Went here for dinner with friends last Sunday night. The actual space is super funky with lots of cool murals and a chill atmosphere — just my style. Unfortunately, the food was disappointing. The positives: the«sharesies» we ordered were awesome; there were delicious brussels sprouts with a thai chili peanut sauce, as well as six cheese mac & cheese that was decadent and perfectly flavored(and I am particular about my mac & cheese). There were several other sharesies that sounded delicious too, based on their descriptions. Also, our server was very helpful and nice. The negatives: the vegetarian entrees were disappointing and completely flavorless. My husband ordered the fried green tomato sandwich, which was dry, underseasoned, and too small. Also the bread seemed like it came from a packet of buns you can get from an average grocery store(i.e., not fresh). We asked for some of the horseradish sauce(which comes with fries in the Sharesies) to help the dry/flavor issues but unfortunately, that did not help. Very disappointing for a fried green tomato sandwich. I ordered the grilled veggie sammy, which was also a disappointment. The bread seemed like pita bread from the grocery store, the pimiento cheese flavor was not strong enough, and the sandwich was just boring overall. The sharesies bumped this up to a 3 star rating, but I will probably not be back here anytime soon(at least for a full meal).

Solid. Right Proper offers a solid mix of beer and food. The place itself is chill(can I mention how nice it was to sit down near the window on a freezing night on a heated bench… I’m not sure if this is on purpose of if the bench is just on top of the heater but my ass offers a thousand thank yous). Anyway, the ambience is nice. It’s obvious that gastropubs in this area invite the oh so trendy of diners(lol) but it was still offered a cool vibe. The brussel sprouts were something to write home about. Cooked perfect with a great flavor. The pulled pork gets an A in my book, and the hash sundae… a perfect cheat. Now on to the important… the beer duh! Wonkee Moon, thank you dear lord for sending this. I love sours, this beer was sour but not too sour to the point where you could only have one. My husband sampled a bunch of beers and had no complaints about any. His favorite was the bret, remarking that it’s not easy to make a solid bret… whatever that means but I’m sure you beer lovers will understand and take note. My only complaint, most beers were just under 5%…every now and then a girl would like a heavy hitter, maybe offer one double IPA? Just a thought. For you non beer drinkers, they have wine on tap!

After having tried their beers at a tasting event I was excited to try their beers from the source. Our last stop was here and on a Saturday night, this place is clearly popular. I like breweries and brewpubs but this doesn’t have the usual brewpub feel, almost club like than it was a brewery. The beers I sampled off site were delicious. The alt, great. The Belgian style Golden ale? Terrific. The beers they had here during my visit? The wit with peppercorns was overpowered by the peppercorn. The Grisette beer was pretty good, the last one I had that evening. However, what’s sad is that the biere de garde was disappointing. I’m all for experimentation but the wild strains of yeast they added just seemed like it was for the hell of it. The beer itself was a little disappointing with an added funkiness that didn’t complement the malt. The locale was underwhelming and the beers on tap were also equally just meh.

Love the place — the delicious food, the deco, even their own special hot sauce. It is right beside the Howard Theatre, so it is a good place to eat and have a drink before the show.

I’d give this place 3.5 stars– it’s good enough to go back, but isn’t a standout. I like the bar atmosphere and it is a chill but busy place to be on a weekend night. I’ve also had pretty good service here. The beers are decent, although each time I am here, I feel like half of the beer offerings are out of tap. I like the newly opened Brookland Taphouse better in terms of trying more of right proper’s beer. I’ve also tried a spattering of their food/appetizer options. The brussel sprouts with thai chili sauce were good– but honestly the chili sauce was too sweet and overpowering for my taste. The fried chicken sandwich was pretty good as well, although it isn’t something I’d go out of my way to have again. The fries are average. All in all, it is a nice neighborhood bar/brewpub that isn’t particularly remarkable but if you happen to be in the area and want a decent microbrew and burger this is not a bad choice.

