Skynear Designs

Really cool store! The staff member who was working there was super helpful. She asked if there was anything I was looking for in particular and also let me know there was a second floor. I wasn’t in the market for anything, but fell in love with the sofa beds. She showed me other sofas made by the designer and other alternatives.

Cool designs. Not so cool employees. I went in this past Saturday and both ladies working barely looked up from their cellphones to say hello. When I greeted them instead, one mumbled a greeting and then went back to her cellphone. Incredibly rude. My husband and I are in the midst of having our grand room designed and I was hoping to find some unique furnishing here. However, after the less than gracious way we were received (or rather, not received), we’ll be taking our business elsewhere. I had to leave after five minutes, their behavior was that off-​putting. Very disappointed, especially since a couple of items did catch my eye.

So this store has some great things and some not so great things-​like the table with the scratches all over it, at least it was on sale, but still $ 200 for something that already looks terrible? We purchased a couch here and we are very excited about it, but when we first visited the lady told us she would e-​mail us the following day to let us know whether the model we liked was in stock and what the fees would be– she never e-​mailed us. Since we really wanted the couch we returned to the store on a Wednesday evening and purchased the couch. The guy working that evening was very nice and told us he would e-​mail us once the order was processed and to let us know when the couch would be delivered– our card was already charged and he still hasn’t e-​mailed.
The lack of follow through was frustrating, but after I called and e-​mailed
a sales associate responded to me right away. We are really looking forward to receiving our new couch and we will likely return to this store in the future as we work on finishing up our apartment.

I hadn’t been to Skynear for years and went back recently, looking for pillows for a den couch and chair that I had just bought. This is the best place if you’re looking for one-​of-​a-​kind and your taste is eclectic. I found three fabulous pillows and when I said that I wanted a fourth, Annie helped me find another one to order. (One was even on sale!) The townhouse is fun to wander through and there are even small pieces of jewelry, accessories and similar items for gifts (or splurges) if you aren’t into home furnishings. Definitely worth a trip if you’re tired of look-​alike stuff from West Elm, Crate and Barrel, Room and Board, etc.

So, I have been thinking about changing some of the furniture in our house from heavy, traditional stuff to fresh and modern chairs and tables. It all started with my quest for a sputnick reproduction chandalier. Skynear did not have it, but they do have some sleek sofas, desks, dressers and more. I was shown their «design your own sofa» option which was so fab!
The furniture here is certainly unusual — stuff I hadn’t seen anyplace else, and with the urban flair I was looking for. They also carry some funky jewelry and women’s clothing.

If you don’t want your place to look like everyone else’s — obviously furnished by some combination of Crate and Barrel, Pottery Barn and Ikea — then you must invest in a few pieces from Skynear. Not that I have anything against those stores: my place probably looks like a PB catalogue. But if I could do things over again, I’d probably spend a lot more of my furnishings allowance at Skynear. They carry gorgeous, artful furniture with clean lines. Uh, Noguchi table, anyone? If you can afford to throw down $ 2 g’s for a coffee table, then this is the one on which to throw it. Yes, you’ll pay a pretty penny. But you’ll end up with a pretty pad. VERY pretty.
They’ve got several floors, so make sure you don’t miss anything. And they also offer 0 interest financing, so you don’t have to put such a big dent in your bank account all at once. I get as excited about their furniture as most women get about shoes. It’s THAT good.
