Sheena is the truth

Sheena gave me the best trim of my life and she was the first stylist to ever detangle my hair without ripping through my coils and kinks. I arrived for my 10:30am appointment around 10:15 and I was out by 11:00am after a wash, condition, blow out and trim! Sometimes I suffer from review-​too-​soon syndrome so I waited 2 weeks to be sure my hair didn’t have any heat damage from the blow-​out (my first), but my coils bounced right back after wash day. $ 50 is certainly pricey for a mere trim, but to know I never have to fear a trim again is worth it.

Today was my first time visiting the salon and I choose this salon because of the positive comments from Unilocal.I’m glad I did. I first had a consultation over the phone with Linda. She gave some great suggestions as to what services would be good for me and she also scheduled my appointment.
My stylist was Danielle, she was very nice, helpful with all of my hair questions, and she was on time starting my hair which I love. I received a trim, blowout, straightening and deep conditioning. I really like how my hair turned out. My hair has a lot of movement now, it’s super soft, and very manageable. After Danielle was finished she gave me a little shoulder rub and some bobby pins to wrap my hair. I would go back because I appreciate how I was treated from when I first walked in until I left.

After a seriously heinous dye job from another stylist, I made an appointment with Linda to rectify it. She did a wonderful job at securing the color I wanted and I’ve been receiving compliments nonstop. Sheena retwisted my locs and I love her painless clipless retwist method. She’s gained a loyal client. All of the products that they use are natural and smell amazing. They’re pricey, but worth it. The atmosphere and service are great.

I used a living social coupon which made it a great deal. Paying full price would still have been worth it, but more of a stretch for my budget. Danielle was very warm and professional, and she did a great job. She explained the different products she was using and how to take better care of my hair at home. I especially love knowing that all the products are organic and safe for my hair/​scalp.
I’ve never been in a salon before that even offers you water, let alone tea or wine! They also had a container of cookies by the door, although I didn’t try them. But it’s so nice to have these extra touches — you can tell they care about their clients. I also got a complimentary steam conditioning, which was such a relaxing experience, and even a little shoulder rub after Danielle was done blow drying my hair. Hands down the best salon experience I’ve ever had!

Linda and Dani are so nice and personable. I’ve gotten the keragreen keratin treatment with Dani, and also a trim and blow dry. Linda was good with explaining the process and what to expect and booking my appointment. Dani was great. I was a little wary with the keratin process, but so far my natural hair has been softer and easier to manage. I carried my blow out for a couple weeks! My only problem with the salon is the pricing. Good God, $ 50 for a trim?! The whole keratin treatment and a trim cost over $ 300. I’ll honestly keep going until I find a more competitively priced alternative that does a good job with my hair. Otherwise I’m very happy with the service I’ve gotten here.

I’m late in given this review, but life got in the way lol. About a month ago, I used a coupon from living social at this salon. I got the Marley twist. My stylist was Sheena. Sheena was very sweet and informative. She explained everything she was going to do. She did an excellent job on my hair and gave me a complimentary deep condition. I will definitely come back when I have money lol. The place is great but kind of pricey (without a coupon) and you have to pay for parking.

The best salon experience I’ve had since moving here! Beautiful shop, friendly and professional staff & A1 products. Called and got an appointment with Dani on the same day, which was a huge blessing (’cause my hair was a mess!). Left with a TWA, which I love! Already booked my next appointment.

Today was my first experience and I wasn’t disappointed. When I arrived Sheena was waiting and ready for me… She’s talked about my concerns/​issues and she advised me about my hair & products that she would be using to address my hair needs/​concerns. She was very professional and friendly… it was like talking to an older friend, lol. Before putting me under the dryer she offered tea or water. She didn’t forget need & checked if I was OK. The other thing was the shoulder, neck & back massage after my hair was styled. I didn’t have any pet peeves here and would most definitely recommend going checking out the salon… I made an appointment before leaving this was the best service I received in a long time!!!

What a lovely salon! Great organic products. Knowledgable and friendly staff. Danielle gave me a fantastic cut! Go see her. She is so nice, friendly, and funny. And talented on top of everything!

Danielle was great! She did a really thorough job and I loved the products that she used on my hair. I can’t see myself going any place else.

I’ve had locs for about 8 years now and been through about 5 stylists (mostly due to relocating often) but I have never had someone so knowledgeable and passionate about locs maintenance and natural hair in general. Sheena really knows her stuff and I knew right away that I was in great hands. The initial consultation just to go over the state of my hair and tell me what her process was going to be was truly a pleasant surprise, I’ve never had a stylist do that before. She gave me great tips and product suggestions on how to care for my hair in between visits and I left the salon feeling great and looking forward to the start of a new client/​stylist relationship. I highly recommend Sheena! Also, the salon is very clean and nicely decorated.

