My go to sushi restaurant. Great sushi, great hibachi! I can always depend on the great quality of their food and great service!

I visited Edamame on a quiet Thursday night. They’re located in a strip-mallish area on the Newton-Watertown border. As a Newton Native, I welcome the addition of sushi to any New England town. I started with a cup of green tea, and It had that spinachy flavor you expect from low quality matcha. As for sushi, I tasted the tuna maki, the outstanding maki, and the inari sushi. All were fantastic. The sushi was a bit expensive, with a vegetable roll coming in around $ 4 – 5, a plain fish roll coming in around $ 5 – 6, nigiri at $ 3 – 5 for two pieces, and special rolls ranging from $ 9-$ 15. Definitely not a bargain by any means. My server was prompt, and the staff were friendly and non-invasive. Overall, my experience here was very positive, and I will probably return.

When this restaurant first opened it was great. It wasn’t long, however, before things went down hill. Several months ago, I stopped going here. Last week, I decided to give it another try. I was horribly disappointed. The grill was dirty with pieces of food left from the previous time it was used. The salad dressing was like water, and the service was horrible. I asked several times for no rice and extra vegetables. The waitress insisted I could just refuse the rice, but I wanted a bit more vegetable in place of the rice. She finally gave in and said okay, but she wrote the order up as hibachi with white rice and no extra veggies. The hibachi chef was entertaining, although I witnessed another grill where there was no interaction between the chef and customers. This restaurant seems to be cutting corners where they shouldn’t. The portions are much smaller than they use to be and the quality is awful. I called a few other places in the area to make a reservation. There was a 45min.-1 hour wait everywhere… except Edamame. We were able to walk right in and be seated as there were only 2 other people in the restaurant. That should have been the clue to RUN! It cost over $ 80 for two adults and 1 child with only 1 cocktail. Edamame is way overpriced and the food is less than average. I will never return.

Pros: This hibachi/sushi restaurant is clean and fairly modern inside. They have an abundance of parking in the shared lot in front Service was very quick! Cons: Tasted the avocado maki, cucumber maki, avocado/cucumber maki(very diverse tastes here), and sweet potato maki. All of it was fine, but nothing was stellar. Unfortunately, everything we had was $ 0.70-$ 1.20 more expensive than Fin’s, our usual go-to, with no noticeable increase in flavor or size. For reference, avocado maki is $ 4.75 here compared to $ 3.75 at Fin’s and $ 3.50 at Haru downtown. Bottom line: Nice place that should be on the short list if street parking is a struggle, but better value sushi exists!

Their hibachi is decent, with the prices on the average to higher side. For the amount of food I got, it wasn’t really that worth it. Their sushi is consistently fresh though!

Tonight my husband and I took our kids to a habatchi dinner.(Ages 18 – 22). My husband and I had been to our first habatchi in foxboro a place called Saga. It was awesome! So decided that we should bring the boys to a habatchi dinner for the holidays as a family that they would love the food and a show… well after looking around for a restaurant that had great reviews I had found this and even better we have been here before and close to home. I was excited for tonight. I even called and let them know a few days prior… one son took the night off work for it… but SO disappointed… the chef although tried to put on a decent show he was very soft spoken a lil messy… and not engaging at all… luckily it was the kids first time so they thought it was great… however as we we leaving the table next to us was getting started and how i wish he was our chef as he got their table going… this was the 2nd time we had been here… once for lunch and now for dinner my review will stay the same… food was good but service and our show not so much… my sons drink ran out so I had to give him mine since the waitress was only seen twice… to take the order and bring the drinks. but how do you say give us a good show? Isn’t that your job? Anyways we tipped well for the holiday… all 5 of us tip included was $ 190.(Oldest had an alcoholic drink) wish it was better but for $ 190 it should have been fantastic!

Firstly, this is a review only for their Hibachi Dinner and not their Sushi. The Hibachi Dinner was a great experience, slightly expensive. The soup wasn’t great;but the salad, grilled veggies, grilled chicken/shrimp and fried rice was really good. We had to wait for 10 – 15 mins for the Hibachi chef to come to our table. The chef was quite funny and my son found the whole experience really entertaining! :)

We tried the hibachi with calamari/chicken which was nice and avocado maki roll. Would probably get the hibachi with non fried rice to lessen the salt load. Nice ambience. Modern very clean place. Lots of parking in this shared parking lot which is bonus.

Our go-to lunch spot for myself and my coworkers. We try going there at least a couple times per month. Eda Mame is in the same plaza as our office, the service is typically fast, the prices are decent, and the serving sizes seem appropriate for the price. Since this restaurant is in a plaza, parking spaces are plentiful(though I always just walk there from work so I don’t move my car). I’ve never had a bad experience here, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a neat little sit down lunch place on the Newton/Watertown line.

