I will miss this place. Truly a vibe that can’t be beat, with it’s wood paneling, dark benches and booths, and simple drink week beer specials. It’s also a great lunch spot. I’ve had many Diplomat burgers here and I never get tired of them. Moist, thick, just a solid simple burger and those absolutely perfect onion rings. Light crispy wafer thin batter, excellent crackle that take the salt so perfectly. You must eat at the bar by far, it’s the best spot in the place to sit and have lunch with beers at the ready if need be. Grab a seat and enjoy the show.

I’m a fan. This is a great dive that isn’t too divey(aka dirty) and fills up with a decent crowd after work. Happy hour is pretty weak, usually just one beer for a couple of hours. But you come here for the atmosphere, so who cares. They are pretty serious about IDing, so unless you have a beard like Santa Claus, don’t forget your license.

It’s a dive bar, in a good way. If offers dim lighting, very reasonably priced beers, and a variety of typical pub appetizers and meals. It’s nothing fancy, but you don’t come here for fancy. You come here to have drinks and a bite with friends in an unpretentious setting. Sure, if you rate it against some upscale bar offering special bartender creations for $ 15 a drink, it will fall short on creativity But that would be unfair because Post Pub is a friendly, no frills place and isn’t trying to compete with speakeasies or posh bars.

I love me a good neighborhood joint. Post Pub is the place. Is the food off the chain? No. Is it all fancy dancy with tablecloths and candles? No. I sat at the bar and had the fish and chips. They weren’t handmade fish or chips. I didn’t expect that. The beer was cold and the bartender, Kathy, was attentive. The owner was there and we had a good conversation with a couple other barflies. On the subway into town this morning I read about this place and decided to stop by. The guy sitting next to me said that a lot call the place a dive bar. I’m not sure that is accurate. It’s a neighborhood pub. I’ve been to plenty of dives and this place is not one of them. Although the guy sitting next to me, a longtime resident, told me that in the early 70s it was a sketchy neighborhood and he was once caught in the middle of a shootout at a place around the corner. Hard to believe as it is just a few blocks from the White House.

Good food great prices. Very local with lots of history. The appetizers will fill you up. Be sure to ask about the specials.

There was a live roach in my colleague’s food. The health department was alerted. I recommend going somewhere with better sanitary practices.

Went tonight after meetings. Prices good. Cool that it has the history of Woodward and Bernstein. We ate in the bar. Food was good. Prices reasonable. Not the cleanest place. Server was helpful. I might go again.

This place stinks on so many levels. As in, it has a foul stench and the food is really sub par(to put it gently). Oh, and they may have an issue with bugs. I can’t put my finger on the smell. It’s musty. It smells like a basement after a flood that wasn’t properly aired out. It has the faint odor of cat pee mingled in with the flood odor. It smells like stale cigarettes and faintly of seafood. To be fair, the faint seafood odor may be because the soup of the day was she crab soup(I believe, I may be wrong). The food is also pretty awful. I ordered the chicken tender meal. The chicken tenders are not freshly made. They’re the kind of chicken tenders that come already prepared and delivered in a plastic bag. They’re reminiscent of chicken tenders you may have had for school lunches, so this may actually be a perk if you’re nostalgic about school lunches. I’m just not a nostalgic person and expect more when I’m paying $ 10 for something I could have paid $ 2.50 when I was in elementary school. The meal came with three ramekins of sauces — two honey mustards and one barbecue sauce. The odd thing is, two of the ramekins(honey mustard and barbecue sauce) came with lids while my other honey mustard was lidless. Why? It was weird. Mid-meal, a rather large bug scurried across the table we were seated at, twisted around the salt and pepper shakers, ran down the wall and disappeared in the crack between the booth and wall. The bug was the final straw. My boyfriend and I grabbed the check and left. How they pass health inspections is beyond me. Also, their website is incorrect — they’re not open seven days a week. We tried to go last Sunday and it was closed and it clearly is marked on their door that they’re closed on Sunday. I would rate this as one star, but I do think this place is good if you’re looking for a stiff drink in a dive bar. I like dive bars. I just don’t like smelly dive bars with bad food and at least one bold bug meandering around with reckless abandon.

This place is a true dive — which is pretty rare for DC. So named for its location next to the former Washington Post offices, this is an dim, small and familiar pub, even if you’ve never been before. The walls are covered in candid photos of people(the staff? Regulars?) And the bartenders and waitstaff are either amusingly grumpy or just plain friendly. The clientele varies from rumpled journalists to youngsters to funny or not so funny regulars — on my last trip we talked to a travel writer from Alaska and some old goofballs while some maybe interns had a date nearby. The fare is nothing special, bar food like burgers, sandwiches and potato skins, but there are some decent beer deals at happy hour for around $ 4(and Blue Moon from 11am-3pm for $ 3.95 — who drinks Blue Moon on a Friday morning I don’t know.) If you’re looking for a fine dining experience, look elsewhere, but if you want a comfortable spot to have a few drinks with a wide variety of folks, this is it.