Okay so let me start this with, the loss of one star here is purely based on the salon pricing. I came here to get my locs retwisted and curled they’re shoulder length, not super long.
I worked with Linda who was extremely professional, explained everything she was doing and had a great demeanor. She was friendly, made great conversation and a great stylist. Go to her. Seriously, she was delightful to work with.
But my hair was $ 125, plus a $ 20 tip it was $ 146. I would have been fine with $ 90…but almost $ 150? Ouch. I know the tip was my «choice»…but tipping isn’t «optional» in my book. Tip your stylists!
I understand locs can be a lot of work. But charging that price for a wash and style is ridiculous. I also wasn’t a fan of the product used for the re twist. She used a thick gel hold stuff (sorta like edge control but I’m sure higher quality) on my new growth. It felt sorta heavy and made my hair feel different than what I’m used to, no big deal, it still looked good. The Shamoo and conditioner smelled and felt great, but within locs I think it’s important to use light products on re twists (or none) to avoid build up.
Another plus is that they a did clip-​less retwist. No pulling, breaking, or pain… and trust in TENDER headed.
Kudos. Overall great salon. Everything was clean and had great service. But those prices were a tough pill to swallow. They need to change the price range here to $$$. I would probably return but unfortunately I couldn’t afford going often.

Sheena is the best. I recently stopped wearing braids after about 9 months and was searching for a natural hair stylist; I found this salon by doing a search on natural hair care. The short story is… after about nine months of wearing braids, my hair was very damaged and dry. My natural hair type is coarse and thick. I have been going to Sheena since April. My hair is getting back to a healthy state and it is getting thicker. This salon’s organic hair products and the steam treatments work really well with my hair. The salon space is very nice, good music, everyone that I have encountered there is very professional.

It was Living Social that allowed to find the salon. i am glad I did. I wasn’t able to use my coupon but stayed and Sheena my stylist did an incredible job. She was a consummate professional giving me tips about breakage and dry scalp. I will go back.

OMG Sheena is the loc goddess everything is so simple and Sheena is so respectful and professional. She is the best Loctician in DC. All they products are organic, no messy build-​up, at all. Love my Loctician.

After a scheduling error at my regular salon left me without an appointment, I turned to Unilocal.I called about a dozen salons to find one that does locs (note to hair salons in the area — seriously?! Natural hair is more than blowouts, and don’t get me started on all of those who can’t even do Black hair).
Lucky me that Sheena was in that day, and able to fit me in within the hour. My hair looks and smells great. It was good to have a set of fresh eyes on my hair, as I think she spotted some potential problems that my usual stylist overlooked. The salon is really big on the health of your hair — she gave me some great pointers. Prices are reasonable. I watched clients with a variety of hair textures leaving happy. Linda and Sheena were very hospitable — offering water or tea, snacks, and even finding a Sam Smith station after another client started talking about him.
I don’t know if I’m ready to leave my slightly bougie regular salon, but I’m SO glad they are another local option!

Salon was very clean and there were snack and drinks for the costumers. Prices were right in my budget. I have natural hair and get my hair straightened and trimmed about once every 3 months. Past hair dressers couldn’t get my hair straight so I only wore the style for a day. Justin colored, straightened, and clipped my ends and my hair lasted for three days. My hair did not lose it’s natural curl pattern and the color did not break it off. I would recommend this salon to EVERYONE.

I found Rachel Joyce after exhaustive searching for a DC salon that uses Organic Color Systems, since I needed a root touchup on my dyed blonde hair and my super coarse/​dry/​wavy hair can’t tolerate peroxide. Linda did a really wonderful job toning down the brassiness my blonde had taken on over eight weeks of showers/​shampoos and was able to match my color beautifully. The complimentary deep conditioning treatment under the steamer was a surprising treat!
I’m growing out an asymmetrical bob after shaving half my head, and wanted to get some more length before having to figure out what I’m «doing» with it, so I skipped the haircut for my first visit but will be setting up a consultation and hopefully going for the cut next time — I’m assuming from her patience and consideration with the color that Linda will be cool to cut my curls dry and be flexible about their wild behavior rather than pretend I have straight hair that will cooperate with being cut wet. Hairstylist trust is hard to build with me, but I’m feeling pretty good about taking this relationship to the next level!
Do speak up if you don’t want a blowout post-​color and wash: my hair really needs to air-​dry and I’ve never had a blowout in my life that didn’t make me want to cry at the result, but somehow I always forget to say something before it starts — so I’m not holding this against Linda in any way, just saying remember to be clear about what your hair can and can’t do, since you know it best!