The sushi is great, as are the appetizers. Delivery, however, can be spotty. We placed a delivery order at 6:15 on Thursday, and it didn’t arrive until almost 7:45.

Food deserves 4 stars but service is lacking. A good place to eat if you don’t mind waiting. Hibachi dinner is the main attraction.

Stopped in for lunch and was quite impressed. The service was excellent and the lunch prices were not bad at all considering. The sushi and sashimi lunch combo was presented well and had a good variety. I will be back when visiting the area.

I work at a small business in the area, and also week we decided to order from here. The menu is HUGE and very well priced for the portions you get I was the only one that ordered the sushi lunch combo. I got 3 rolls and a big miso soup for $ 12. I ordered the Philly roll, spicy tuna roll and California roll. My coworkers went and picked our orders up. There were some mess ups on their items(missing rice on 2 plates) but my order came out fine and delicious. I also got a side of spicy mayo(they do charge extra for it) All my rolls were fit nicely in a plastic container and were presented well. Even mix of rice and fillings, and the rolls held up and were very yummy! My coworkers enjoyed their meals(even with the missing rice) but they all commented on my order, saying they should have got I what I did. It is a bit far from our work, but I do occasionally go to that area of town. I will definitely order from here again.

Honestly, I’m the worst treasure hunter you’d ever meet. I’m about as lucky as a flopping fish at the seafood market, so you’d understand how ecstatic I felt when I came across this hidden gem just MINUTES away from my home in the middle of nowhere Waltham. Edamame is safely tucked away in this tiny plaza(can you even call it that?) which is mainly dominated by a gigantic Stop and Shop supermarket. There’s also a very small Papa Ginos and a Jenny Craig, and at the other end of the plaza in it’s tiny corner, there’s Edamane, a Japanese Hibachi and Sushi joint, emblazoned with it’s brightly yellow storefront. I’ve literally passed by this plaza hundreds of times, but have only noticed the Stop and Shop. Thank you, blessedly geniuses Jeremy Stoppelman and Russel Simmons, for creating Unilocal, otherwise this would have continue to fly far under my radar. Upon entrance after parking in it’s shared but extremely ample parking lot, the slightly unappealing area transforms into a contemporary japanese venue. To the left, you’ll see the nicely spaced hibachi area. To the right, a generously sized sushi bar with two chefs behind, working their slicing magic. Directly in front, a beautiful bar filled with liquor. But lastly, near the host desk, is a small army of RAMUNESODA(Japanese soda pop). That, my friends, is as legit as you can get. Throw some sumo wrestlers in the middle of the restaurant, and you could have possibly entered a fabric in time and space and landed right in Japan. As for food, since we were moderately impressed with the décor, decided to go all in with the $ 50 Edamane Love Platter. That, my friends, consists of a whopping 18 pieces of sashimi, 12 pieces of nigri, and two rolls(Dragon and Rainbow). As a bonus, you’ll get two bowls of salad with Japanese dressing and two bowls of miso soup. Note the latter bowls were nothing noteworthy, but were easily eclipsed by the quality and quantity of the platter. The pieces of sashimi were enormous(maybe even a little TOO big), and the quality extremely solid. The sushi turned out to be better than the sashimi(a very rare occasion for me as I always go with the straight sashimi). I think this was due to two reasons — the rice was tasty with a splash of vinegar and at the right temperature, and the fish was perfectly cut(not too thick, but large, curving all the way around the rice). The sashimi, while large and also fresh, had a slight chill to it(due to the thickness) that took away from the otherwise amazing experience. This caused, for example the salmon sashimi, to loose some of it’s creamier texture and taste, hence the 4 hotly debated stars despite this raving review. In addition, although there was nothing wrong with the service, it didn’t stand out either — very typical all-business-no-nonsense-gimme-your-cash-for-food asian restaurant service is what you’ll get here. In all cases, everything tasted amazing and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of what we received. This is definitely the best sushi place within 10 – 15 minutes from me(although my number one spot, Daikanyama in Lexington, would be worth the extra 5 minute drive). However, I definitely look forward to coming back, and trying out the Hibachi!

This place is always a treat. I first went to this restaurant for the Hibachi, which is always fun, entertaining, and delicious. The chef’s there are great and the dinner is more than satisfying. Great for groups. Now that I am more of a regular I frequent here for the sushi, specifically the makimono(rolled sushi). I’m an amatuer but I really enjoy it. I don’t venture far from tuna but there is literally something for every sushi fan on the menu. My favorites are the Spicy-Crunchy Tuna and the Sweet Potato roll.