Used to somewhat enjoy this place – it’s a tiny and somewhat dive-y bar right by my office, and my coworkers and I go there after work sometimes. Yesterday for happy hour, though, I ordered a beer and didn’t realize until I was almost done with it that there was a ton of ink at the bottom. I went to tell them about it and the bartender blew it off as if it was perfectly normal to accidentally give someone a glass that was unwashed and had been previously used to hold pens. Truly disgusting. I was pretty speechless. Needless to say, I do not recommend wasting your money at such a gross establishment.

Terrible service, angry bitter waitresses, not a cool vibe, I wanted to like this place because of the patio and the nice weather but alas, never to return… Guinness on tap was luke warm at best…

In-between meeting I needed break(a beer or two), since I was not sure if the next one was going to be beneficial(note: the jury is still out). It a nice basic restaurant and bar, which to me means it is not pretentious. The bartender was nice and friendly, which makes one want to keep coming back.

Part two of our sightseeing and pub crawl. Place had promise with its darkness and dive-i-ness, but was hugely disappointed. According to my friend his local beer was good, but this had to be one of the worst martinis ever… I didn’t even drink it. What you see= how I left it. Just because you poured heavily doesn’t necessarily make the drink better. The glass wasn’t chilled and the drink itself was so warm it was gross. I give one star based off of his good beer only.

Classic dive bar just the way I like it. The kind of scene you imagine while singing piano man. Great spot for good food without needing to deal with the honorifics of the classy looking(but really not special) places around the corner. — Old school friendly bar tender with a warm welcome. — Standard beers plus fat tire and goose island on tap. — notable burgers a cut above typical bar food — surprisingly excellent grilled salmon They tell me their salmon is fresh never frozen and marinated for 24hrs. Perhaps not quite as fresh as I’ve had in Alaska but this grilled dish is not to be underestimated. I’m not telling you to come here for restaurant week but definitely eat here if hungry and nearby.

Do not order food. Never order food. Order is wrong and it took over an hour to get it. But, the beer is cheap for the area. That said, it is expensive. The whole area is. If you can go to a different part of the district, go there.

If you want a drive bar, look no further. Upon walking in, you will seat yourself. There is usually one server for the entire place(mind you it’s not a large space). You will be welcomed with a warm hello, and feel right at home. Post Pub has awesome drink prices, but they don’t offer«happy hour». I wouldn’t recommend ordering food, because it takes a while for your order to be placed, which in turn make your stay at Post Pub much longer than expected. If you aren’t in search for any frills, this is a good place for you. After a long day and all you want is conversation, a beer and to relax, Post Pub is perfect for you.

This place is a really solid lunch option in a sea of overpriced restaurants(i.e. McPherson Sq). I’ve always walked by and wondered about it, and it definitely exceeded my expectations. First off, really cute Mad-Men-esque feel with a divey edge. I liked the old-fashioned booths with coat racks on the ends. The noise was minimal, and an interesting mix of office people on their lunch break and old-timers getting their drink on at noon on a Wednesday(which they have some solid beer specials for those looking to drink over lunch). Our server was friendly and we were in and out in an hour, which is always welcome for the lunch hour. He gave us our check early«just in case we were in a hurry to get back to work», which I appreciated. They have the regular menu for the most part(don’t be fooled by the minimal lunch menu on their website) along with some cool specials. I got the Cajun Catfish(a special) with fries and coleslaw. The fish was solid, had good flavor. And for $ 9.99 in this area it would have had my heart regardless. My friend got a steak and said it was solid. Will definitely be back! Really excited to find such a reasonably priced place near my work, I was close to giving up!

What can I say I am a sucker for a dump, and while Post Pub isn’t quite about to fall down, it definitely has many dumpy qualities. Was it the 1995 desktop that they apparently still use at the bar, was it the various wires and other potential fire hazards all about, was it the cheesy pictures and other various tchotchkies all over the walls? Who knows maybe it was all of those but I definitely enjoyed the dumpy vibed. Bartender was really cool, apparently he is the owners son in law, it is nice to see nepotism is alive and well in the bar industry, this guy was fun, telling jokes, talking about the bar history and just generally have a decent conversation with the customers. Had some bar bites that were quite tasty too, apparently fried foods is what they do best, I had some bbq chicken empanadas and they were fried well, juicy inside with a nice spicy kick to really add to the flavor. Various beers on tap and by the bottle and a full bar of whatever drink you’re looking for. All in all Post Pub is my kind of place and I couldn’t definitely see return visits in my future.
