This place is amazing! The service is fantastic, the hookah is delicious, & the location is perfect. If hummus is available, get it. It is absurdly delicious. On 2nd&4th Tuesdays of the month, they do open mic comedy which is always fun too.

I went here with a couple of friends after dinner, we were looking specifically for a hookah bar and ended up here. The only hookah option was the house blend which was some sort of fruit-mint combo. There was no menu per se which I found discomforting because I like looking at menus and trying new things. I appreciate a low key place to hang out in a city that seems so uptight most of the time, but this place was closer to a garage than a restaurant/bar. I felt a little dirtier once I left. No thanks, probably won’t be back.

There are tons of hookah bars littered around Adams Morgan, and Tangier’s is just another one of them. Walking in with a couple of friends later in the evening, we were greeted by a group of drunk college kids enjoying a birthday party and then a few regulars enjoying drinks at the bar and a smoke with some friends. We grabbed a table in the back where we sat waiting a bit for server to come by. But when they finally did, drinks and hookahs were ordered quickly and came out without much delay. I wouldn’t say the hookah was the best ever, but serviceable. The drinks, however, were definitely not the greatest and were exactly what you would expect at a dingy, dive joint like Tangier’s. But as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. And Tangier’s is the perfect fit for that.

I LOVEDIT! –Lite crowd on a Friday night –Great walk from the U Street Metro Stop –MUSIC was a mix of neo soul, R&B and other awesomeness –The owner was from TALLAHASSEE, FL and welcomed me and my friends because he recognized the FAMU hoodie =) –NO Dress Code so I loved the COMEASYOUARE vibe –Hookah was $ 13!!! That alone is a reason to come back, it was very smooth and of great quality!!! There were 3 of us and we didn’t finish. I wish I had known about the menu because I would’ve tried something but I def will be back. Only reason I would’t give a 5 is because it was cold outside and there was no heat inside and every time the door opened I frooze a little. But, that didn’t stop me from staying for almost 3 hour!

The verbal menu is hilarious. We felt like we were being interrogated as to what we would order. Ended up with the house special hookah and some drinks. After we settled in was a good place to chill & talk for a couple hours.

Liked it. It was very empty on a Friday evening and basically our group got the run of the place. We plopped right in front of the large TV and watched the Olympics and with control of the remote could mute the commercials! So that was nice. When we first entered at 7 there was one other patron and we maybe saw 6 – 7 other human beings enter the restaurant the whole time we were there(til maybe 12). I can’t tell if I really liked the emptiness or found it a little weird. Hookah was $ 13!!! That alone is a reason to come back, it was very smooth and cheap compared to other places. Note: on the menu it says no hookah until 9:30, but that is not true. The server was very friendly, but the problem is there was only one of him and he may have been the chef too because he was back in the kitchen a lot. As a result service was quite slow, but he was a really nice guy. The menu was limited and the food was just OK. Pita bread was a little dry, and my couscous dish was a little bland. I probably wouldn’t go here to eat again, just to smoke. Verdict: for the«experience» factor it is hard to beat Soussi across the street. I love Soussi’s food, hookah and pleasant patio. However, Soussi is much more expensive than this place. I believe it is $ 20 for a hookah there v. $ 13 at Tangier. So Tangier blows it out of the water in terms of price, and price is important. If you want to smoke some hookah on a budget while enjoying something on TV, this is your place. Fortunately, this is EXACTLY what we wanted to do on Friday night, and we had a good time.

This place has very mixed review, so I had no expectation when I go there. The menu is simple, the deco is very simple also. I travelled in Morocco before, so though I am not an expert, but know a little about the food. Ordered some staples, Humus, merguez sausages, ground beef, bread, …etc. I actually feels like rather homey, not fancy, rather like your aunt serving you something at home. The place is very dark… Did not try the hookah, don’t like sharing a smoke, it is not hygienic in my opinion. It was so so all round.

Good service, cool atmosphere. The Hookah lasted a really long time, even when shared between 6 people! During happy hour, the drinks are really affordable for D.C. prices – you can get a nice martini or other mixed drink for $ 4. The food’s not that interesting and a little overpriced, but I came for the hookah anyway. Solid place.

