So my friend and I stumbled upon this place because we were looking for a bar that had an all night happy hour and luckily enough this place had just that on Tuesday. The happy hour drinks here are priced well and taste amazing! I like how it was in the corner of the water area and it wasnt too crowded. We also ordered the Nachitos and we got a HUGE serving for something known as small nachos. Bottom line: Come here on TUESDAYS! and enjoy that all night happy hour in G-town.

Such a good brunch for friends and family. Bottomless mimosas/champagne paired(with no time limit) with the 33 omelette. I highly recommend coming to Mr. Smiths for brunch and late night

The most positive thing I can say about this place is that is that it is near my house and the kitchen is open till late. The place looks like an old British Pub, but without charisma. Food is just acceptable: hamburgers are OK but the potato chips included are unedible, salmon comes with a sauce impossible to define, and the onion rings have a disguting fishy taste. Service is OK; sometimes is good and sometimes is appaling(sometimes they have a female bartender who is just rude). Prices are OK for Georgetown. They have a pianist on weekend nights. PD: On April 10th ’16 I received a message from the management requesting a better review. Not only Mr. Smiths is a bad restaurant, it obviously also has bad management with bad business etiquette.

I feel like this place could be really awesome, as long as the right person is behind the piano. This place is off the beaten path from the main strip of Georgetown. We walked a little bit to get here and just can for drinks, which were decent. The had some fun cocktail options, although my first cocktail was pretty weak so I switched over the whiskey on the rocks. The staff was ONIT. Any time I even glanced their way that ran over to see if we needed something. The piano started around 10pm, it’s kind of like Karaōke, where guests can come up and sing along. They passed out a list with songs that the piano guy knew, most of the songs were pretty outdated. I only knew the words to a few. The piano guy home self was just not that great. I think he had a hard time keeping the interest of most of the people there and his singing was rough. He also kept stopping in the middle of songs to have bar guests sing the chorus or a phrase, but no one did so it was a little awkward. I’ve heard that this place can be really fun, so maybe I’ll give it another chance if I’m in DC again.

First let me say the piano man, Jon Adelson is the reason you come here. He was at their old location, he’s awesome and is full of charisma. He always tries his best to fit in everyones song. Food is ok, typical bar food, still better than some places. I’ve been coming here since 2006, and it’s always been a great time. The staff is always friendly, I’ve never had a bad experience coming here. The food is good, if you eat meat have their burgers they’re awesome. Please keep in mind in my years of coming here, this is not the norm for Mr. Smiths. There was extremely rude bartender that we had serving us. She was very unfriendly and rude the whole time, at first I thought it was just me. But as each person from our group came back from the bar complaining about her attitude, I realized it was her and not me, or the group. There was a Caps game on TV, and I get it if your a Caps fan, but you’re at work in a customer service industry. Take care of your customers and they’ll take care of you. Instead of blowing and having an exchange of words with her about her attitude, I decided to take the higher road and brush it under the rug, plus we were there celebrating a friends birthday. The whole night, it seemed like customer were too much of an inconvenience for her. At one point it looked as if the bartender was arguing with a coworker, she had her hands in his face. If you go to a bar and get great service, you tip them well bc you feel they deserve it. In her case, she felt you needed to tip her regardless of the crap service and attitude you received. I’m pretty sure the other bartenders would’ve been better, it’s a ashamed we ended up getting the bartender we did. Would I come back? Yes, this is probably the best piano bar in DC area. Can’t let one bad experience with one person ruin a jewel like this.

This is my favorite bar in the DC area. If you just want to get away from the pretentiousness of DC and belly-up to the bar, this is the place. The bartenders are extremely friendly and will chat you up on whatever’s on your mind. If you get in there before 9:00 on the weekends, you can usually find a seat at the bar. Drinks are pretty reasonable for DC. After 10 it turns into a piano bar and for the first 5 or so songs, it’s a blast. After that the place becomes a little too crowded for my liking. But if you’re looking for a pre-party spot, hit Mr. Smith’s till about 10, enjoy a couple songs and continue your adventure elsewhere.

Primarily a nice piano bar, that does karaōke-like sing-a-longs. There is also a decent restaurant and two full bars. Although the entertainment was excellent and the food was good, I thought the cocktails were nothing to write home about. I wouldn’t be inclined to come here when no one is at the piano.

A warm and cozy spot on a cold, windy night. I suppose a number of persons have arrived early for a movie near the restaurant. The person at the front door and the wait staff were very friendly and accommodating. It was early with few other people there. Beverages and then dinner arrived promptly. It was a ½ price burger night, so we made quick decision on what to order. The chips are made in-house and are crisp and delicious. With burgers at half price, our bill of course was quite a bargain. We enjoyed the leisurely, quiet experience and the convenient stroll down to the movie theatre.

I am suprised this spot is not more highly rated. They have a new outdoor rooftop patio, very fair and reasonable prices, and really sweet staff. Any time I get stuck at a ritzy Georgetown happy hour and want to move on to something more reasonable and low key, Mr. Smith’s is always the best spot. They’ll put any game they can on for you too.

I had another great meal, fish is always really good! I like things I can’t cook at home. They surprisingly do a amazing job, and the piano makes it just that much more fun. Listening to all the songs you grew up with. So much fun. Try it and enjoy it.

You see fancy bars in the immediate waterfront area, but down the block where no one goes is this place. After 4 hours of studying, I badly needed a break. A colleague and I came here fairly late at night, mostly because everywhere was closing down. They’d already closed the kitchen, so we sat at the bar for a drink. They have decent specials from 10pm to close. I had a sangria for $ 4; it tasted like a sangria you’d buy for $ 4. The bartender seemed impatient for us to hurry up and finish our drinks and leave. Really though, it was as expected for the only bar open at this time.