I enjoy coming here to grab drinks with friends on the weekend. I have actually come here for my birthday as well this past year. The bar was very crowded, but it only took about 15 minutes to claim a few seats. I told the bartender that I wanted a «birthday drink» and he made a really fun and beautiful martini for me in a coupe. I felt very special. The food looks great as well, but by the time I usually get there the full menu is not an option. The ciders there are also great when they have them, but they seem to run out quick if you get there later in the night.

We ate dinner here too recently and I was just as impressed. The food was well done and tasty. It was super busy as usual, but the service was pretty quick. We were in and out in about an hour. They have a lot of menu items I’d like to try. Whether it’s beer or food you should give it a try!

So we loved the location because it is literally next door to the Howard Theatre, where we were scheduled to see Lauryn Hill. So that was a plus! The place smelled kind of off, and the staff was super nice about moving us to a nicer place setting. The mac and cheese looked amazing but tasted like cafeteria food. The fries I plucked from my friend’s plate were so good! So that’s a plus. I wouldn’t come back unless it was to hang out before a show at the theater.

This place is awesome! My friend is from Kentucky and she’s had quite a few fried chicken sandwiches in her day, we went together and she absolutely raves about the chicken sandwiches at this place– DELICIOUS(see the pic!). On top of that– what you think are the happy hour prices… AREACTUALLYTHEIREVERYDAYPRICES! They have a whole range of beers on tap that range from $ 4 – 7, which is awesome. I had the Ornette, which was crisp, light and refreshing! They also have outdoor and indoor seating, and definitely a hipster vibe with small wooden tables, candles, and twinkle lights outside. Great place for groups as you can sit outside, get a table inside, or sit at the bar and very nice pricing for drinks!

Went there last night after the Pop Up Christmas Bar had a long, slow moving line. The beers were solid. I liked the Kick Kick Snare(a dry hopped Berliner Weiss), though it wasn’t anything spectacular. Raised by Wolves and Haxan also got good reviews from the group. The«sharesies» appetizers I thought were the highlight. Brussels sprouts were excellent as were the sweet potatoes(that butter!). Service from our waitress, Kaya(?), was very friendly. Room has poor acoustics and is very loud.

This truly pains me to write this because I wanted to love this place. I love craft beer, I love breweries, and most important, I love brewery/restaurant pairings but let me tell you, there was not one thing right or proper about this experience. Ok, so we were seated right away. That’s the only concession I can give on their behalf. The pale ale was decent but my second — which came 30 minutes after offering it– was all foam. And Allison, our«server» thought it was funny enough to laugh about when she was giving it to me. So we ordered pretzel bread– it never came. I was given fries with my sandwich when I wanted greens. Allison dropped off nothing– save the foamy beer, never checked on us, and we are still sitting here 20 minutes later after asking for the check. My boyfriend said his meatball hoagie was«edible but not good». My lamb dip sandwich was not very good either, but edible. Flavorless in my opinion. I’ve been apologizing to my boyfriend this entire time for insisting we come here because I’ve heard such good things. I will probably never return here, and that’s disappointing because I love craft beer but with horrendous service, I’m not willing to tolerate another frustrating experience like this.

Right proper! Right place with Proper food and drinks! I have been here a few times with my friends for happy hour and for dinner. So far the food has been on point. Although I did not have the fried chicken sandwich. I have had a lot of mac and cheese’s and Right proper does it amazingly well. I wanted to lick the plate. The brussels sprouts were also really good, as well as the kale salad. They have a great choice of beers and wines as well! This place gets packed super quick so grab a seat, and grab it early!