So they have a verbal menu! Which means they have no set drinks. Ask for a peach ice tea? Sure, I can ‘make’ some for u… Which means he will pour some out of a can! Rum — cranberry was more like rum on te rocks! Margarita? Ugh. Cough syrup is better! Their special Moroccan drink. Like lemonade, only it went bad! The water melon hookah that does not taste like water melon and when we asked them to change it, the guy made a face! Gross. The onyl good thing about the place was that the seating was good. not too close together like most other hookah places. Also, the sweet mint tea was great! Unfortunately, both those good points are not enough for me to like this place! Will not go back! Gah!

This hookah joint is very dark and dim for a good reason. First off, the padding on the seats are dirty, burned, stained and are not too far from a baby’s diapers. Dirty and gross. Yes, it is dark in there but not dark enough to hide the roaches zooming across the walls. YUCK. The ladies bathroom is the dirtiest bathroom I have ever stepped foot into. Where’s the hand soap? Filling an empty pump of soap with water and shaking it up until you get foam does not equal soap. GROSS. The arabic music playing is slow, sad and depressing. Makes you want to fall asleep on their molded sofa seats. And people are calling this authentic? Seriously? Authentic cockroach infestations and authentic dirt and grime, then yes, it is authentic. No doubt. The hookahs spew air from the pipes so they do not work well. Not a great hookah experience so all in all this place is a major fail. The owner needs to clean it and invest some money into it.

Here’s a good place to go just to smoke some hookah. The prices are very reasonable. The inside is not the most attractive looking place, but I think it feels more authentic that way. The staff is very friendly, as well. The moroccan tea was amazing, too. Without serving alcohol, the place is pretty low key. It certainly provides a respite from the craziness of AdMo.

Low prices. Delicious Moroccan tea. Friendly staff. Great Middle Easter music. They accept credit cards. This is a great finish to a night of heavy partying in Adams Morgan. Ladies, beware of the creepers who congregate here at late hours. What’s worse than annoying creepers who won’t take no for an answer? Creepers who are high and think you’re rejections are hilarious.

Soo… after a great Moroccan restaurant experience in San Francisco, I was on a journey to find a similar one in the DC area. To my dismay, Tangier was my first experience. I wanted an amazing dinner, with belly dancers, and then hookah afterwards. I got some of that, I guess. The dinner was nothing special. The belly dancer was out sick(only one belly dancer, I guess), so there was no performance that night. The hookah was very good, though. I suspect that most people go to Tangier for that, as the whole back room was full of hookah smoke. The Moroccan tea was amazing, too!!!

It helps when walking into a shisha lounge for the first time to hear Arabic music being played because it gives you the impression that the place will probably be authentic in some regard. I went rather late on a Thursday night with some friends from out of town and the lights were either really dim or off completely. I found this a little odd until they changed the music to an exclusive mix of cheesy 80s/90s love songs and I realized what they were going for. They were all out of our first 2 or 3 choices for shisha but they have a rather extensive menu of flavors so we were still able to find something we all liked. The shisha was good, which I don’t say lightly having lived in Cairo for 5 years. We also ate dinner here which was surprisingly tasty considering the overall décor was a bit disheveled even for a hole-in-the-wall type of place. The mint tea was also great and shouldn’t be missed, as it adds some authenticity to the experience. If you’re in AdMo looking for a shisha, give this place a try.

I can’t pretend that I am super knowledgeable about hookah. But I like it enough to be able to say I try to make it a point to visit a hookah place in almost every city I visit, domestically and internationally. Tangier is definitely no-frills — a little more of the kind of place that you might actually see were you to be in Morocco. But had all the necessities — tables, chairs, shisha and hookahs to smoke out of; a menu with a range of standard fare(kebab, shwarma, hummus, various kinds of teas). No alcohol(but I won’t hold that against them). The service started out a bit slow, but then turned out to be really genuine and super nice. They made us feel really welcome and well taken care of. Wasn’t the cleanest — but who goes to smoke tobbacco out of communal hookahs and expects it not to feel a little dirty? Isn’t that a little bit the point? Cheap — $ 10.99 for one flavor(that’s pretty amazing). Moroccan tea I ordered was warm and sweetly comforting and cost like $ 2.50. My BF got a banana smoothie that was a little… rustic, but delicious none the less until a fruit fly died in it. C’est la vie. I’d come back for a cheap, low-key night.

