I went on a Saturday night it was very busy but the hostess told me to go to the loft which is in the way back upstairs and it was empty but filled up quick. I ordered a burger and fries and a Cosmo and a Mule everything was delicious. The bartenders were friendly.

Things worth mentioning right out the gate: — This restaurant is gorgeous, but not stodgy. — The prices on the menu are not shock-inducing. This was a pleasant surprise. — You should get dessert. Even if you need to share it, you should do it. — Menu offerings are diverse and plentiful. Sometimes, this can be scary, but Hamilton manages to deftly execute everything from steak to sushi. I happened into Hamilton for a team dinner while on a work trip. Our party of 6 was fortunate to have a reservation, because with some snow coming down, the restaurant was filling quickly. Our server was cheerful and very willing to share recommendations — always a good thing. Food trickles to the table, because we all ordered a mix of apps, salads, and plates. Instead of going with a full entrée, I chose the lunch portion of the squid ink bucatini with seafood(tasty, tossed in a spicy basil gremolata… though I found myself wishing the mussels and clams has been a bit meatier) and a small plate of roasted pork belly and seared scallops with parsnip purée(an excellent choice, with the scallops crisped to perfection, and the pork belly unctuous, but not flabby). I had the chance to taste a couple of other items from the table — the spicy tuna roll was well executed, and the Brussels sprouts salad crisp and fresh — and closed out my meal with the chocolate hazelnut bread pudding(the chocolate ice cream on top is RIDICULOUSLY good, and rather show-stealing). Oh, and I am told the milkshakes are insane(both in that they are good, and that you can add booze to them). Next time, the Earl Gray milkshake will be on my list!

Upstairs is a pretty swanky restaurant and bar, filled with beautiful, young, well dressed White House staffers. The menu is a little pricey and the place is plenty touristy, but a beautiful, wood paneled, warm feel even though it is crowded and noisy. Downstairs is a great music venue. There is a cover charge, last night it was $ 8 for standing(but you can sit in the bar area) or $ 12 for a table. We chose the bar and it was really great. We got there early enough to get seats and we were very comfortable. Good choice of local beers on tap, $ 7.10 and under.(Why the added 10 cents?) The bar menu has an eclectic mix of foods; pizza and sushi! We had the special BBQ brisket pizza and several sushi rolls and a bowl of edemame. Everything was surprisingly good. The wait staff was super attentive and friendly. The bands were extremely fun and the space is really well appointed to have good sound and god flow. Bathrooms are big and clean. An over all excellent experience!

I’ve only been here once, and only for drinks, so I can’t vouch for the restaurant side or the food. They also have live music on the lower level with a very nice stage area with great seating and bar area. There is also a small sushi bar, but a friend of ours said the sushi wasn’t very good. I’ll update this review if we ever get around to trying it for ourselves. During the day, it’s always easy to find a place to sit in the bar, but on Saturday nights, the place is packed! No matter how busy, the staff is working hard and very friendly. Annika, the waitress we had that Saturday night was awesome, always making sure we had drinks or food when we needed it with out us having to look for her. She just smiled, shrugged it off and kept our drinks coming, which she was tipped very well for! If you are in DC and looking to for a place to take a break from all your sightseeing, check out The Hamilton!

I use to work around the area so when the old Borders book store was turning into a restaurant I was very excited! This place is huge! But must be warned, they are always busy in the evenings. I usually never dine in, I find a seat at the bar and enjoy. Staff is super friendly! They also have concerts downstairs. I go for their sushi, usually thursday evening. The fish are usually delivered on that morning! I love their sushi. It is fresh and there are many different options from the simple sashimi lover to the exotic rolls. Not only loved for their sushi and drinks but their other options are delish! Mini burgers, wings, sweet potatoe fries, name it they have it. no oysters tho! You have to go next door for that!

