Everything about this place is amazing, from the customer service down to the food. They’re quick, and the atmosphere makes you never want to leave. This place is one of my favorite chill spots.

This is always my goto sushi bar for happy hour special in the city. They even have happy hour pricing on the weekends, very unusual, but I love it! The sushi is great quality, the place is conveniently located near metro, and it is never super crowded. I always get way more sushi than I need, but I don’t mind. I usually hate any roll with tuna, but the seared tuna roll is on point. I also really like their soups. The tom yum is a little salty but the flavors are all there, also the Tom Kha Gai is worth trying. The chicken is tender, the broth creamy and spicy, and the vegetables are fresh. I would recommend this to anyone with a sushi/thai craving!

As a lover of Thai food, I was unbelievably disappointed with my visit here. Chicken was dry and very bland. The sushi came out in pieces so large they required being cut in half in order to fit them in your mouth, which led to all the filling falling out on the plate. I have no need to ever go back.

Only come here for the sushi. The Thai dishes are terrible — especially the choo chee shrimp.

Try the Thai Chef Special(Curry-Style Soup/Broth) in Hot Pot with Rice – (and shrimp/chicken). It was delicious and you get a large portion. Order a piña colada and bring good company – that’s the recipe for a great time.

This place is near where I work so I decided to take out a couple of rolls of sushi. The spicy tuna roll was good, as they really pack the crunchy in it. The spider roll was a bit of a disappointment because it was only 4 pieces for the roll. I guess this is not so bad for $ 8, but I was expecting more. Tastewise it was ok, you could only really taste the avocado and the crunchy crab but its nothing to come back for or to recommend, I would not order it again. I thought the rice on these rolls were rather«smushy» but that may just be me! Sushi here is to satisfy your cravings for the time being, but not to get all excited and hype to your friends about. On the other hand, their happy hour specials seem very good as the rolls are half priced and the cocktails are $ 4. I think these prices make it worth coming back. Also a tip is that happy hour is only served dinning in!

Look at your bill before tip! Mybrother and I went to dc for vacation week ago! And I was ate some food from here. The food was very good and sushi too. But When we ask for the bill, they CHARGE us 18% for tips already. Im not sure in washington DC can charge tip for 2 person table or no! But In where I live they can’t charge me fo no reason. Im not sure If they put that they’ll charge on the manu. But If not. Please check your bill again. Eventhough We are Thai people too.

Went during happy hour and ordered two sushi rolls and a Cosmo. The Cosmo is decent and is a happy hour special which is great. First sushi roll down before the second one came out. A bit slow with it but nevertheless seems like a decent place.

There is absolutely no reason to go here. I sit down at the sushi bar and, first of all, it was possibly the most uncomfortable stool I’ve ever encountered. It’s this weird pointy oval shape and the points curve upward so that they press into the sides of your butt. Unless you have the ass of a supermodel or small child, it is too big for this stool. And then trying to dismount was basically begging the thing to jam me right in the hoohoowhatsit. That stool alone is reason to never come back. I came in because I wanted sushi and Raku was closed for renovations. I looked at the sushi menu, however, and absolutely nothing on their menu struck me as desirable. So I ordered the shrimp in clay pot. This dish turned out pretty tasty, but there were only a few shrimp and a lot of it was cabbage filler. For $ 14.99 I suppose it could have been a pretty affordable meal, but I felt unsatisfied. Also, the waitress brought me a fork without me asking. Girlfriend, don’t assume that Gringa can’t handle chopsticks, OK? I could pluck your eyes out with them. Anyway, unsatisfied and only just now realizing that there are sushi specials listed on a whiteboard hanging over the bar I decide to order a few rolls. Spicy avocado with peanut –never heard of that before, seemed intriguing — for $ 6. And then spicy crunchy smoked salmon with avocado for $ 8.50. Ew, and ew. The spicy avocado with peanut was like eating peanut butter with some avocado in it. The smoked salmon was pale pink and flacid, and had a flavor that seemed closer to BBQ than lox. The mixture of that with crunchy and then the«spicy» — presumably some viscous chili goo concoction that added a prefab sweetness rather than any legitimate kick — was just wrong. I left most of the sushi untouched when I asked for my bill. She brought it to me and didn’t say a word about my not eating most of my «sushi.» And then after tip — bearing in mind that my only beverage was water, my bill came out to almost $ 40. For $ 40 at raku — or any number of other restaurants nearby — I could have had a magnificently satisfying meal. The nicest thing I can say about the sushi here is that it probably won’t kill you. Seriously. It’s pointless, don’t go.

Salmon teriyaki is too tough! Actually, it’s tougher than an overcooked beef! The server said that its all prepared that way. We returned it and order Five Spice Duck… It’s equally awful! It’s gamy and tough! I hope that the owner will sit down and try the food they’re serving the people! Shame on you!

