drove off. We hadn’t even circled the building and made it out onto the street before I decided to simply park again and tear into the food. It didn’t even have a chance. We checked this place out as we were in the neighborhood visiting the Anacostia Community Museum and the Frederick Douglas Historic Site. Whether you have a reason or not, find one or make one up to check this place out.

I want to add my 5 stars to this place! This is a spotlessly clean, very friendly place with a top quality and inexpensive fish sandwich. We tried a couple different fish types and all are great — lightly fried, fresh and not fishy. I loved the catfish. We also tried several of the sides. they are traditional and pretty heavy –although we weren’t keen on them, they are definitely just a matter of personal taste. It is take-out, but there is ample parking and we ate it hot and fresh in our car. This lunch makes a great stopping place if you are visiting Anacostia and the Frederick Douglas house.

What a great family owned place. For $ 20-$ 25 you can get a big dinner for two that’s absolutely delicious. The corn bread was huge, hot and tasty. The crab cake was gargantuan, moist and delicious. Fried fish is well fried fish, but again among the better you can get. Mac and cheese is definitely among the cheesiest I’ve ever eaten. Awesome soul food… if you have an itch for fried deliciousness, definitely brave the trip into Anacostia and go here. There’s no room to eat inside or outside, so keep that in mind. $ 10 minimum on credit cards.

This is a frequent visit for us at work. You order a 2 piece fish and you’re bound to get 3 pieces. The potato wedges are excellent and if you order ahead, it’s ready when you get there. The area is a little sketchy, but the food is worth it.

There are some really noteworthy places to eat in Anacostia. Morgan’s Family Fish Fry is one of them. On Anacostia’s main thoroughfare, Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, SE, Morgan’s occupies a stout and proud little building with its own prominent signboard high above the street. Inside its immaculately clean interior, its menu selections, which are priced fairly and cheaply, are brightly displayed to reveal many soul food standards(ranging from breakfast classics to lunch and dinner entrees of various sorts and combinations). Items like scrapple and eggs; home fries, grits, and toast; French toast; corned beef hash; crab cakes; jumbo shrimp; turkey wings; baked chicken(and the list goes on and on).
As a fish lover, logically, I gravitated toward the fish selections(which included whiting, croaker, trout, catfish, and tilapia). Given the choice of eating the fish as a sandwich or as a dinner platter, I chose the latter so that I could also try some of their side items as well. In total, we ordered the trout dinner and the whiting dinner(with accompanying sides of candied yams, macaroni and cheese, collard greens, and cole slaw). The whiting was crisp and flavorful(although a touch on the dry side). This might have been due to its being fried prior to ordering. However, the collard greens were tender and perfectly stewed. It tasted savory and vinegary. The cole slaw was tasty too but was chopped very finely and seemed a bit disjointed. The trout, on the other hand, was the hands down winner. It was fried patiently and skillfully to a perfect crispness and remained flaky and moist. It was fresh, purposeful, and delicious. The macaroni and cheese, on the contrary, did not fare as well. It was a tad overcooked and, surprisingly, lacked enough cheese. However, what cheese there was… was, at times, tantalizingly crisp from having been baked just right… at just the right angle to be browned appropriately. The candied yams, however, were every bit the redeeming side item. They were an artistic brownish/orange with a happy sheen… so sweet but not exceedingly so, as well as delicate but not mushy. They were simply a delight to eat. A round of wheat bread(which came as a pair in plastic wrap) completed our order along with a piece of corn bread(which I ordered separately). The corn bread, lest I forget, was extremely moist too(and without a hint of dryness). Overall, I was clearly well fed and satisfied and was ready to wander down MLK Blvd. to look for more interesting sights, sounds, and smells.

Picked up the 3pc wings &2pc fish and 2 sides combo just mins before closing last nite. They gave me an extra piece of fish and an extra side. MAN’O MAN the CHICKEN was like GRANDMA was back there. Oh my goodness the fish was also good. I got the mac n cheese. not impressed had to doctor it up w/fresh ground pepper and some salt but after added it was right on time & string beans… were good well seasoned; the extra side was YAMS which ARE the BOMBBIGGITY… YES I WILLBEGOINGBACK oh and it is CLEAN, they are super nice, true not in the best location put not to worry the police frequents the establishment often for their soul food fix so you have security. I will tell my co-workers about this place.

As one of the few places to get non-Chinese carry out in Anacostia, I have frequented the restaurant several times. Each time, I have never been disappointed. As other reviewers have mentioned, it provides a filling delicious meal at a reasonable cost. Though if you, like me, are a sucker for good customer service, this place won’t overwhelm you. Still, it’s definitely worth a visit. I’ve had the whiting, green beans, potato salad, french fries and potato wedges and all have been scrumptious.

This place serves cheap, delicious food — you pay about $ 3 for a filling meal of fried fish and soft bread, complete with their tartar sauce and hot sauce. Last time I was there, I also ordered an Arnold Palmer, which was pretty good. It’s not in the nicest neighborhood, and there’s nowhere to sit down, but that’s true of many places, and you get satisfying comfort food for your money.

Great spot for lunch and dinner carryout in Anacostia. Word on the street is that Morgan’s used to be Horace & Dickie’s(location on H street NE). Horace & Dickie’s has delicious fried fish and sides, and Morgan’s isn’t too far behind. My office orders Morgans from time to time — they have a whole range of sides — I’ve tried the green beans, cole slaw, and potato salad — all of which are pretty basic, and good. Their fried whiting is great — and like Aisha says, for $ 2 and some change you can get two fillets. Seems too good to be true… but Morgans is one of the best perks to working in Anacostia.

At a meeting one day in Anacostia I passed by this place and could smell something good cookin’. I was hungry so I stopped in for a bite to eat. The place is a carryout only. You order at the counter and go, no frills. I as looked at the menu they serve fried fish, either lake trout or whiting. Here is the most important part, for $ 2.61 plus tax, you get two fried fish fillets with bread. This deal can’t be beat. They also have all of the requisite soul food sides: greens, mac and cheese and yams. The other jewel is the banana pudding.