Happy Hour Review! 3−6pm everyday, they have sushi happy hour. Now the –0.5 star are for the lack of hot sake and izakaya menu. The rolls were fantastic, we tried: ***** the fire dragon roll(spicy tuna, fresh water eel, avocado, smelt roe, scallion). This was my favorite roll. It was full in flavor and had 8 pieces. I ended up ordering another round of this! **** tiger fur(tuna, salmon, yellowtail, avocado, kelp wrap). This roll had the most value, they use 3 fishes and they do not skimp out on the amount of fish they give you. I was sitting at the sushi bar and watched them make these bad boys. Although it was lacking in flavor, you get a good amount of sashimi in this roll. The kelp wrap was interesting and added to the visual appearance of the roll. ***** spider roll(tempura soft shell crab, asparagus, habanero tobiko). one of my favorite rolls, the hamilton does this roll right, with one whole crab wrapped correctly, this crunchy perfection satisfied my need for hot izakaya foods. **** dynamite(tempura calamari, spicy scallop, spicy lump crab, habañero tobiko, soy bean paper). this was a very interesting roll, i liked how it was topped with two different toppings(spicy scallop vs spicy lump crab) i like the different variety, but enjoyed the spicy lump crab more. For the nigiri and sashimi, we tried: Salmon, Escolar, and Uni. The uni was small in size, but the 2 small uni $ 4 is still worth getting. The Escolar is a white fish and has a creamy like texture, a very flavorful cooked fish. The salmon sashimi is your standard sashimi size and the cut of fish has a bit more fat. Their wasabi is fresh ground, you don’t put it in your soy sauce, but rather put it on your sushi to eat it fresh. Their drinks, we tried the orion rice lager, it was $ 10, light and crisp. A good beer to drink with your sushi. We also tried 2 cocktails, the New England Grog, and Betty’s Apple. I really like the NEGrog, it reminds me of this other grog drink that i’ve once had. The flavors were well balanced and had a good amount of depth in flavor. My gf liked her Betty’s Apple, it was boozy and tart. For the price this is a great happy hour food place. We will definitely be back to have more of their delicious sushi. Parking at a garage next door for $ 18.

I finally made it to this popular D.C. restaurant and music venue. I wanted to see what the hoopla was all about. We came here Saturday night for appetizers. We were pleasantly greeted by a hostess and was led to a table. It was actually a cozy booth located next to a window. While waiting for the server, I had a chance to observe the scenery. The atmosphere is gorgeous! Dim lighting, high ceilings, nice art work, and lovely wood paneling occupy most of the space. The clientele are twenty and thirty something’s with a few baby boomers mixed in. Our server finally appeared and took our order. The menu is unimpressive, overpriced, and very limited. The sushi menu in comparison is very extensive and full of variety. Great for a sushi lover. Unfortunately, I don’t eat sushi. We decided on the Miso soup, Edamame, and Shrimp Tempura over Cole Slaw. The Miso Soup was delicious. It was seasoned to perfection with a slight smoky flavor. The Edamame was fresh and tasty. However, the Shrimp Tempura over Coleslaw was subpar. The Aioli sauce drenched over it was too salty and heavy. Our server was fairly cordial. She seemed inexperienced. The attentiveness was barely there. She could have checked in a little more often and an offer for dessert would have been appreciated. I had to ask her at one point to remove the empty glasses and plates that lingered a bit too long on our table. Overall, the food and service was just mediocre. The raucous group of eight or more a few tables away made the dining experience less enjoyable. It will be a snowy day in July before, I make another dinner reservation at The Hamilton.

My boyfriend surprised with a reservation here for my birthday dinner! It was absolutely perfect ! The place is huge with many different bars and dining areas, all are well decorated with dark wood and the lights are dim. I felt like I was a character in Mad Men. There was a lively vibe with large groups of friends as well as couples having a date night, but the tables were not so close together that you couldn’t enjoy your own conversation. Our waiter was awesome, although he was very busy. We were in no rush so didn’t mind waiting on anything. They have a huge wine and cocktail list and wines at every price. I was pleased to be able to get one of my favorite bottles for a reasonable amount. They also give you a basket of the most amazing sourdough bread to start with. Because one basket of bread is just not enough, we also ordered a charcuterie board to start. It was so so good. We chose a couple of different types of meat and it came with bread, a delicious spicy mustard and pickled vegetables. I ordered the crabcake entrée. It was perfect and came with butternut squash three ways. By boyfriend has the gnocchi and it was really good as well. Our waiter presented us with a dessert menu after the meal and we chose the hazelnut bread pudding(I know, more bread). I was surprised when it came out with a candle and happy birthday chocolate. It was a nice gesture and not over the top. The dessert was so good, I am still craving that chocolate ice cream and bourbon soaked cherries. We went upstairs to the loft after dinner for some cocktails and music. Loved the atmosphere up there. They have a great cocktail menu and its a very chill atmosphere. Its awesome to only have to walk upstairs and be in a completely different environment after dinner. Post midnight it got really crowded and they could have used another bartender. We had to wait a while for another round and I ended up getting the wrong drink, but it was good so I didn’t complain. It was the perfect spot if you want to do something special but not spend a ridiculous amount of money. Would definitely recommend.

