I have been a member of Waterside since I moved to SW over ten years ago. I love it! The outdoor pool in the summer is heaven and the inside pool, which is heated, is perfect for water exercise and my favorite, yoga in the water. I also have participated in land yoga classes, used the machines AND taken advantage of the Progressive PT place on site, especially the therapeutic massage there. Given my frequent travel, I appreciate that I can drop in on classes when I am in town. And the best part? The people. Staff are kind, welcoming, and knowledgable.(No one is paying me to write this, by the way.) My only hesitation in submitting this? That everyone will sign up!

I used to go to another gym(more expensive downtown) and I have to say that I’m quite happy with Waterside gym. For the price they have a good selection of classes and a large pool. Unfortunately they don’t have so much equipment but it’s enough for what I do: little run, elliptic, abs and tights.

I was a member for three years. My needs were basic and this place is pretty convenient for someone who lives on the Hill. The price was good, too, about $ 50 a month per person. Downside: the staff and management seemed to encourage men who appeared to be homeless to use the locker room. I have pretty low standards, but I got so grossed out by them that I eventually stopped using the locker room and finally just switched memberships altogether. This had gone on for several months. I miss the place. Great location. Needs better management.

So yes, I live in Waterside Towers, and being the lazy, but gym going person I am I was too lazy to sign up at Golds a few blocks away. That being said — this gym is designed to be cost effective, and was built in a building that well they layout isn’t the best, and is probably strange to some(workout equipment around the pool) but c’est la vie. If you don’t enjoy or at least find 1960s architecture interesting, you probably won’t find yourself in SW, maybe for work or seafood but probably not living here. I absolutely positively love, love, love my neighborhood and this gym. Although limited in space, they do have quite a bit of equipment, and I never find it that busy. I also really, really enjoy the Tuesday and Thursday Step and Sculpt Classes, a good compact body changing workout, the early morning workout class options, and if you want to dance(or at least feel like you can) try the classes on M, W, and Sat! The staff is so welcoming, as are the other gym-goers, and well I haven’t felt that at most chain gyms I’ve been to. Oh and there is an indoor and(awesome if I do say so myself) outdoor pool, so if you’re a swimmer this place is awesome. Yes the pink ladies bathroom is weird, yes there are a lot of older folks, but you know I feel entirely comfortable as an average sized woman working out here. If they had a spin room, this place would be perfect(I really like spin classes for no apparent reason).

Overall pretty good, but over the past year, the management has been allowing outside swim instructors to use the pool to give private lessons, recently allowing 2 of the 4 lanes to be used by instructors who make money by giving lessons, rather than members who pay money to use the pool. Recently, this has caused members to have to wait to use one of the two available lanes while kiddie swim lessons take place in the other half of the pool. So be warned, although the pool has four lanes, management is eager to allow two of those lanes to be used ny non-members to make money.

I’ve been a member here for 3 years. This gym is designed for someone who needs a convenient and cost-effective place to work out. Though the equipment is not brand-new(don’t expect a personal tv on your treadmill) and the space is limited(only 4 treadmills, 2 ellpiticals, and 2 bikes) Waterside Fitness is a neighborhood gym where the staff will recognize you and you’ll get to know others who attend as well. The gym has a few classes including aerobics, yoga, and strength and there’s no extra fee to attend if you’re a member. All in all, it’s just what I need on a daily basis. But if you’re looking for a cutting edge place like WSC where there are rows and rows of equipment and a full schedule of back-to-back classes, you’ll be disappointed. The membership fees are around $ 50/month and they’ll give you a guest pass for a day to check it out before you join.

I swam at this outdoor pool last week. Contrary to what the other review states, it’s *not* a 50m pool, it’s only 22m. Big difference. The indoor pool is 17m, not 25m. The outdoor pool itself was clean and basically empty(‘cept for me) but the locker room is skeevy at best. Do not go in there without shoes/flip-flops/boots/Hazmat suit. I was also disappointed that their previously advertised $ 5 guest fee is now $ 10. However, it’s certainly quiet!

I joined this gym for the pools. They have an indoor and an outdoor pool. I love to swim, and the Washington Sports Club pools are just overcrowded and dirty. I don’t think more than 2 people have been swimming laps at the same time as me since I joined. They give a discount membership of 45/month for people who only want to use the pools. You can get a coupon for a $ 20 initiation fee in the Hill rag. Only 2 blocks from the Waterfront-SEU metro.