Friday night was very busy. It took a few minutes for someone to greet me. Eventually I had to call attention to someone that asked if I can seat myself at an empty table, which they said they needed to clean. It took another 10 minutes for someone to see me waiting and come by and take my order. It was very busy, but it was still aggravating. Had fried oysters which was good and spicy tuna sandwich roll(forgot the actual name). It didn’t taste like the usual spicy tuna that I’ve had. It wasn’t bad, but it didn’t taste like raw fish. Price is reasonable but very busy. Hard to get attention of waiters.

If it weren’t for a voucher, I would never had known that Edamame existed. Edamame is located in the strip mall off Route 16 that houses both Stop & Shop and a CVS. It is the furthest left business on the strip where the yellow awning ends.(side note: I spotted Simply Circus on a building around the corner from Edamame.) When we first entered, we were asked if we were here for Sushi or Hibachi. So it might help with your stress levels if you had a chance to scope out their menu beforehand so you have an answer for them. Me, I needed a quick tête-à-tête with their hibachi menu before opting out. We passed by the separated space housing the 3 teppanyaki stations, each consisting of two grilling surfaces where the chef may entertain and cook for up to 7 – 8 diners at a time. We were then seated at one of 5 booths for four lining the outer edge that space, so if we stood up at the right time, we could be entertained along with the teppanyaki diners. After mulling over the menu offerings, we elected to share a hodgepodge of items. The timing of their delivery was perfect for me since I like to eat some of this and a little of that and we didn’t empty a single plate until near the end of our meal. Japanese Pancake $ 4.95 was their version of the more ubiquitous scallion pancake. Crispy on the outside and chewy within, it won a new convert in my DC who had never had it before. Fried Oyster $ 6.50(looks like they raised the price — it was marked $ 5.95 on the menu they presented us, but on the bill it showed up as $ 6.50) arrived 6 orbs crispy coated with panko crumbs and soft within. I requested the Outstanding Roll $ 12.95(shrimp tempura & cucumber inside topped with eel & avocado served with home made spicy eel sauce) as non-spicy, which happily they were able to do, and greedily ate more than my fair share — but with permission, of course! Seafood Yaki Udon $ 14.95(sauteed udon with crabmeat, shrimp, scallop & vegetable) was served with a generous count of 4 scallop, 5 shrimp, amidst saucy thick slippery udon noodles and julienned and chopped vegetables. I liked that there were asparagus among the more mundane veggies such as onions, carrots, mushrooms and zucchini. Tasty and not overcooked, the leftovers made for a good lunch another day. The bill was brought out, but we were interested in a little something sweet. Since their Ice Cream Tempura $ 4.95 was just vanilla, we instead opted for the Fried Cheesecake $ 4.95. Lightly crisp batter encasing a still cold slice of dense cheesecake — yum! On the whole, it was quite a satisfactory meal. The other half of Edamame’s footprint consisted of two bars — one the liquor sort, the other the sushi chef variety. Solo diners and pairs could enjoy their meals quite comfortably there, as well as at a few smaller tables by the window. Conversations from our neighboring booths were too clearly heard. But service was good and the nearby parking was pretty easy. Changing table spotted in the handicap stall in the ladies room, and a child’s high chair in the dining room.

Was finally able to try this place and I’m glad that I did. Who would have thought that the little restaurant attached to a supermarket would be such a gem. We came here on a Thursday night and the place was pretty packed. The aura of the restaurant was friendly and modern. I wasn’t expecting it to be so nice inside. As for the food, we ordered the beef yaki udon. It came out steaming hot and fresh, which I loved. I thought the noodles were a little saucy, but still good. The presentation of the sushi was also beautiful. I couldn’t have asked for better quality. The service was also good. I’m keeping this on my list of convenient and yummy restaurants to go to in my neighborhood.

I came here with my son just out of the blue. We went to the supermarket and thought, «Hey…let’s get some food…» So we stopped by here. My son got the Nabeyaki Udon noodle soup and the spider maki roll. I got the beef teriyaki and caterpillar roll. We came in around 6, just before the big dinner crowd, so the food came out fast and the waitress was always by our side. Heck, there were two! I think they really enjoyed the company of my 5-year-old. little kid with a giant bowl of noodles and a spider roll. All the food was very good and the service was awesome. We weren’t at the habachi because I didnt’ want him goofing around the table. However, we did see other diners having a blast with the chefs. Overall, it’s a great place and I would definitely come back again.