This place is huge. It covers about the whole block so don’t be surprised if there is no wait even when they look like they are packed. The restaurant is across the street from the W Hotel and a couple blocks from the White House. Their menu is pretty extensive as well. They have burgers, sandwiches, pastas, seafood, sushi, steak, etc. Beware that the service is slow. Here’s what I got and can recommend/warn you about: — Crispy Sugar Toads: These are not toads and they are not sweet. They are puffer fish. They are pretty darn good for deep fried fish. Dish comes with about 4. Fish was not dried and anything deep fried can’t go wrong so great start to the meal. — Wagyu Carpaccio & Oysters: Could’ve done without this dish. The oysters were non-existent with the breadcrumbs taking over when deep fried. — Fried Calamari: Where is the marinara sauce? It came with saffron aioli — not a fan. — 14 oz dry aged ribeye frites: Ordered mine medium(came out about medium well). Fries came with truffle sauce but they were too greedy on the truffle. Wish they added some mushrooms to this. Overall, it was okay. — Chili Broccoli: Overcooked, too soggy. I like broccoli with a crunch so not a fan. — Key Lime Pie: Not a fan, I usually like tart dessert but this one was just missing something If you aren’t craving anything in particular and want a fusion of food, come to The Hamilton. They will sit you immediately and you’ll have a good time.

This review is only for the late night experience. After partying, my friend and I were both hungry and need some late night fix. We came here around 12:30, they have late night happy hour, which was awesome. Sushi is half price. We ordered two sushi rolls and cheeseburger slider. I only ate one of the sushi rolls, the spider. It is a soft shell crab deep fried and crafted to a sushi roll. Very crunchy and yummy. Typical American take on sushi, I actually like it. Although I can only speak for the late night dining experience, the service here is absolutely top notch. At 12:30 there is very few people dining and our waiter and waitress were very friendly and didn’t rush in a single bit despite it was close to the last call time of the kitchen. The decoration here is very classy, clientele is more mature. Bar was still crowded when we left. I will come back again for more food for sure.

What is it with DC and overpriced mediocre food? I was really excited to try The Hamilton because I love the Clydes group, Old Ebbitt in particular. The $ 19 steak salad was a soggy mess and I wasn’t offered a beverage? Server literally told me it’s a tough time of day for the kitchen(between lunch and dinner). They did take the salad off which I appreciate but come on guys, you’re killing me. Never again.

We ate here for lunch. This fancy schmancy place has tight seating in the booths. Not for plump people. They have a broad selection of food and drinks. It’s scary when they serve burgers and sushi. It makes me think the food will be horrible. I tried the brussel sprouts. They were amazing and perfectly coated in a savory vinaigrette. Since they had an extensive sushi menu I decided to go with sushi against my better judgment. The waitress didn’t know what ponzu sauce was. Neither did the guy delivering the sushi to the table. It took a few tries before we got it straightened out Here’s the sushi I ordered: Escolar — looked gray in color with pinkish tint. It wasn’t raw. I don’t think it was escolar. It didn’t taste or look like it. Unagi — looked beautiful bit tasted cold and wet. Made me think of the Chevy Chase vacation movie where the dog peed on the sandwiches. California roll — the rice was dry and the roll tasteless. Tuna avocado roll — the tuna was the best out but drowned out by the dry sticky rice. The rice got stuck to my sleeve and fused itself to the material. Grand Maine sangria — dry and flat on taste. They use a red wine. I didn’t care to ask what type since I wouldn’t be ordering another glass. Dark chocolate crème brûlée — if you like chocolate this is for you. It was thick and creamy. The spoonful of whip cream on top was tasteless. They did not take a torch to it. The sugar on top was soft and wet from condensation. This place was packed during lunch. I don’t understand the appeal. I didn’t like any of the expensive items I ordered except for the brussel sprouts which weren’t my pick. I shared from someone else’s plate. It made me sad that nothing was enjoyable from the seating to the service. The server was slow and uninformed. I’d return again to try another item but don’t want to be disappointed.

3.5 stars. Appetizers For the apps we tried the scallops/pork belly and the tuna tartar as recommended by our waitress. scallops pork belly was a little dissapointing on size but had good flavor and presentation. Interestingly enough both were served on apple butter. Probably wouldnt get it again. The tuna tar tar on the other hand was great, served mixed with guacomole, and topped with balsalmic. It came in a reasonable portion, I would get it again. Salad They were nice enough to split our harvest salad into 2 neatly organized plates. Salad was good but I thought the blue cheese overly dominate over the apple and vinegrette. Pasta Got the Rigatoni turkey ragu and mushroom gnocci, loved both. The shredded turkey was very flavorful went great with the rigatoni, cheese and marinara. Mushroom gnochi had really small sized gnochi with a healthy portion of mushrooms. Mains Berkshire pork shnitzel was great, vegetarian chef medley was decent and the oxtail pot pie left something to be desired. The schnitzel was well portioned with a healthy side of brussel sprouts, and sweet potato mash. The brussel sprouts might have been my favorite item of the night, they were cooked in balsamic and very soft, not flash fried. The vegetable medley might have been the neatest looking entrée. Well organized lentils, squash, and sprouts. Jesse enjoyed this dish but Marissa was turned off by the hint of mustard in the sauce. Marissa also not a fan of the oxtail pot pie. The oxtail was too bristly for her liking. Thats all we got, I’d like to try a boozy milkshake in the future. Our service was excellent and Aubs enjoyed the Malbec. I had a sip too it was pretty good.

came to the bar portion just for drinks but the restaurant does expand inwards and even has a sushi bar! my friends thought their drinks were way too strong which is usually NOT a bad thing, but i guess we were trying to have a more leisurely night –white peach sangria: way too sweet the bartender/waiter who was helping us was SORUDE with an attitude that he really ruined our time apparently the hamilton is owned by the same company as the old ebbitt grill!