Uhm, i have a mixed feeling about this place. I always love going to local breweries to support the local business. When I entered the restaurant, i was told that there is going to be wait n the host gave me the buzzer. Excuse me, there were bunch of open tables? After 15 mins of «waiting», we got seated. Our server was nice and friendly. We started with the 3 for $ 18 cheese platers(love the creamy cheese options). For the beer, I opted for the RANGELIFE, a hoppy wheat beer brewed with Tropical Fruit, Citrus, Lemon Peel. It was good! I also tried their oreo dessert and it was wayyy too sweet. I will try their other beers next time! Cool hipsters crowd ;)

Ambience, location and service is 4 stars, but the beer is only 3 stars for me, as I really only liked 1 that I tried. But realize, I am not a big farmhouse or saison fan, and that is the style of this brewery. This is a great place to bring friends or coworkers and there is a large bar tasting room area, and the staff are super cool

Solid spot to grab a craft beer and a bite to eat. We wandered in not too hungry but saw their huge selection of cheeses and knew that we needed to indulge. We grabbed a couple of farmhouse style beers from the bar while we waited for a table. Five minutes later we were seated and helped by friendly staff. Everything was great besides the surprisingly one wait for the cheese platter. Didn’t know that three selections of cheese could take nearly twenty minutes to get sliced. My buddy had heard the pork rind nachos were great, and they definitely were. I’m quite glad he decided to snag them. The beer was also quite good I’ll return, just wish there was a little more urgency with the cheese slicing.

Awesome! Taste: Great beer and fantastic food! I ordered beer flight and a meatball sandwich with fries. Delicious! I like their beer mostly. They have many kinds of great cheese. Price: A little bit higher than average. Customer service: Pretty good. Atmosphere: Cool! Wicked wall pictures. Cozy brick and wooden interior. Fashionable customers and staffs. Really casual. Oh, good music. Parking: Street. $ 2 – 4. Location: Great. Close to a metro. Many cool cafes and sweet shops around here.

Based solely on the food. Disgusting. The service was fine, atmosphere was fine. Company was great. Food was comparable to hospital cafeteria food. Where do I even begin??? The worst thing was the chewy, oddly flavored over-salted hunk of deli textured meat they tried to pass off as chicken. Then there was the mealy sweet potatoes(fine whatever, not their fault) that they put scallions on. EWw! Scallions/onions and sweet potato do NOT mix, imo. The Brussels sprouts had some hope because they were nicely roasted but then they ruined them by pouring duck sauce on them. Way too sweet. Then there were the hard chunks of flavorless orange cubes in my salad that were supposedly«roasted butternut squash». Fail

I came here one night after being at Dacha Beer Garden for a few hours. We stopped by at Right Proper on a recommendation from a friend. I remember the service being pretty good and drinks being about what you’d expect from a DC bar on a Thursday night. My girlfriend and I shared the grilled cheese and fries and my friend that was with us claims he had the best French Dip he’s ever had from there. The place was kind of hipster-ish but not too bad. I’d like to come back at some point and try a few other things!

Shaw is where it is at if you are into delicious food and amazing fresh beer. Right Proper also fills growlers(most for under $ 15) and their beers are very reasonably priced. I stopped by on a Saturday afternoon and posted up at the bar. I quickly struck up a convo with Jesse, the bartender, who knew so much about beer that he may actually be somehow affiliated with making the beer. He hooked me up with a selection of small pours(another good sign of a beer spot is the small pour). All were delicious. As I imbibed I asked him for food recommendations for lunch. He suggested several but I settled on the burger. When it came out, it looked picture perfect(hence why I took the pic!). It came with a side of tasty greens instead of some greasy fries and I thought it was a nice touch, particularly because the greens were delicious. The burger was cooked to perfection and came with cheese. I opted to pass on the bacon up sell(quite possibly for the first time ever). At the end of the meal Jesse noticed I wasn’t a fan of the stout and even hooked me up with a small pour of a citrus beer! Check out this spot asap!

Very crowded and popular watering hole for the local young and affluent people with affluent prices. It was crazy to see an Orval, one of my favorite Belgian trappists, on the menu for some $ 15. Granted, they are difficult to get sometimes even in Belgium and produced only in limited quantities. But holy fuck, the pork rind nacho’s are an invention for the ages. And hey! They fit in your diet because they are gluten free.