I liked this place it was near Bourbon so convenient to walk to after a drink. The bar was very boudouir the décor was dark and reddish if I recalled. We sat down for a while before someone appeared to serve us. We ordered a hookah and two moroccan tea — too sweet for me but the hookah was prepared perfectly, I could smoke it till the end. Cleanliness could be improved at this bar. Overall, it was good I’ll go there again.

Wow, such diverse reviews about this place. I guess it depends which days/nights you go and who is working there. Well, one night, 6 of us came here to kick back and enjoy some hookah. The guy working there gave us a combo that was interesting and enjoyable. He was attentive to ensure that our coal was still burning. Overall, I had a good time there. However, this was my first time with hookah. So, I’ll need to explore the other lounges. Regardless, I had a good time there. However, there are two complaints I have about this place. One, it was a bit stuffy in there. I don’t enjoy having beads of sweat on my forehead. Two, some of the furniture need to be replaced for comfort. Oh, good news, apparently this place has wi-fi, because this girl at the next table was enjoying her hookah with a laptop in front of her.

Got in here, sat down, and the waiter immediately looked like he didn’t want to deal with us. Yet he kept pestering us to order drinks and food even though we just wanted to hookah. Apparently there is a manager policy that hookah can only be shared by two people, and you HAVE to order some type of drink. I have never heard of anything like this in any hookah bar I have been to. When we asked for a large teapot of tea, the waiter basically made us upgrade it to a XL and even. Even now I’m pretty sure he showed us the large teapot and ripped us off by giving us the large size. When we asked for water they gave us back bottled water for 2 bucks a piece, no tap water in the house. How does a restaurant not have tap water? Hookah had no flavor, when we tried it, tobacco pieces came out the nozzle. Look for another hookah bar, not worth your time and money to haggle with the management and waiters here.

Wow, it is hard to even explain the horrible treatment that my friends and I received at this lounge last night. It was around 2:45 when we appeared. Though it was not full they took forever to seat us. Once we were finally seated, the owner and several waiters came over to insist that we order some kind of food or drink though we explained that we had already eaten and we were just there for hookah. There was a large group of people that didn’t order anything seated at a the table next to us. My group and I knew some of the people in that group, but we explained repeatedly that we were not with them– we were a party of 5. They continued to yell at our tables because no one at the other table ordered anything(they had only been seated for 3 – 4 minutes) and threatened to call the police until the group walked out. Foolishly the 5 of us decided to stick it out. They then told us that hookah could only be shared between 2 people. I’ve never heard this in my life. But we said«Fine, may we have some water while we decide to whether to order an additional hookah?» They bring back a bottle of water and tell us that they don’t have tap water. How do they wash their dishes?! Resigned, we just bought two bottles and did the hookah. Initially I considered ordering a snack to go, but their treatment made me feel awful. Never ever coming back. If I could give negative stars I would.

I had really high hopes this place would be nice based on the reviews I read on Unilocal.Unfortunately, our experience here was awful. We had dinner and shisha here. We ordered the three side and rice for dinner and the chicken shwarma. The babaganoush lacked flavor, and the chicken shwarma was one ofthe worst I’ve ever had. The shisha tasted like ash and to top it all off when we went to pay the bill we had been overcharged(they charged us for each side instead of giving us the price for the three side special). When we asked the waiter/owner to correct their mistake he blamed us for not rejecting the food when they brought it to out table. How were we supposed to know how large the sides were supposed to be? It was our first time there. The menu also indicated that students would receive a 10% discount, but when we were paying our bill they informed us that the 10% only applied to the shisha which was not indicated anywhere on the menu. I’ve lived in the middle east and have been smoking shisha for 10 years and the fact that this has been the worst experience I’ve had at a shisha place should warn anyone inclined to trying this place against it.