«Burger and fries wrapped in a classy setting.» We decided to stop by for a mid-day meal on our last day in DC. The menu on display showed some promising items(specifically the truffle fries). We were immediately greeted, welcomed, and seated in a nice and comfortable booth. The bar area gives a feeling for grandeur with a hint of class. The tile floors, wood panel walls/ceiling and overall space design suggests an ideal centralized gathering place for after work mingling and networking. Our server was prompt and as if for some empathic reason knew what to recommend. I ordered the Belmont Manhattan and the Hamilton Burger with Truffle fries. The cocktail arrived within minutes and was served with a complimentary introduction/history on the Belmont Farm whiskey. The cocktail had a perfect blend of vermouth, bitters and whiskey. No detail was spared as even the cherry was bourbon soaked. This was a nice pre-meal cocktail as we unwind from our walk around the National Mall. The Hamilton burger was nothing short of phenomenal. The house cured bacon was crisp and the Vermont cheddar was perfectly melted. The sunny side egg was a great match to the burger. The truffle fries was delicious by itself and was still hot and crispy. Overall presentation was equally impressive. The server made sure to stop by on numerous occasions for water refills and conversations regarding our vacation in DC. The classic ambience, prompt service, excellent food and conversation has left a positive impression. I vow to return to sample the sushi menu next trip to DC.

Whoa, I’m the 1000th reviewer of the Hamilton! How exciting! I visited recently for brunch with a friend and really enjoyed it. The service is friendly and efficient and the atmosphere is classy. I ordered an apple cider drink with my brunch. Very nice seasonal drink. For food, I ordered the crabcake benedict with hollandaise sauce. It came with roasted potatoes. Very delicious and filling portion. My friend ordered the quiche and that looked good as well. The only reason I’m giving this place 4 stars is that I took some food to go for my fiancé — I ordered a burger, but he said it was very plain and didn’t even come with fries, despite the fact I paid around $ 15 for it. Other than that, this place was great. Tasty food, good service, and convenient location.

Three and a half stars. Haven’t attended the performances and I’m jazz-ambivalent, but I like Hamilton’s Southern-trending menu better than Clyde’s, plus it’s fractionally less crowded. Service was friendly and moderately attentive. Half-portion options for pasta in case you feel like mixing and matching. Sushi counter shut down a few hours earlier than the kitchen, so I didn’t get to try the octopus ceviche. Wings were better than the sushi roll we tried; I was more pleased overall by the entrees and comforting sides. Whipped sweet potatoes even had some toasted marshmallow to garnish, and liberal amounts of dairy kept the cauliflower gratin from tasting too healthy. All fried items were evenly crispy, proteins were tender and adequately seasoned. Fair variety in the tap list and craft liquor shelf. Cocktails skew on the high side of average, but I’ve been satisfied with their bourbon & rye concoctions, more so than the boozy milkshakes. Looking forward to trying future twists on B&R classics, plus the Sake green tea and Squash Purgatory. Food hit list: lobster bisque, scallop & pork belly, wild mushroom gnocchetti, muffuleta; bucatini carbonara, shrimp & grits, chicken & biscuits, beignets.

The Hamilton is a restaurant with a beautiful music venue basement. Follow the lit steps into the gigantic show space downstairs. Don’t worry, there are plenty of tables and chairs to eat dinner or grab a drink while you listen to some tunes. I came to The Hamilton to see ALO and Fruition last Thursday and had a wonderful time here. The space is beautiful and wonderfully decorated. The staff is friendly and quick. What I didn’t like was the two-level pricing. When you walk into the basement, the staff will give you a bracelet indicating where you can stand or sit. If you pay extra, you can sit at the tables near the front and also sit close to the second-floor railing. Everyone else can stand or sit at some of the more hidden or uncomfortable tables. The design of the venue just doesn’t feel like it was made to have this two-level pricing business. It makes more sense if there was a flat price and everyone could move around and sit where they pleased. Also, the drinks and food aren’t cheap, so be willing the spend some money. I did not eat anything, but the food did look and smell good.