We came here for a little dinner get-together, and I was pretty excited to check Thai Chef out, as I’d never heard about this place before. This Thai restaurant has been around since ’90, and they offer Thai specialties(soups, salads, curries, chicken/beef/seafood specialties, etc.), as well as sushi and a HH menu(everyday between 4−7PM). We shared: Crunchy Shrimp(with shrimp, avocado, and tempura flakes), Crunchy Smoked Salmon(with smoked salmon and tempura flakes), and the Crunchy White Albacore(white tuna and tempura flakes); the maki rolls were pretty fresh, and I was surprised that it was pretty decent for the DuPont Circle area! The hubs tried the Pad See Ewe(I was a little disappointed that regular broccoli was used, rather than Chinese broccoli; however, I thought it was pretty tasty, whereas the hubs thought it was a bit too sweet). Service was super friendly and efficient, and our water was always refilled. We sat in the main dining room area where we had a view of the sushi bar, and the place was pretty packed. I liked how we were notified that HH was wrapping up soon, as having the option of putting in more order for bargain maki rolls was given to us: D If you’re looking for a laid-back maki spot in the area, check Thai Chef out! +HH menu daily, 4−7PM +crunchy maki rolls +friendly & efficient staff +limited free residential parking around the block

Came here for HH on Tuesday. We were seated immediately. The waitress was not the best. A little rude and failed to check in with us frequently. Orders dumpling and sushi along with beer. The dumplings were gross I’m sorry. I always order dumpling from other restaurants but the«veggie dumplings@ served here were nasty, just a bad after taste. Once I sent the dumplings back the staff really neglected me and my friend. Too busy talking about us in the corner and staring me down I doubt I will come back. The beer was norm but the service eh. I’ve had better.

Thai chef is my go to Thai restaurant in the Dupont area. Their pad thai and sushi are solid, but not amazing. The sushi happy hour is pretty great. Also good Thai iced tea!

If you like sushi and paying half price(who doesn’t?) this is the place to go to in Dupont after work. You can get a whole bunch of sushi and not break the bank which is nice. I would say the quality of fish is pretty decent and there are usually about 3 sushi chefs behind the bar who have your sushi to you within minutes. I don’t come here that often since I don’t find the staff overly friendly even though they are usually attentive. I also hate the fact that if you sit at the bar there are no hooks to put your coat and they don’t offer the closet behind the hostess station so unless you know about it and ask to hang your coat up you’ll have to place it under you or on your lap which is just plain inconvenient.

I came here for dinner with a friend about a month ago. They had a really good happy hour for drinks and sushi going on. The veggie dumplings were a little too watery for my liking. The consistency was strange and I wasn’t impressed with the flavor. The sushi was pretty good and the portions were great with their happy hour prices. I don’t think we really needed a reservation on a Wednesday night, but it’s rather small, so it’s better to be safe than sorry. Even though the sushi was good, I’d probably check around for a better overall menu next time I’m craving sushi in the area.

5 stars for service, 3 stars for the Cashew Chicken and 4 stars for the Shrimp Tempura Sushi The staff was very friendly and efficient! The sushi was cut into 4 pieces but they were gigantic so it was impossible to eat in one bite. I love the sweet sauce they add to it though! And they don’t skimp on the shrimp either! The dinner portion was more like a lunch portion. I barely had enough for a second meal, whereas at other Thai restaurants I have enough for 2 other meals. There was more vegetables than chicken in the dish. Also the vegetables are cut larger than bite size. Overall, it was a sweet sauce which is not what I’m used to eating at other Thai restaurants.(I even asked for it spicy, which it wasn’t) All in all, I will be back for the Shrimp Tempura sushi during happy hour and order something else for dinner next time.

Wasn’t blown away by the food here and I think I made a mistake not ordering the sushi. Everyone I talked to after said that the sushi is the way to go! However, I ordered a Thai dish and it was good but nothing great. It wasn’t spicy like I thought it would be and it was kind of just a very ‘blah’ dinner. Not to mention it is incredibly loud in there. I went with my boyfriend on a Friday evening and it felt like we were yelling to each other most of the evening. I’m not sure if I’ll return, maybe to try the sushi?

(2.5 stars) Pretty average place. Been here a few times for happy hour for some cheap sushi and haven’t been too impressed with it. For six pieces, both the spicy tuna and salmon rolls are under $ 5. The spicy tuna is average but the salmon is disappointing. Not a bad place for some cheap sushi but I wouldn’t get it if it wasn’t happy hour.

Great place for sushi and drinks. You can’t beat their service or happy hour prices from 4 until 7 I do believe. Oh and did I mention it’s HH everyday of the week! They make a wonderful Thai ice tea too!

Great spot to get good, cheap sushi and basic Thai food. Sushi is half-off during happy hour, which is every day(!) from 4 – 7PM. I always order the chicken panang or pad see ew and have never been disappointed. The New York roll(seared salmon, asparagus, spicy mayo, tempura flakes) and spicy crunchy tuna roll are my go-to favorites for their sushi. The service has always been attentive and pleasant, and I love it when the weather is nice because they open the big windows in the front!