I’m usually pretty understanding of mediocre service as I have worked in the restaurant industry for almost 3 years now, but my experience at Mr. Smiths was one of the worse I’ve ever had. My girlfriend and I met my grandma and my aunt there for dinner on Monday night. The restaurant was dead and we were the only customers in the upstairs dining area. My family arrive before we did and we met them there. After about 10 minutes of sitting there, we finally saw our server. She asked us what we wanted and we put in out order. We never received water and after about 10 minutes I walked downstairs to the bar to get our water. The bartender did apologize and tried to explain how busy she was. Did I mention we were the only ones in the dining room. We didn’t see our server until our food came. I ordered the ribs and had to send them back. I love ribs and I understand that all ribs have some fat on them but I’ve never seen anything like this. For every nibble of rib I had, I pulled out a cylinder shape of fat from my ribs. It was so bad that only about a third of the ribs were actually edible. Disgusted, I returned the ribs and ordered a fried chicken that was barely edible. Not once did a manager apologize. In fact, we saw a manager walk past us multiple times and stare at us as if we were intruding. It was 7:30. It wasn’t like we were keeping them open later than normal or doing anything warranting that type of reaction. I never expect to receive anything free, even if I had to return my food because it was inedible and had to wait another 10 minutes to receive another dish. Enough time that everyone else in my party had finished their meal and were forced to watch me eat. All I ask for is a simply apology from management who were no where to be seen. This was the first and last time I will ever go here.

Well, read all of the reviews yesterday, which made me a little nervous about trying this place(was also disappointed it was no longer a Chadwicks), but it was the closest to the AMC movie theater and we were pressed for time. No staff problems at all, everyone was nice and helpful. Got seated on first floor right away even though I was waiting for a friend. When I got there, there were just a few ppl at the bar, but a few more parties showed up for dinner. Diverse crowd, diverse staff; no signs of racism as someone posted here.(How many people carry cash these days? And no business likes making change unless you buy something. That may have been the reason for the attitude that person received — which is still wrong, but…) Food came quickly so we still had a little time before the 7pm movie; had free passes to the upcoming Owen Wilson flick, No Escape. The unsweetened iced tea was great! The teriyaki turkey burger and sweet potato fries were. OK. The fries were thin(the sweet potato fries are much thicker, «meatier» at BGR/The Burger Joint), but that could have just been that particular batch. *shrug* The burger was well-done, as I requested, but the consistency of the meat seemed. I dunno. weird. For half a second I wondered if it was horse or something, but, I’m a native New Yorker and we get suspicious sometimes, haha. ;-) Prices also seemed reasonable– dinner for 2 came to about $ 38, including tip(no alcohol). I would def. give it another shot. Saw some nice salad, pasta and sandwich options on the menu… and the carrot cake on the dessert menu sounded good, but we didn’t have time.

I had an absolutely horrible experience for lunch today. I ordered a burger which and when asked for the temp, I told him rare-med-rare. I then explained that I like it less than med-rare. The burger was not only gross tasting, but completely well done. The server never came back to check on us and I had to hunt him down to pay for my meal. I would stay far away from here!

Plus: WIFI, close to georgetown waterfront Minus: Almost nothing on the menu for vegetarians. Seriously, they had a couple salads, and I imagine I could have ordered a side of fries. This is an old school vibe, maybe it’s fun for Georgetown students at night? The convenient location made it easy for me to pop in and get some work done over a lemonade, but that’s it’. I wouldn’t suggest this place unless(like me), you are hard pressed for a wifi connection and/or a/c.

Went in for half price burgers. Only the burger itself is half priced, toppings are full price and fries are extra. Burgers were overcooked and bland. Also, their beer selections are nothing special even though they advertise as a Belgian beer place. Also tried charging us for extra beer and toppings.

And in that moment, I was a Piano Bar regular. Mr Smith’s is what I imagine Billy Joel sang about in «Piano Man.» A nondescript, divey-lil’ joint, with a small bar that surrounded the piano, facilitating conversation and banter between musician and audience. The place was tame for a Saturday night, not like Dueling Pianos in Columbus or Vegas, but I personally love/prioritize those bars where I can hear myself talk and still engage in conversation with my friends. The drinks are nothing to behold, but I wasn’t planning on ordering a drink with smoke or fire in it anyway. Jon Adelson, the piano player, is a great sport. He raised the roof for my girlfriend for her bachelorette party, making sure that everyone knew that she and Chris are getting hitched in August. He had our gaggle of girls crooning for the moon until one-ish in the morning, thrusting our hands in the air during the best parts of the songs, and capitalizing on our air microphones. Loved the vibes of Mr Smith’s, and would go back even if no one was getting married.

I grew up in the area and went to this restaurant when it was Chadwick’s. Great establishment with a lot of history. Once Mr. Smiths bought them out, this place has changed for the worst. No character and the waiting stuff drag their feet. You’re better off finding some place else to eat up Wisconsin.

I went here this past Saturday night and it was a blast. Granted I got here early because I heard through my friends that it gets crowded quickly. Met up with a big group of people and we easily got drinks from the upstairs bar until they closed it. The bartender from upstairs even walked downstairs to find me so I did not have to leave my seat near the piano to close my tab! They had a piano man named Jon Adelson play throughout the night and he definitely got the bar into all of the songs. Worth coming to this bar if you are looking for a great bar away from M street. I never went here when it was Chadwick’s so I have no idea how it was like in the past.

I stopped in the other night with a friend from out of town. Had a couple beers and a few shots. Piano man was singing and the crowd was having a great time. The staff is friendly, the beer is cold, and the prices are good. Well worth stopping in and supporting a Georgetown icon.
